Switzerland's northernmost city: your move from Berlin to Schaffhausen

Removal company Berlin
Via Singen to the High Rhine: Berlin ↔ Schaffhausen
Border just before the destination
Schaffhausen lies north of the High Rhine and is the northernmost city in Switzerland – to the east it even borders the German exclave of Büsingen. On a move from Berlin to Schaffhausen the lorry therefore stays on German roads until shortly before the destination; the customs border only comes at Thayngen. Beste Umzug Unternehmen starts in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21); at the survey we estimate the volume, look at the stairwell and access and set the fixed price in writing for the roughly 795 kilometres.
At the border your household goods are declared as removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut): form 18.44, an inventory list and proof that you are moving your residence to Schaffhausen. We draw up the list together with you at the survey. Clearance takes place while a customs office for commercial goods is open, usually on working days; the LSVA (Swiss heavy vehicle fee) is only charged for the few kilometres on the Swiss A4. Whether a move to Schaffhausen or a return move to Berlin: liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), § 451e.

Schaffhausen price
Berlin ↔ Schaffhausen: guide price from €3,040, fixed only after the survey
Between Berlin and Schaffhausen the guide price starts at €3,040; we give you the fixed price after the survey. It applies in both directions – move to Schaffhausen and return move to Berlin – and includes customs clearance and LSVA. A call on 01625978461 is all it takes.

Via the A81 to Thayngen
To the Munot and back to Moabit – one team
We do not drive to Schaffhausen via Basel but via Nuremberg, Heilbronn and Stuttgart: the A9, the A6 to the Weinsberg interchange, then the A81 to where it ends at Gottmadingen. Switzerland only begins at the Bietingen/Thayngen crossing, and from there it is a few kilometres on the A4. Beforehand we put together the inventory list, form 18.44 and the proof of residence with you. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), drive with two drivers or stop overnight before the border, and set the fixed price in writing after the survey; liability is under the HGB.

What we commit to for Schaffhausen
For your move to Schaffhausen this means in concrete terms: a written fixed price after the survey, a complete customs list the border post can work with, and a schedule that allows for driving times, the Swiss night-time ban for lorries and the delivery hours of the pedestrian zone in the old town.
One team to the Munot
Complete declaration
Items with amounts
Arrival within the time window
Interim storage in Berlin
Permit for the old town
Part load to the High Rhine
One room, a few pieces of furniture, a piano: for small quantities to the High Rhine you can ask for a part load and pay only for the space your belongings take up in the lorry. Form 18.44 and an inventory list are still required for your consignment. Whether a trip via the A81 towards Singen is coming up, we will tell you after your enquiry.

Schaffhausen:
customs, old town, registration
Around your move to Schaffhausen we clarify in advance: the inventory list and form 18.44 for the removal goods, documents such as an employment or tenancy agreement, the parking restriction in Berlin via the district office and a parking space at your Schaffhausen address. On top of that come furniture assembly, special transport for pianos or art and a part load for small quantities. If you have no space in the meantime, you can have your belongings stored with us in Berlin. After moving in, you register with the City of Schaffhausen within the deadline set by the municipality.

On the High Rhine, but outside the EU: household goods to Schaffhausen
Since Hemmental joined in 2009, Schaffhausen has bordered 13 municipalities in the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zurich as well as in Germany. Being close does not change the fact that the move from Berlin to Schaffhausen crosses an external EU border. Your household is imported as removal goods and remains free of duty if you have used the items for six months or longer and will continue to use them on the High Rhine. For the border post you need the signed form 18.44, a list of all furniture and valuables and a tenancy agreement or similar proof of your new residence. Clearance takes place during the opening hours for commercial goods – in practice on working days.
If you move back to Berlin, Swiss export accepts a list with both addresses; German customs requires a declaration but charges no duties after at least one year of residence outside the EU (Regulation (EC) 1186/2009). For this direction, too, we set the fixed price in writing after a survey.
795 km via Nuremberg, the Weinsberg interchange and Singen
From the Berlin ring road we take the A9 to Nuremberg, then 151 km westwards on the A6 to the Weinsberg interchange. The A81 runs past Stuttgart – between Leonberg and the Stuttgart interchange it shares its route with the A8 – and on via Singen to Gottmadingen, where it ends. Via the Bietingen/Thayngen border crossing we reach the Swiss A4, which has bypassed Schaffhausen since 1996. In total around 795 km and approx. 12 h by lorry with breaks.
On German motorways lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h (§ 18 para. 5 StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel a 45-minute break is mandatory. That is too much for one driver alone: either two drivers take turns, or we stop overnight in the Hegau before the border and clear customs in the morning.
Oriel city, pedestrian zone, residents' registration
Because of its roughly 300 oriel windows, the old town is nicknamed the "Erkerstadt" (oriel city); above it stands the Munot, built on the Emmersberg between 1563 and 1585. Large parts of the centre are a pedestrian zone: deliveries are permitted there Monday to Friday from 7 pm to 11 am and at weekends from 5 pm to 9 am; for other times the city police issue special permits for a fee, and parking in the zone is never allowed. In quarters such as Breite, Buchthalen, Herblingen or Hemmental, floor and parking space matter more.
After moving in, you register within 14 days with the residents' registration office (Einwohnerkontrolle; Art. 89 Gemeindegesetz SH) – in person at the counter if you are arriving from abroad – and then with the cantonal migration office. Back in Berlin: the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks, parking restriction via the district office.
What does Schaffhausen cost? Initial guide prices
As a first orientation for your move to the High Rhine or back to Berlin, graded by flat size – only the fixed price after the survey is binding:
| Size | Guide price | Volume |
|---|---|---|
| Studio, 1 room | from €350 | 10–15 m³ |
| Flat, 2 rooms | from €590 | 20–25 m³ |
| Flat, 3 rooms | from €890 | 30–40 m³ |
| Flat, 4 rooms | from €1,290 | 45–60 m³ |
| House | after a survey | over 60 m³ |
For the 795 km to Schaffhausen a guide price from €3,040 applies, the same in both directions. LSVA, customs clearance and a second driver are listed separately in the quote; the price becomes fixed after a free survey.
What determines the Schaffhausen price
What counts most is the volume. For Schaffhausen there are also the 795 km, the LSVA on the short Swiss stretch, customs clearance and a second driver or overnight stay. Then come floor, lift and extras such as furniture assembly or a special permit for the pedestrian zone. Not many belongings? Then a part load pays off.
