Important answers for your move in Saxony
Moves in the Free State of Saxony with a team from Berlin
Praktik Transport und Umzüge supports private and business customers with every move in the Free State of Saxony – from the state capital Dresden and Leipzig to the rural regions of the Vogtland and Upper Lusatia. As a removal company based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21), we plan the routes via the A13, A9, A14 and A4 in advance and calculate travel times realistically instead of giving flat-rate estimates.
Saxony is geographically and culturally diverse: dense conurbations such as Leipzig and Dresden meet the mountainous terrain of the Ore Mountains and the historic old towns along the Elbe. These differences have a direct effect on moving logistics, parking and access routes – factors we take into account in all our planning.
Our team handles both the classic private move into a new flat and complex company moves for businesses relocating within Saxony or expanding from Berlin to Saxony. Smaller transport jobs, such as individual pieces of furniture or boxes, can also be handled at low cost via our part load.
We handle moves in Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz and other Saxon cities. We ask about the typical hurdles – from narrow streets in Dresden's Neustadt to steep access roads in the Ore Mountains – before the appointment. This saves you time, nerves and ultimately money on moving day, because waiting times and detours are avoided.
Whether moving within Saxony, from Berlin to Saxony or out of Saxony to another federal state: we plan every route individually, transparently and with a fixed contact person for the entire duration of the job.
The most important cities and regions for your move in Saxony
Saxony is divided into several conurbations and districts relevant to moving, which differ greatly in population density, housing market and transport links. If you are planning a move, it helps to know the particular features of each region.
- Dresden: state capital on the Elbe, characterised by its historic Altstadt, villa quarters in Blasewitz and prefabricated estates in Prohlis – around 196 km from Berlin-Moabit via the A13.
- Leipzig: Saxony's largest city, with well-known Gründerzeit quarters such as Plagwitz and Connewitz and good connections via the A9 and A14, around 188 km from Berlin-Moabit.
- Chemnitz: industrial city at the transition to the Ore Mountains, centrally accessible via the A4 and A72.
- Zwickau: important location in western Saxony with an automotive industry and a direct connection to the A72.
- Plauen: centre of the Vogtland, shaped by its lace-making tradition and hilly surroundings.
- Freiberg: historic mining town in the Ore Mountain foothills with narrow old-town streets.
- Görlitz: Germany's easternmost city on the Neisse, known for its well-preserved Gründerzeit buildings.
Besides these cities, we also support moves in smaller municipalities in Saxon Switzerland, the Erzgebirgskreis, the district of Meißen and Upper Lusatia. In rural regions in particular, good route planning is important, as approach routes often run along winding country roads. Our dispatch team takes these regional differences into account when planning every job, so that moving day runs smoothly – whether in the city or in the rural Vogtland.
Regional features of moving in Saxony
A move in Saxony differs considerably depending on the region – knowing these features lets you estimate costs and effort more realistically. In Dresden, for example, listed older buildings in the Neustadt and the Äußere Neustadt shape the cityscape: narrow stairwells, high ceilings and limited parking often require careful planning of carrying routes through the historic buildings.
In Leipzig, Gründerzeit buildings often without lifts dominate, especially in quarters such as Plagwitz, Lindenau or Connewitz. A parking restriction zone often makes sense here, so that the removal van can be positioned right outside the entrance instead of accepting long carrying distances.
The Ore Mountains around Freiberg, Annaberg-Buchholz or Schneeberg bring steep, sometimes narrow access roads that require extra caution in wintry conditions. In the Vogtland around Plauen the terrain is hilly, while Upper Lusatia with Görlitz and Bautzen is known for its well-preserved old towns.
Another regional factor is the student cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz with their many flatshare moves at the change of semester – our student move is particularly popular here. If you are moving to a smaller or age-appropriate flat later in life, our senior move offers an option with particular consideration.
There are also climatic differences: while the Elbe valley around Dresden has milder winters, it can snow much earlier in the higher Ore Mountains – a point we always take into account when scheduling in autumn and winter.
Moving costs in Saxony: transparent prices for your move
The cost of a move in Saxony depends on several factors: flat size, distance, floor, access and any extra services needed, such as packing service or furniture assembly. As rents and flat sizes vary between Dresden, Leipzig and rural regions, the typical moving effort also differs.
The following overview of our guide prices for moves within Saxony serves as orientation:
| Type of move | Starting price |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €359 |
| 2-room flat | from €579 |
| 3-room flat | from €899 |
| Long-distance move (e.g. Berlin–Saxony) | from €4.10/km |
| Parking restriction zone | €30–100/day |
These prices are guide values and may vary depending on the individual effort – for example if items have to be carried in Dresden's older buildings without a lift or a piano transport into a narrow flat in Görlitz's Altstadt is needed. Booking a clearance before the move, for example when clearing a household in Chemnitz or Zwickau, also affects the total price.
For smaller quantities, such as individual pieces of furniture from Berlin to Leipzig or Dresden, our part load is often worthwhile, as the costs are shared proportionally between several jobs. We generally recommend a free survey on site or by video to get a binding and realistic cost calculation – with no hidden extra costs on moving day.
Especially for long-distance moves between Berlin and Saxon cities such as Dresden or Leipzig, a fixed-price quote that already includes fuel costs, tolls and staffing is worthwhile.
Long-distance and local moves in Saxony: the right service for every distance
Whether within a Saxon city or over long distances – the requirements for a local move and a long-distance move differ considerably. For a local move, for example within Dresden from the Neustadt to Blasewitz, short distances, parking management and quick furniture assembly are the priority.
For a long-distance move, on the other hand, for example from Berlin to Leipzig (around 188 km via the A9/A14) or to Dresden (around 196 km via the A13), route planning, load securing and realistic time windows play a bigger role. Moves over longer distances within Saxony, for example from Görlitz on the Polish border to Plauen in the Vogtland, also count as long-distance moves in moving terms.
- Local move: within a city or within a radius of around 50 km, e.g. Chemnitz–Freiberg (around 31 km as the crow flies).
- Long-distance move: greater distances such as Berlin–Saxony, Dresden–Görlitz or moves across state borders.
- Combination of both: for example when moving from Berlin to a small Saxon town followed by local final delivery.
The most important routes for long-distance moves to and within Saxony are the A4 (west–east axis towards Görlitz), the A14 (Magdeburg–Halle–Leipzig, joining the A4 near Nossen), the A13 (Berlin–Dresden) and the A72 (Chemnitz–Zwickau–Hof). We factor journey times, roadworks and possible congestion on these routes into the planning before every job.
Whether a local or long-distance move: our private move service adapts flexibly to the distance involved, so that you receive a transparent quote that matches the actual route.

How your move in Saxony works with Praktik
A structured process is the basis for a stress-free move – whether within Dresden or from Berlin to Saxony. Our approach is divided into clear steps that take regional conditions in Saxony into account.
- 1. First contact and needs assessment: you describe your moving situation, such as flat size, destination in Saxony and preferred date.
- 2. Survey: on site or by video survey, we check access routes, floors, parking and particular features such as narrow stairs in older buildings in Leipzig or Görlitz.
- 3. Individual quote: you receive a transparent fixed-price quote that takes all relevant factors into account, including any parking restriction zones or extra services.
- 4. Scheduling: we agree the moving date with you, also taking regional factors into account, such as the change of semester in Leipzig or weather conditions in the Ore Mountains.
- 5. Packing and preparation: on request we provide packing material and dismantle furniture so that everything runs smoothly on moving day.
- 6. The move: our team transports your belongings properly secured, whether a local move within Chemnitz or a long-distance move to Dresden.
- 7. Assembly and follow-up: furniture assembly, connecting appliances and a final check are part of the service, as is disposal of packing material.
This clear process means you always know what happens next. Especially for long-distance moves between Berlin and Saxon cities or for complex company moves, good preparation is crucial to avoid idle time and unnecessary costs. A fixed contact person accompanies you from the first enquiry to the last box in your new flat or office.
What a Berlin removal company can do in Saxony
Saxony is geographically and culturally diverse – from the Elbe metropolis of Dresden and the trade-fair city of Leipzig to the rural regions of the Ore Mountains and Upper Lusatia. Moving here requires planning that takes these regional differences into account – even if the team, as with us, travels from Berlin.
Praktik Transport und Umzüge is based in Berlin-Moabit; that is why we ask precisely about road conditions, buildings and seasonal factors at the destination before every job. Whether a move into an older building in Dresden, a new-build flat in Leipzig-Grünau or a company move in Chemnitz – we adapt our services to the situation instead of offering flat-rate standard solutions.
Our strengths include:
- Location pages with information on Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz, Zwickau, Plauen, Freiberg and Görlitz.
- Transparent fixed prices with no hidden costs.
- Flexible combination of private move, company move, part load and extra services.
- Planning for historic buildings and difficult access.
- Reliable scheduling, even for complex long-distance moves between Berlin and Saxony.
Whether you are moving within Saxony, coming from Berlin or setting up your business at a new Saxon location: we accompany your move with clear communication, fair prices and planning that suits the region. This turns your move in Saxony into a predictable process instead of a burden.
Parking bans in Saxony: Leipzig and Dresden as examples
How you secure a space for the removal van in Saxony is regulated by each city. Two examples according to the cities' websites:
- Leipzig: if space in the public road is to be closed off, you need a permit from the "Temporäre Verkehrsregelung" (temporary traffic regulation) section. Processing takes about 14 official working days, and the administrative fee starts at 32 euros. The no-stopping signs must be in place at least four days before the date. You set up the signs yourself or via a contracted company and document the parked vehicles when doing so.
- Dresden: according to the state capital, you need a permit if a removal vehicle or furniture lift is to stand in an existing no-stopping zone or in a pedestrian area. The Office for Roads and Civil Engineering (Straßen- und Tiefbauamt) is responsible. Please ask there about deadlines and fees.
Never block off the space with chairs or similar objects; the City of Leipzig only permits traffic signs under the StVO. Our guide to the parking restriction zone explains how an application generally works, and you can find our service under parking restriction zone. More about the cities can be found on the Dresden and Leipzig pages.
In Leipzig you submit the signed application by post, email or fax ([email protected], telephone 0341 115). The authority only issues the permit and does not set up any signs.
Long-distance move from Berlin to Saxony: planning and re-registration
Saxony has around four million inhabitants, is the seventh-largest federal state by population and has Dresden as its state capital. For your move there we start at our base at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; it is around 188 (Leipzig) to 309 road kilometres (Plauen) to the Saxon cities on this page.
- Date: fix your loading date in Berlin and the delivery in Saxony together, so the journey can be planned well.
- Part load: we clarify when you enquire whether a shared trip is possible.
- Survey: we discuss stairs, access and furniture at the destination in advance.
After moving in, register with the registration office within two weeks, as set out in § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz). For this you need your landlord's confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
More on cities and neighbouring states: Chemnitz moving guide, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. You can read how we plan the route under long-distance move.
Especially for moves on slopes or in hilly areas, we discuss access, turning space and carrying routes with you in advance. Note down floors, lift, bottlenecks and possible parking spaces for the lorry, so that we can plan vehicle and crew accordingly.
Request the landlord confirmation in good time. The tenancy agreement does not replace it, as Berlin and Saarbrücken, for example, emphasise on their websites.
