Fixed price after a survey

Unsere Firma travels from Berlin-Moabit for moves in Chemnitz and clarifies parking space, floor and loading time before the appointment.

Our company is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we have no branch in Chemnitz. For your move, the team drives the lorry around 266 kilometres via the A13 and A4. That is why we plan the approach and parking space in advance – in densely built-up Kaßberg just as in Rabenstein or Einsiedel.

Key answers for your move in Chemnitz

Answers on the route, costs, bulky waste with the ASR and living near TU Chemnitz – with reference to information from the ASR and the university.

From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 266 road kilometres, via the A13 to Dresden and then on the A4. With the lorry we allow a good three and a half hours including a break and build that firmly into the arrival time.

How a move in Chemnitz works – with the team travelling from Berlin

With around 247,000 inhabitants, Chemnitz is the third-largest city in Saxony and was European Capital of Culture in 2025. Whether you are moving from Berlin, from the surrounding area or within the city: Praktik Transport und Umzüge is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit and plans every move in Chemnitz individually – with the team travelling from Berlin.

The journey from Berlin runs via the A13 to Dresden and on via the A4 – around 266 road kilometres, about three and a half hours by lorry including a break, depending on traffic and roadworks. Within the city, densely built-up Kaßberg, Bahnhofstraße and the busy Straße der Nationen need careful planning of access and loading times.

Our process is clearly structured:

  • Free survey or online estimate of the moving volume
  • Individual, transparent quote with no hidden costs
  • Professional packing of household goods, furniture and fragile items
  • The team travels from Berlin and transports everything safely
  • Furniture assembly and setting up at the destination

Especially for moves into or out of Chemnitz city centre, for example around the Roter Turm, the parking situation plays an important role. We clarify during the survey whether a parking restriction zone is needed, so that on moving day loading can take place as close to the front door as possible.

Because Chemnitz, as an industrial and university city, has very different groups of residents – from students at TU Chemnitz to families in Rabenstein and senior citizens in Altchemnitz – we tailor the scope and process of every private move precisely to the living situation. That way your move in Chemnitz runs smoothly, predictably and without nasty surprises on moving day.

From Kaßberg to Morgenleite: Chemnitz residential areas compared

Chemnitz is divided into 39 districts with very different characters, which directly affects how a move is planned and carried out. Kaßberg, west of the centre, is one of the largest Gründerzeit and Art Nouveau quarters in Germany – with dense, multi-storey buildings, little parking and often limited space for large removal vans. Here we plan parking restriction zones and arrival times particularly carefully.

Sonnenberg, east of the centre, also dates from the late 19th century and is popular with students and young families. Many period buildings have no lift, so we ask about the floor, stairwell and carrying distances in detail beforehand.

In quieter, more suburban areas such as Rabenstein, Einsiedel, Adelsberg or Reichenbrand, detached and terraced houses predominate. Moves here often require larger vehicles, more boxes and frequently additional services such as a clearance of the cellar, loft or garage before the actual move.

Central areas around Schloßchemnitz, Zentrum and the Yorckgebiet are characterised by blocks of flats, office buildings and short distances to the tram and main station – ideal for smaller moves, but with limited parking. In Hilbersdorf and Furth, residential and commercial space mix, which often comes up with combined private and office moves.

Because our team travels from Berlin, we clarify access, one-way streets and the loading zone for every address in advance. Whether it is a period flat in Kaßberg, a terraced house in Grüna or a new build in Morgenleite: we plan the route, vehicle size and staff required so that your move in Chemnitz runs efficiently and without unnecessary waiting.

Moving costs in Chemnitz – transparent prices at a glance

Moving costs in Chemnitz depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, accessibility and any additional services you want. So that you can plan properly from the start, we work with clear, comprehensible price structures instead of hidden flat rates.

ServicePrice from
1-room flat€349
2-room flat€594
3-room flat€889
Long-distance move (per km)from €3.80
Parking restriction zone per day€30–100

These guide prices apply to standard moves with normal access. Surcharges arise, for example, for moves without a lift on upper floors in Kaßberg, for very long carrying distances in Rabenstein or Einsiedel, or when special transport such as piano transport is needed. Clearing cellars or lofts before the move is also calculated separately.

If you only want to transport individual pieces of furniture, part-load transport saves you real money, as the trip is shared with other moves heading towards Saxony or Berlin. For long-distance moves, for example towards Berlin, Leipzig or other federal states, we calculate transparently by the kilometre rather than as a rough lump sum.

Before every move you receive a detailed, non-binding quote in which flat size, required staff, vehicle type and additional services are listed separately. That way you know exactly what you are paying for in Chemnitz – with no surprises on moving day. On request we also prepare comparison quotes for different scopes of service, for example with or without packing service, so that you can choose the solution that suits your budget.

Parking restriction zone & parking when moving in Chemnitz

Anyone who has ever tried to park a removal van in Chemnitz city centre or in Kaßberg knows the problem: narrow streets, dense buildings and little free space. So that your move does not stall for lack of parking, we clarify with you in advance whether a parking restriction zone is needed directly in front of your door.

This is particularly relevant in the following areas:

  • Kaßberg with dense, multi-storey Gründerzeit buildings
  • The centre around Bahnhofstraße and Straße der Nationen
  • Sonnenberg with dense perimeter-block buildings
  • Yorckgebiet and Schloßchemnitz with heavily used parking

Depending on the district, duration and effort for signage, a parking restriction zone costs between 30 and 100 euros per day. Permits are issued by the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) of the City of Chemnitz; the authority sets the deadlines and fees, so the application should be made early.

A reserved area in front of the door considerably shortens carrying distances, speeds up the whole process and reduces the risk of fines caused by wrongly parked vehicles during the move. Especially for larger moves with several vehicles, such as an office move into an office building in the centre, a well-planned loading zone is crucial for a smooth process.

For moves involving special transport, such as delicate piano transport, enough space directly in front of the building is also important to minimise the risk of damage. Contact us early – ideally two to three weeks before the moving date – so that the parking restriction zone can be approved and signposted in time.

From Chemnitz into the region – and to Berlin

Chemnitz is well connected at the Chemnitz motorway interchange (A4/A72), making it a good starting point for long-distance moves throughout Germany. Via the A4 you reach Dresden to the east and Erfurt and Eisenach to the west. The A72 leads south towards Zwickau and Hof and north to the Leipzig-Süd interchange. To Berlin we drive via the A4 and A13 – around 266 road kilometres to our base in Moabit.

Typical long-distance destinations from Chemnitz include:

  • Berlin and Brandenburg via the A4 and A13
  • Leipzig via the A72 to Leipzig-Süd
  • Dresden via the A4 heading east
  • Other federal states via the national motorway network

For long-distance moves we calculate transparently from 3.80 euros per kilometre, depending on moving volume, vehicle size and the staff required. If you do not need the whole loading area, you can save considerably with part-load transport, as the trip is shared with other moves in the same direction – particularly practical on routes between Saxony and Berlin.

We also handle moves within Saxony, for example to Zwickau, Freiberg, Leipzig, Dresden, Plauen or Görlitz. We plan the route with you in advance, whether it stays within Saxony or crosses Germany. For long-distance moves we factor in stopovers, loading and unloading times and any parking restriction zones at the destination, so that the last kilometre of your move also runs smoothly.

What we handle in Chemnitz: from private moves to pianos

As a moving company from Berlin, we offer a wide range of services for Chemnitz that goes well beyond simply carrying furniture. Our aim is to take as much of the move off your hands as possible – from the first planning to the last task at your new home.

Especially in a city with such varied residential areas as Chemnitz – from the Gründerzeit period building in Kaßberg to blocks of flats in Morgenleite and the detached house in Grüna – it is important that a moving company can respond flexibly to different types of building. We therefore set the vehicle, staff and packing materials after the survey; we also clarify in advance whether a furniture lift makes sense where there is no lift.

On request we also take care of the complete set-up in the new flat, including furniture assembly, connecting lamps and aligning kitchen appliances. For customers who also want to free up space, we combine the move and clearance in one appointment, which is a practical, time-saving solution, particularly for household clearances in Chemnitz.

Office and company moves in Chemnitz

As an industrial and business location with a long tradition, Chemnitz is home to numerous medium-sized companies, start-ups and public institutions – from industrial estates on the edge of town to office buildings in the centre. An office move places quite different demands than a private flat move.

For us, an office move in Chemnitz includes, among other things:

  • Dismantling and assembling office furniture, shelving systems and server cabinets
  • Safe packing of IT equipment and sensitive documents
  • Moves outside business hours or at the weekend
  • Coordination with property management, lift service and building services
  • Labelling and marking system for quick reassembly

Especially in central locations around Zentrum, Schloßchemnitz or Hilbersdorf, good coordination of access, loading times and, where necessary, a parking restriction zone is crucial so that business is disrupted as little as possible. In advance, we draw up a detailed schedule that takes into account the moving date, contacts in each department and critical systems such as the telephone system or servers.

For companies with several locations in Saxony, we also handle inter-regional moves, for example between Chemnitz and Dresden, Leipzig or Zwickau. We plan the stages so that important work areas are up and running first, while less critical departments follow later.

The aim is always to keep lost productivity as low as possible. That is why we work with fixed contacts and clear checklists; how many helpers and which dates are needed is set out in the quote after the site visit – from a small law firm to a medium-sized manufacturing business.

Student moves in Chemnitz & a simple booking process

As a university city with TU Chemnitz, the city attracts many new students every semester who need to move quickly and cheaply into a flat share, a hall of residence or their first own flat. Popular areas for students include Sonnenberg, the Yorckgebiet and the surroundings of the TU campus sites.

For this group we offer a dedicated student move with a fixed price after a survey and dates by arrangement – ideal around the start and end of the semester, when many moves happen at the same time. Smaller moves with little furniture can also be done particularly cheaply with part-load transport.

Booking with Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:

  • A short enquiry by phone, email or contact form
  • Details of flat size, floor and preferred date
  • An individual quote that fits your budget
  • Confirmation of the date and agreement on all details
  • Carrying out the move on the agreed day

Besides students, we also support older people in Chemnitz when they change homes. With a senior move we place particular emphasis on calm, consideration and personal support, for example when moving from a detached house into a step-free flat or into assisted living.

Whether it is a student flat share on Sonnenberg, a senior move in Altchemnitz or a family move to Rabenstein: we recommend booking the moving date four to six weeks in advance if possible, especially around the start of the semester or the turn of the month. That way you secure your preferred date and we can calmly clarify all the details in advance – from the parking restriction zone to packing materials.

Bulky waste and clearance when moving in Chemnitz: what the ASR offers

Before a move, bulky waste piles up in many households. In Chemnitz, this is handled by the municipal waste disposal and street cleaning company ASR. According to the ASR, households can have household-type bulky waste collected free of charge once a year, up to 20 cubic metres per household. Larger quantities are charged according to the fee schedule.

This is how ordering works according to the ASR:

  • You order in writing with the bulky waste card or online, stating the type, quantity and pick-up address.
  • Collection usually takes place within about four weeks, Monday to Friday. The ASR notifies you of the date at least four calendar days in advance.
  • Put the items out at the kerb from 6 pm the day before, and by 6 am on the collection day at the latest.

If you are in a hurry, you can book a preferred date for a fee, no earlier than ten days after ordering. Collection from inside the flat and complete clearance are charged by working time, with six minutes counting as one work unit. The ASR does not take doors, windows or building rubble as bulky waste. Chemnitz households can also take bulky waste to the recycling centres themselves free of charge. Customer service: 0371 4095-777.

You should clarify early whether a parking restriction for the removal van is also needed; the basics are in our guide.

Studying and living in Chemnitz: TU, Studentenwerk and CVAG

Chemnitz is a university city, and moves pile up around the start of the semester. According to TU Chemnitz, the city is one of the university locations with the best value for money when it comes to rents. Places in the halls of residence are in demand; according to the TU, anyone who does not get one will find suitable flats at similar prices on the private market.

Important for planning: the halls of residence are not run by TU Chemnitz but by the Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau; other flats are let by private landlords, housing companies or cooperatives. If you take an unfurnished flat and bring only a little furniture of your own, you also keep the transport effort low.

On its flat-hunting pages, the TU also lists housing companies such as GGG, CAWG and WCW as well as common online portals.

For everyday travel, the Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG) lists on its website, among others, single tickets, day tickets, monthly tickets, the Sachsen-Ticket and the Deutschlandticket. According to CVAG, the Deutschland-Semesterticket for students at TU Chemnitz has cost 37.80 euros per month since 1 October 2026.

After moving in, the statutory two-week registration deadline applies (§ 17 Federal Registration Act, BMG). For small moves with few household goods we recommend our student move; you can read more about the city in our guide Living in Chemnitz.

Always one step ahead.
