Frequently asked questions about moving in Berlin Tempelhof-Schöneberg
In densely built-up streets such as around Winterfeldtplatz or Crellestraße, parking space is scarce. We therefore usually recommend an official parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone), which we apply for in good time and have signposted.
Tempelhof-Schöneberg at a glance: six neighbourhoods, one moving team from Moabit
The district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg is one of the most populous and varied districts in Berlin and brings together six neighbourhoods with very different characters. As a Berlin moving company for Tempelhof-Schöneberg, we come from Moabit and survey every address in the district before we plan. Whether you are moving within your own neighbourhood, from Schöneberg to Mariendorf or beyond the district boundaries – our team at Praktik Transport und Umzüge ensures everything runs smoothly.
Tempelhof-Schöneberg stretches from the lively neighbourhood around Nollendorfplatz in the north to the quieter, family-friendly residential areas of Lichtenrade in the south, close to the city boundary with Brandenburg. This variety also means different requirements for a move: narrow period stairwells in Schöneberg, modern new builds on the edge of Tempelhofer Feld or detached houses in Marienfelde – we are prepared for every living situation.
As a Berlin company, we offer both the classic private move and the professional company relocation. Many businesses have settled along the commercial areas on Attilastraße or around Südkreuz station, which is why office moves are often in demand here.
Our planning ranges from the narrow one-way streets around Winterfeldtplatz to the wider streets in Mariendorf and Marienfelde. We check in advance where parking restriction zones make sense, which streets are accessible for a 7.5-tonne lorry and how best to manoeuvre in busy areas such as Hauptstraße or Sachsendamm. During the survey we clarify these points for your specific address.
Neighbourhoods of Tempelhof-Schöneberg: a moving overview
For a successful move in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, knowing the individual neighbourhoods is crucial. The district is divided into six neighbourhoods, which were merged in 2001 from the formerly independent districts of Tempelhof and Schöneberg:
- Schöneberg: period buildings around Winterfeldtplatz and Hauptstraße, the Bavarian Quarter (Bayerisches Viertel) built between 1900 and 1914, Schöneberg Town Hall and the EUREF Campus at the gasometer.
- Friedenau: laid out from 1871 as a country-house colony around Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz (Carstenn figure), today mainly four- to five-storey apartment blocks with villas in between.
- Tempelhof: Tempelhofer Feld (an airport until 2008), the Neu-Tempelhof garden city with detached houses from the 1920s and period buildings on Tempelhofer Damm.
- Mariendorf: the old village centre of Alt-Mariendorf, a trotting track since 1913, a densely built-up north and a more open south along Mariendorfer Damm.
- Marienfelde: a village church from around 1220, the industrial estate on Daimlerstraße, high-rises on Waldsassener Straße and the suburban estate in the south.
- Lichtenrade: the southernmost neighbourhood on the border with Brandenburg, a village green with the Giebelpfuhl pond, many detached houses and the large estate on Barnetstraße.
Each of these neighbourhoods places its own demands on a move: in Schöneberg, narrow period hallways and limited parking dominate, while in Lichtenrade and Marienfelde there are often longer access paths but also longer journeys from the nearest furniture-packer base. For students, who often live in neighbourhoods near the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) at the Schöneberg campus, we offer a special student move designed for small budgets and flexible dates. Families moving from a period building in Schöneberg to a detached house in Lichtenrade benefit from our planning for both types of home. This is how we make sure we have the right solution for every neighbourhood in Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
Moves from period and new buildings in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, handled professionally
Tempelhof-Schöneberg combines classic Gründerzeit buildings and modern new-build projects in a small space – a challenge for which we, as a moving company in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, are well prepared. Particularly in Schöneberg and Friedenau, high stucco ceilings, narrow stairwells and often missing lifts shape the streetscape. A move from the fourth floor of a period building on Grunewaldstraße requires careful furniture packers, suitable carrying equipment and a good feel for tight turns in the stairwell.
For bulky or valuable instruments we offer piano transport, which is in demand in Schöneberg's many period flats with their often heavy grand pianos and pianos. Older residents who have lived in their period flat for a long time also rely on our considerate senior move with help with packing and unpacking when they move to a home suited to their age.
In contrast, there are the new-build projects around Tempelhofer Feld, in Marienfelde and Lichtenrade. Here we find modern lifts, wider doors and often delivery times set by the property management. Even so, scratches on freshly renovated stairwells or delicate floor coverings must be avoided – our team consistently protects floors and walls with blankets and edge guards.
A move between these two worlds, for example from a period flat in Schöneberg to a new build in Marienfelde, is not unusual. We plan such moves with enough time buffer, suitable equipment for both building types and clear arrangements on delivery and lift times. This makes the move a stress-free experience regardless of the year the property was built.
Setting up a parking restriction zone for your move in Tempelhof-Schöneberg
Anyone moving in Tempelhof-Schöneberg knows the problem: parking space is scarce, especially in Schöneberg around Bayerischer Platz, Crellestraße or Winterfeldtplatz. Without a reserved space, loading and unloading take unnecessarily long, which costs time and therefore money. For this reason, we recommend an official parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) for most moves in densely built-up neighbourhoods.
We handle the complete application to the road traffic authority of the district office for you, put up the no-parking signs in good time and take care of all the necessary permits. This applies both to the busy streets in Schöneberg and to quieter residential streets in Mariendorf or Marienfelde, where narrow access roads or roadworks can still make parking difficult.
- Reservation of a loading zone directly in front of your door
- Signs put up in good time a few days before the moving date, as set out in the order
- Avoiding conflicts with residents or illegally parked vehicles
- Shorter carrying distances and a faster move
Depending on street length, duration and location, a parking restriction zone costs between €30 and €100 per day. In busy areas such as Hauptstraße or around Schöneberg Town Hall, the upper end of this range can be realistic, while quieter streets in Lichtenrade or Marienfelde are usually cheaper. On our service page on the parking restriction zone you will find all the details on the process and the application. This is how we keep the way clear for you on moving day – no matter which neighbourhood of Tempelhof-Schöneberg you live in.
Moving costs in Tempelhof-Schöneberg: transparent prices
The cost of a move in Tempelhof-Schöneberg depends on several factors: size of the flat, floor, distance and the additional services required. As a moving company in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, we value transparent and fair prices that reflect your actual living situation – whether a period building in Friedenau or a new build in Lichtenrade.
| Service | Starting price |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €354 |
| 2-room flat | from €589 |
| 3-room flat | from €915 |
| Long-distance move (per kilometre) | from €4.10/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These guide values serve as orientation for a standard move within the district, for example from Schöneberg to Mariendorf or from Tempelhof to Marienfelde. Additional costs can arise from missing lifts in period buildings, particularly bulky furniture or extra effort for the parking restriction zone. If you only want to transport single pieces of furniture, you can save real money with our part-load transport, as the cargo space is shared with other moves.
When moving out of an old flat, a combined booking is often worthwhile too: if you want to get rid of bulky waste, old furniture or clear an entire household at the same time, you benefit from our professional clearance service. This way, the move and the flat clearance in Tempelhof-Schöneberg can be organised from a single source without having to coordinate several service providers. On request, after a short survey, we will prepare an individual, non-binding quote with all the details.
Popular moving routes to and from Tempelhof-Schöneberg
As a centrally located district, Tempelhof-Schöneberg is the starting point for many moves within Berlin. We plan every journey via the A100 city motorway, Tempelhofer Damm or Potsdamer Straße according to the current traffic situation.
- From Schöneberg to Berlin Moabit: via Potsdamer Straße and through the Tiergarten.
- From Tempelhof to Berlin Kreuzberg: via Columbiadamm and Urbanstraße.
- From Mariendorf to Berlin Prenzlauer Berg: right across the city centre to Danziger Straße.
- From Friedenau to Berlin Wedding: along Bundesallee and via the city motorway.
- From Schöneberg to Berlin Friedrichshain: via Yorckstraße and along the Landwehr Canal.
- From Marienfelde to Berlin Gesundbrunnen: via Marienfelder Allee and the A100 heading north.
- From Lichtenrade to Berlin Haselhorst: right across the city to Spandau.
- From Tempelhof to Berlin Niederschönhausen: via the city motorway heading north.
- From Schöneberg to the Berlin Hansaviertel: via Budapester Straße.
- From Tempelhof to Berlin Tiergarten: via Yorckstraße.
This advance planning helps us calculate moving times realistically and to avoid traffic jams on the city motorway or around Südkreuz station early on – for a punctual and efficient move.

How a move in Tempelhof-Schöneberg works with Praktik
A well-organised process is the basis for a stress-free move. As a moving company in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, we have developed a clearly structured process geared to local conditions in the district.
- 1. First contact and enquiry: you tell us the size of your flat, the neighbourhood and your preferred date – whether a period building in Friedenau or a new build in Marienfelde.
- 2. On-site survey: if needed, we view your flat to realistically assess the floor, lift situation and access routes.
- 3. Individual quote: you receive a transparent quote based on the size of the flat, distance and the additional services needed, such as a parking restriction zone or piano transport.
- 4. Organising the parking restriction zone: on narrow streets in Schöneberg or around Winterfeldtplatz, we take care of the signage in good time.
- 5. Packing and preparation: on request, we pack boxes, dismantle furniture and protect delicate floors and stairwells.
- 6. Moving day: our team loads punctually, transports via the fastest route – for example via Tempelhofer Damm or the city motorway – and delivers everything safely to your new home.
- 7. Assembly and follow-up: furniture assembly, connecting appliances and a final check are just as much part of it as disposing of packing material.
These seven steps have proven themselves for moves within Tempelhof-Schöneberg just as much as for long-distance moves out of the district. Through clear communication, realistic schedules and a survey in advance, we make sure that your move runs smoothly – whether with a 7.5-tonne lorry along Hauptstraße or with a small van through quiet residential streets in Lichtenrade.
Moving parking restriction in Tempelhof-Schöneberg: applying to the Roads and Green Spaces Office
For a parking restriction on moving day in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, the Roads and Green Spaces Office (Straßen- und Grünflächenamt) of the district office is your point of contact. According to service.berlin.de, the application is submitted to the road traffic authority of the district in which the parking restriction is to be set up. If you move across a district boundary, the moving-out and moving-in addresses therefore fall under different authorities.
- Application: informal; the portal does not list any special requirements.
- Fee: service.berlin.de states a minimum fee of €21.00, depending on scope and duration.
- Processing time: about four weeks according to the portal. So submit your application early, as soon as the moving date is fixed.
- Signs: the authority issues an order, but no traffic signs. These are put up by an authorised company, for example a provider of roadworks safety.
The office is located at Großbeerenstraße 2-10, Building 3, 12107 Berlin (office E.18). Phone (030) 90277-1520, email [email protected]. The website lists opening hours as Monday and Tuesday from 9 am to 12 noon. According to the website, payment on site is not provided for; clarify the payment method by phone.
You will find more about the process for the parking restriction zone and about our private move on the linked pages.
Practical tip: in your application, state the address, the desired date, the time and the required length of the zone, for example for a large lorry plus a furniture lift. A furniture lift needs additional standing space, which you should plan for from the outset.
Neighbourhoods, period buildings and registration in Tempelhof-Schöneberg
According to berlin.de, the district consists of six neighbourhoods: Schöneberg, Friedenau, Tempelhof, Mariendorf, Marienfelde and Lichtenrade. The buildings differ greatly, and that affects carrying distances and the time required.
- Friedenau: the neighbourhood began as a country-house colony. According to the district office, four- to five-storey apartment blocks have replaced the old villas almost everywhere. You should therefore clarify the floor, stairwell and carrying distance in advance. More about the neighbourhood: Moving in Friedenau.
- Lichtenrade: according to the district office, large areas of detached houses characterise the neighbourhood, and Lichtenrade-Ost and Lichtenrade-Mitte also have large estates with high-rises. Here it pays to look at the access: Moving in Lichtenrade.
Registration: according to service.berlin.de, anyone moving into a flat must register within 14 days of moving in; registration is free of charge. The landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord is required; a tenancy agreement does not replace it. The district runs three citizens' offices: Schöneberg (John-F.-Kennedy-Platz 1), Tempelhof (Tempelhofer Damm 165) and Lichtenrade (Briesingstraße 6). Appointments are available via service.berlin.de/terminvereinbarung or by calling 115. You will find all districts in the Berlin overview.
If you clear out before the move, BSR collects bulky waste for private individuals: standard fee of €100 flat rate up to 5 m³, €20 for each additional cubic metre or part thereof. According to BSR, electrical appliances and old textiles are collected free of charge. Bookings are made via the BSR form or by phone on 030 7592-4900.
