Key answers for your move anywhere in Germany
From our location in Berlin-Moabit it is around 585 km via the A9. Depending on the volume, traffic and loading time, we usually plan a full day for a complete move, and for larger households two days including an overnight stay.
From Berlin-Moabit to every federal state
Praktik Transport und Umzüge organises moves across Germany – starting from our location at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, we travel to every region of the Federal Republic, on schedule and by arrangement. Whether a private move to a new city flat or a complete company relocation with office furnishings, we plan each journey individually and use the best routes on the German motorway network.
From Berlin, our removal vans set off via the Berlin Ring (A10) in every direction: north via the A24 to Hamburg and Bremen, west via the A2 to Hanover, Bielefeld and the Ruhr area, south via the A9 to Leipzig, Nuremberg and Munich, and east via the A12 towards Frankfurt (Oder) and on to Poland. This central location makes Berlin the ideal starting point for long-distance moves throughout Germany.
One thing is clear: a move across Germany takes more than just a large lorry. It needs precise route planning, a team of the right size and transparent communication. That is exactly what we offer – from the first survey and packing to assembling the furniture at your new home. It makes no difference whether you are moving within Berlin, commuting to Brandenburg or planning a complete move to Baden-Württemberg.
We also cover special types of move nationwide: senior moves with particular consideration, student moves on a small budget and delicate jobs such as piano transport. We set the vehicle size and number of trips after the survey – from a one-room flat to a company site. This turns a complex long-distance move into a predictable, stress-free process – across Germany and with personal support from Berlin.
Long distances from Berlin: price per kilometre and guide values
A long-distance move does not have to be unpredictable. At Praktik Transport und Umzüge you receive a transparent fixed price from €4.20 per kilometre, which already includes the vehicle, staff and a basic supply of packing material. This way you know at the enquiry stage what costs to expect – without any hidden surcharges.
The per-kilometre rate is based on the actual distance between the starting point and the destination. A move from Berlin to Hamburg (around 285 km via the A24) differs considerably in price from a move to Munich (around 585 km via the A9) or to Cologne (around 575 km via the A2). Below is a sample calculation for typical long-distance routes from Berlin:
| Destination | Distance from Berlin | Guide value from €4.20/km |
|---|---|---|
| Hamburg | approx. 284 km | from €1,160 |
| Dresden | approx. 196 km | from €800 |
| Cologne | approx. 574 km | from €2,300 |
| Frankfurt am Main | approx. 545 km | from €2,180 |
| Munich | approx. 585 km | from €2,360 |
| Stuttgart | approx. 631 km | from €2,520 |
These figures are for guidance – the final price depends on the volume, the staff required and any additional services such as a parking restriction zone at the destination. For families, couples or commuters moving from Berlin to North Rhine-Westphalia or Hesse, for example, we calculate every long-distance move individually and issue a binding fixed-price quote. This keeps your move across Germany predictable, fair and free of nasty surprises on moving day.
Part-load: share cargo space, save costs
Not every move fills a whole lorry. For smaller households, individual pieces of furniture or students moving with few belongings, our part-load service is worthwhile. Your goods are combined with other transports on the same route – you only pay for the cargo space you actually use, not for an entire lorry.
This solution suits routes on which a run is already planned, such as Berlin–Leipzig, Berlin–Hamburg or Berlin–Frankfurt am Main. Connections towards Saxony, Thuringia or Rhineland-Palatinate can also be requested as a part-load; we will tell you when you enquire whether a suitable run is coming up. If you are flexible with your time window, you can often save several hundred euros this way compared with an exclusive long-distance move.
The process is just as professional as with a conventional move: your furniture is packed properly, secured against slipping and transported separately from other loads. We always transport fragile items or delicate pieces such as a piano separately – for this we recommend our piano transport.
- Ideal for a student move with limited belongings
- Can be combined with partial moves between federal states
- Cost-effective alternative to a fixed-price long-distance move
- Time window based on run planning from Berlin
Talk to us early, as part-loads depend on dates and follow our current run planning. Depending on the destination region – such as Bremen, Hamburg or the Rhine-Main area in Hesse – we can often offer free capacity at short notice and make your move across Germany particularly affordable.
From Hamburg to Baden-Württemberg: destinations and motorways
Praktik Transport und Umzüge serves not only Berlin and Brandenburg but the whole of Germany. Requests include, for example, moves to or from the following regions – we fix the approach route for each destination in advance.
- Berlin (federal state) – our home base, with moves to all districts, from Charlottenburg to Marzahn-Hellersdorf
- Brandenburg – moves to Potsdam, Cottbus or the area around Berlin along the A10 and A11
- Hamburg – long-distance moves via the A24, also as a part-load
- Bremen – connected via the A1/A27, ideal for company and private moves
- North Rhine-Westphalia – the Cologne, Düsseldorf and Ruhr conurbation, reachable via the A2
- Hesse – Frankfurt am Main and surroundings, a central hub via the A5/A66
- Rhineland-Palatinate – Mainz, Koblenz and Trier, well connected via the A61
- Baden-Württemberg – Stuttgart and the region via the A81/A8
- Saxony – Leipzig and Dresden via the A9/A13
- Thuringia – Erfurt and Jena via the A9/A4
Each of these regions has its own challenges: narrow city centres as in Frankfurt, heavy traffic in the Ruhr area or long journeys in rural parts of Thuringia. We clarify traffic conditions, parking rules and access restrictions at the destination address in advance and plan ahead accordingly.
For moves to large cities with strict parking rules, we also recommend a parking restriction zone, which must be applied for in good time from the responsible city office. This secures free loading zones right outside the front door – regardless of whether your new home is in Leipzig, Stuttgart or Cologne.
How a move across Germany works, step by step
A move across Germany works best with a clear structure. At Praktik Transport und Umzüge, every job follows a proven process that works both for short distances within Berlin and for long-distance moves right across the country.
- Enquiry & survey: In person on site or digitally by video, we realistically assess the volume and effort.
- Fixed-price quote: You receive a transparent calculation, for long-distance moves based on the per-kilometre rate from €4.20/km.
- Scheduling: We agree the moving date, including the journey via the right motorways such as the A9, A10 or A2.
- Packing: Professional packing of furniture, electronics and fragile items, including piano transport if required.
- Parking restriction zone: If needed, we arrange a loading zone in good time outside the pick-up and destination addresses.
- Transport: Secured load, route and arrival time as agreed.
- Assembly and dismantling: Furniture assembly at the destination, set up according to your wishes.
- Final cleaning/clearance: On request, we also handle the house clearance of the old flat.
Especially with long-distance moves between federal states – for example from Berlin to Saxony or from Brandenburg to North Rhine-Westphalia – realistic time planning is crucial. We factor in driving times including possible congestion on busy sections such as the Ruhrschnellweg or the Frankfurter Kreuz.
On the day itself, our team handles the entire process: from unloading and assembly to checking that everything has arrived undamaged. On request, we document the condition of the furniture before and after transport, so you always have full transparency about your move across Germany.
Services for moves to other federal states
To make your move across Germany run smoothly, we offer a comprehensive range of services that can be adapted to any moving situation – from a small one-room apartment to an entire company site.
- Private move – for flats and houses throughout Germany, from Berlin to the North Sea
- Company relocation – predictable moves of offices, practices and businesses with minimal downtime
- Part-load – a low-cost ride for your goods on existing routes
- Parking restriction zone – secured loading zones in large cities such as Hamburg, Cologne or Frankfurt
- Piano transport – transport of instruments with suitable equipment
- Senior move – sensitive support including furniture assembly and packing boxes
- Student move – quick, inexpensive moves between university cities such as Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden
- House clearance – professional clearing of cellars, attics or entire flats
All services can be combined individually. One example: when an elderly woman moves from Berlin to Thuringia, we handle not only the transport but also the complete packing, assembly at the destination and clearance of the old flat – all from a single source.
We also offer tailored concepts for companies: server moves, file logistics and furniture transport are coordinated so that business operations can resume as quickly as possible. Whether a move within Berlin, to Baden-Württemberg or to North Rhine-Westphalia – our range of services covers every requirement and makes Praktik Transport und Umzüge a dependable partner for your move across Germany.
Across the border: moves to other European countries
Many of our customers move not only within Germany but also across national borders. From our location in Berlin-Moabit, we also offer moves across Europe – it is around 106 road kilometres to the Polish border at Frankfurt (Oder), and the route continues towards Warsaw via the A12 and the Polish A2.
Moves to Austria, Switzerland, France or the Netherlands are also part of our range of services. We easily reach Austria via the A9 and A93, Switzerland via the A5 and the Benelux countries via the A2. We clarify border formalities and toll rules for these routes before the journey.
For companies with international sites, we handle complete company relocations and coordinate several legs of the journey; where necessary, we clarify customs questions with you in advance. Private individuals who, for example, relocate for work from Berlin to Vienna or from Hesse to Zurich also receive a fixed price after a survey.
- Moves to Poland, Austria, Switzerland, France and the Benelux countries
- Combination of a long-distance move within Germany and an onward journey abroad
- Part-load options on international routes too
- Advice on customs and border formalities for non-EU destinations such as Switzerland
As with a national long-distance move, pricing for moves across Europe is based on the total distance, the volume and any additional services. We prepare an individual quote for every international enquiry that lists all cost items transparently – from the per-kilometre rate to any toll charges. This makes a cross-border move just as predictable a project as a purely domestic move across Germany.
Guide prices and cost factors at a glance
Transparent costs are a central part of a fair move across Germany for us. Instead of vague estimates, Praktik Transport und Umzüge gives you clear guide values based on the size of your home, the distance and the additional services you need.
| Service | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Move of a 1-room flat | from €359 |
| Move of a 2-room flat | from €605 |
| Move of a 3-room flat | from €909 |
| Long-distance move (across Germany) | from €4.20/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These prices are guide values and are confirmed individually after a short survey – on site or digitally. Factors such as the floor, lift availability, the distance to the loading point and special items such as a piano are included in the final calculation. For piano transport, for example, we calculate separately, as it requires its own securing and more staff.
We also adapt the service package flexibly for sensitive moves, such as a senior move with particular care needs, or a tightly budgeted student move. If you also want to clear out an old flat, you can book the house clearance at the same time and save on coordination.
Our aim is to carry out every move – whether within Berlin, to Brandenburg or as a long-distance move to Bavaria – with consistent care and clear agreements. This makes your move across Germany not only affordable but also predictable and stress-free for you and your family or your business.
Parking restrictions in Germany: deadlines and fees by city
If you move within Germany, you must apply for the parking restriction from the authority in the place concerned. There is no single nationwide office; the cities set the deadline and fee themselves. The legal basis is § 45 StVO (Road Traffic Regulations). Four examples from the official city websites show the differences.
- Berlin: The application goes to the district's road traffic authority. According to service.berlin.de, the minimum fee is 21.00 euros and processing takes approx. 4 weeks.
- Wiesbaden: The city usually states a processing time of two weeks and offers online applications for moves.
- Regensburg: According to the city, the application must be submitted at least two weeks before the parking restriction begins. A parking exemption permit is also required.
- Magdeburg: For an application for traffic signs for furniture moves, the city states 14 days' notice and a fee of 16 euros. The signs must be in place 72 hours before the move.
For a long-distance move you usually need two applications: one for the moving-out address and one for the moving-in address. So plan with the longer deadline in each case and, if in doubt, ask the city.
We help coordinate both dates. You can find the city pages under Wiesbaden, Regensburg and Magdeburg. A guide to the application is available in the article Applying for a parking restriction zone.
Long-distance moves across Germany: Sunday driving ban, re-registration and planning
Two rules apply nationwide and affect every long-distance move. First, the driving ban on Sundays and public holidays: under § 30 (3) StVO, lorries with a permissible gross weight of over 7.5 t used for commercial or paid haulage of goods may not drive from midnight to 10 pm, including trailers and associated empty runs. The regulation does not mention an exception for household goods. Public holidays differ from one federal state to another; § 30 StVO also covers this. We therefore plan long-distance moves on working days and check public holidays along the route.
Second, the obligation to register: under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz), you must register with the registration office within two weeks of moving in. Deregistration is only necessary if you are not moving into a new home in Germany; it is also due within two weeks of moving out and possible at the earliest one week before moving out. So if you move within Germany, you only register at your new place of residence.
Our location is in Berlin-Moabit, Stromstraße 21. From there we start long-distance moves to all 16 federal states, for example to Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia or Thuringia. You can find more information about our services under Long-distance moves and in the long-distance move checklist.
