What makes a move in Berlin special
A move in Berlin rarely fails because of the furniture, but because of parking, the stairwell and deadlines. Old buildings without a lift and narrow streets are everyday reality in many districts – which is why planning starts early.
Step 1: enquiry and survey
After your enquiry, we survey the flat – on site or by video. We note the furniture, floor and carrying route and then give you a fixed price after a survey, depending on the scope, floor and additional services.
Step 2: apply for a parking restriction zone
In Berlin, the road traffic authority of the district office (Bezirksamt) is responsible for this; the application should be submitted approx. 2–4 weeks in advance. The signs must be up at least 72 hours beforehand. On request, we handle both.
Step 3: packing and dismantling
We deliver boxes and materials on request. You pack yourself or have us pack; our fitters dismantle wardrobes and beds. Label every box with the room and contents – it saves a lot of time unpacking at the destination.
Step 4: moving day
The team carries, secures the furniture with blankets and straps and drives to the new address. There, everything that was dismantled is reassembled. Read the meters and record the handover of your old flat.
Step 5: re-registration at the Bürgeramt
After moving in, you have 14 days to re-register at the Bürgeramt (§ 17 BMG); for this you need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) (§ 19 BMG). Questions about the process? Praktik Transport und Umzüge advises you free of charge.
