Travelling from Berlin

Moves in Dresden's Elbe valley, planned in Berlin-Moabit

Fixed price after a survey

Unsere Firma plans moves in Dresden from Berlin-Moabit and clarifies the parking restriction, furniture lift and loading time before the appointment.

Our company is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we have no branch in Dresden. For your move, the team drives around 196 kilometres via the A13. That is why we clarify beforehand where the removal van can park – in the Äußere Neustadt just as on the Elbe slopes.

You receive the quote as a fixed price after a video survey or by arrangement. It covers the journey, floors, carrying distances and the permit that the Roads and Civil Engineering Office (Straßen- und Tiefbauamt) issues in Dresden for a parking restriction or furniture lift.

Location,
parking restriction, costs: planning a move in Dresden

Key topics around your move in Dresden
With a move in Dresden, three questions almost always come up: how does the removal van reach the address, is a parking restriction needed, and what does it cost? Here is the short version; the details are in the sections further down.

Location and access

Steep streets on the Elbe slopes in Loschwitz, period buildings in the Äußere Neustadt or blocks of flats in Prohlis – every location needs its own vehicle planning.

Parking and parking restrictions

For a parking restriction, the City of Dresden asks for an application ideally 14 days ahead and signs at least 4 days ahead.

Cost planning

Flat size, floor and additional services determine the price – an early survey provides clarity.

Questions on parking restrictions, furniture lifts and costs in Dresden

Everything important about moving in Dresden

Answers on the parking restriction, furniture lift, distances and costs for your move in Dresden – the information on deadlines and responsibilities comes from the state capital Dresden.

The Äußere Neustadt, the Altstadt and the steep slopes in Loschwitz and on Weißer Hirsch are considered demanding, as narrow streets, little parking and in places steep access make transport harder. We plan such moves with suitable vehicle sizes and, where necessary, an official parking restriction zone.

How a move works in Dresden's Elbe valley

A move in Dresden differs noticeably from a move in any other city. The Saxon state capital lies in the wide Elbe valley, is shaped by the Elbe slopes and the famous Blaues Wunder bridge, and combines Baroque old-town buildings with Gründerzeit quarters and modern new-build estates. Anyone moving here encounters narrow lanes around the Frauenkirche and Zwinger, narrow one-way streets in the Äußere Neustadt and steep, winding roads on the Elbe slopes in Loschwitz and Weißer Hirsch. That is why we clarify access, vehicle size and parking space for your moving service before the date, so that the removal van is not defeated by tight bends or a lack of parking.

Praktik Transport und Umzüge is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; for Dresden, the team travels by lorry. We therefore check traffic calming in the Innere Altstadt, cycle paths along the Elbe or roadworks around the main station in advance: after a free survey – by video or by arrangement – we prepare a transparent fixed-price quote, plan the route taking parking restrictions and delivery zones into account, and coordinate the date with property managers or neighbours. On moving day we take care of packing, dismantling, transport, assembly and, on request, disposal of old furniture.

Dresden is well connected: the A4 takes you to Chemnitz and Erfurt, the A13 heads towards Berlin (around 196 km to Moabit), and the A17 leads to Prague and the Czech Republic. We use these connections both for moves within the city and for part-load transport to other regions. For private households we offer the classic private move with full service, and for delicate items such as grand or upright pianos our piano transport. That way your move in Dresden is in one pair of hands, from planning to assembly.

From the Äußere Neustadt to Gorbitz: residential areas in Dresden

Dresden is divided into numerous districts, each with its own character, and this directly affects how a move is planned. The Äußere Neustadt, with its narrow period streets and dense buildings, often requires a parking restriction zone because parking is scarce. In Blasewitz and Striesen, Gründerzeit blocks of flats and villas dominate – here we clarify in advance whether there is a lift or whether everything has to be carried through the stairwell. The villa quarters on the Elbe slopes, such as Loschwitz and Weißer Hirsch, are marked by steep slopes and private driveways that call for skilled driving and often smaller vehicles.

On the left bank of the Elbe, Löbtau and Cotta form a lively mixed area of period buildings and new residential complexes, while Pieschen and Trachau are increasingly attracting young families. Anyone moving to prefab estates such as Prohlis or Gorbitz usually benefits from wider access roads and designated parking areas, which makes logistics easier. The Dresden-Plauen district in the south-west – not to be confused with the town of Plauen in the Vogtland – combines villa streets with dense perimeter blocks near TU Dresden.

  • Central locations: Altstadt, Neustadt, Pirnaische Vorstadt
  • Gründerzeit quarters: Blasewitz, Striesen, Seevorstadt
  • Villa areas on the Elbe slopes: Loschwitz, Weißer Hirsch, Bühlau
  • Family-friendly new-build estates: Gorbitz, Prohlis, Reick
  • Areas near the university: Südvorstadt, Dresden-Plauen

For each of these areas we set the vehicle size, parking space and access after the survey. Whether it is a period flat with a stucco ceiling in Striesen or a new build in Prohlis – our team plans the private move individually according to the conditions in your district.

Moving costs in Dresden: prices and influencing factors

Moving costs in Dresden depend on several factors: flat size, floor, whether there is a lift, the distance between the old and new address, and any additional services needed such as packing or furniture assembly. As a rule, a move within Dresden, for example from the Neustadt to Striesen, can usually be calculated more cheaply than a move beyond the city limits, as travel routes and parking times are easier to plan.

ServicePrice from
1-room flat€339
2-room flat€589
3-room flat€879
Long-distance move (per km)from €3.85
Parking restriction zone per day€30–100

These figures are guide prices for standard moves without special features. Flats with stucco ceilings and narrow stairwells in Dresden's Neustadt or steep locations in Loschwitz can increase the effort, which is why we always prepare an individual quote after a survey. Additional services such as clearance of old flats, piano transport for bulky instruments or setting up a parking restriction zone are shown transparently and not added as a lump sum.

The time of year also plays a role: during TU Dresden's semester breaks and at the turn of the month, demand for moving dates is particularly high, so booking early can save costs. If you are flexible and move during the week, you often benefit from better terms than on weekend dates. Our team will gladly prepare a free, non-binding quote tailored exactly to your living situation in Dresden – with no hidden costs and a clear description of services from the first box to the last task.

Parking restriction and parking space in the Neustadt, Altstadt and Striesen

Anyone moving in Dresden's Altstadt, the Äußere Neustadt or Gründerzeit quarters such as Striesen and Pieschen rarely finds a free space for the removal van outside the front door. A parking restriction zone keeps the space clear. In Dresden it requires a permit from the Roads and Civil Engineering Office; according to the city, private individuals and moving companies may apply. The signs are put up by the applicant or by a traffic safety company they commission.

For a parking restriction zone our price list gives 30 to 100 euros per day, depending on location and duration. In busy areas such as Königsbrücker Straße in the Neustadt or around the main station, signage is particularly advisable. In quieter residential streets, for example in Blasewitz or Gorbitz, the situation can be more relaxed – we clarify during the survey whether a zone is needed.

  • Submit the application ideally 14 days before the moving date
  • Put up the signs at least 4 days beforehand (applicant or traffic safety company)
  • State a furniture lift or inclined lift with its dimensions in the application
  • Particularly important in the Neustadt, Altstadt and Seevorstadt

Even with narrow access on the Elbe slopes or in the back courtyards of the Gründerzeit quarters, we work out with you in advance where the removal van can stand close to the flat. That keeps carrying distances short, and you are spared hunting for a space for the van on moving day. Give us the street, house number and preferred date when you enquire – and we will tell you which city deadlines you should allow for.

From Dresden to Leipzig, Görlitz, Prague or Berlin

Dresden is well connected: the A4 runs through the north-west of the city towards Görlitz as well as Chemnitz and Erfurt. From it, the A13 branches off to Berlin in the north and the A14 to Leipzig west of the city, while the A17 leads through the Ore Mountains to Prague. It is around 196 road kilometres to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit, around 113 to Leipzig and around 110 kilometres to Görlitz.

For moves within Saxony and beyond, we offer complete moving trips and cheaper part-load transport, where your household goods travel together with other consignments. This is worthwhile for a small moving volume or if the delivery day is flexible. For long-distance moves our price list gives from 3.85 euros per kilometre; the binding figure is the fixed price after a survey, depending on volume and additional services such as packing or furniture assembly.

We also plan routes between Dresden and other Saxon cities, for example to Leipzig, Chemnitz, Zwickau, Freiberg, Plauen and Görlitz. We agree driving time and loading time with you before the date.

For moves to the Czech Republic or Poland: both countries are in the EU, so there are no customs formalities for your household goods within the European customs union. Registering and deregistering at the registration office remain your responsibility; we plan the route, date and transport to the new address.

What you can add to your Dresden move

As a moving company from Berlin, we offer a wide range of services for Dresden that goes well beyond classic furniture transport. The aim is to make the whole moving process as easy as possible for you – from the first consultation to the last screw at your new home.

  • Private move – complete service for flats and houses throughout Dresden
  • Office move – moves of offices, practices and businesses with minimal downtime
  • Part-load transport – affordable transport for smaller moving volumes and long distances
  • Clearance – proper clearing of cellars, lofts and entire flats
  • Parking restriction zone – sorting out the application and signs for loading and unloading
  • Piano transport – safe transport of upright and grand pianos with our own securing
  • Senior move – sensitive support when moving to a smaller flat or care home
  • Student move – quick, affordable moves for students at Dresden's universities

We combine these services flexibly as needed: a move in the Neustadt may require a parking restriction zone, for example, while a move out of a period building in Blasewitz may also make a cellar clearance worthwhile. Combinations, such as an office move with simultaneous clearance of old office furniture, can also be brought together in one quote.

Because our team travels from Berlin, we clarify streets, courtyards and access in Dresden in advance and plan each job so that your move runs on schedule, safely and without nasty surprises. Call us or request a non-binding quote online – we will gladly advise you on the right combination of our services for your individual move in Dresden.

Office and company moves between the city centre and Klotzsche

As a location for microelectronics, the semiconductor industry and research – known as Silicon Saxony – and thanks to TU Dresden, Dresden is an important business location in Saxony. Demand for professional office moves in Dresden is correspondingly high, whether for start-ups around the university, law firms in the city centre or businesses in the Klotzsche industrial area by the airport.

An office move places different demands than a private move: IT infrastructure has to be dismantled and reassembled properly and on time, sensitive documents need secure transport, and ongoing business should be disrupted as little as possible. We therefore often plan office moves in Dresden outside peak hours or at the weekend to minimise downtime for staff and customers. We take into account access, goods lift and loading zone at the old and new locations, whether in the city centre, the Neustadt or Klotzsche.

  • Dismantling and assembling office furniture, shelving systems and reception desks
  • Safe transport of IT equipment, servers and file archives
  • Labelling system for structured reassembly at the new location
  • Scheduling outside core working hours possible
  • Combination with clearance of discarded furniture and old equipment

For smaller practices, law firms or shops in Dresden's Neustadt or Südvorstadt, we also offer tailored solutions that affect day-to-day operations as little as possible. In advance we draw up a moving plan with a timeline, responsibilities and checklists, so that every step is in place on moving day. That way the switch to new office premises in Dresden runs smoothly, predictably and with minimal risk to your business.

Student moves in Dresden and how booking works

With TU Dresden, HTW Dresden and other universities, Dresden is one of the most important university cities in Saxony. Accordingly, many students move every semester – from a hall of residence into their first own flat in the Südvorstadt, Löbtau or the Neustadt. For this group we offer a dedicated student move with affordable fixed prices, flexible dates – including at short notice around the change of semester – and a lean service without unnecessary frills.

As student moves usually involve a smaller volume but a tight time frame, we often use compact vehicles that can manoeuvre well even in the narrow streets of the Südvorstadt or Neustadt. If you only need to transport a few pieces of furniture, you can also benefit from part-load transport and save further costs.

The booking process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:

  • Get in touch by phone, email or online form
  • Free estimate of the moving volume, by video survey if needed
  • Transparent fixed-price quote including all the additional services you want
  • Confirmation of the date and clarification of parking options or parking restriction zones
  • The move carried out by our team from Berlin
  • Optional final cleaning or clearance of the old flat

For older shared flats or moves within Dresden at the start of the semester, we also recommend booking early, as demand around the start of the semester is traditionally high. Whether it is a small student move or a larger change of flat – we ensure a smooth process, clear communication and a fair price that suits a student budget.

Moving in Dresden: special permit from the Roads and Civil Engineering Office

In Dresden you need a permit if a removal vehicle or furniture lift is to stand in an existing no-parking area or in a pedestrian zone. It is also required if you want a new parking restriction set up to keep space free for the removal van, furniture lift or inclined lift. According to the state capital Dresden, private individuals and moving companies are entitled to apply.

If possible, submit the application at least 14 days before the moving date. Once processed, the no-parking signs must be put up at least 4 days beforehand by you or by a traffic safety company you commission. The signs can be hired from a traffic safety firm, which may involve additional costs.

The city issues a fee notice based on the fee regulations for road traffic measures (GebOSt); it does not state a fixed sum. Anyone using a furniture lift or inclined lift also pays a special-use fee under Dresden's special-use bylaw (Sondernutzungssatzung). The responsible unit is the traffic regulation section for works and construction sites in the Roads and Civil Engineering Office, Waisenhausstraße 14, telephone 0351 4884191, email [email protected]. It is open on Mondays from 9 am to 12 noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 5 pm.

We have summarised everything important about the parking restriction zone for you. We also recommend the Dresden moving guide and the overview of locations in Saxony.

Dresden: districts from Altstadt to Prohlis, registration and access

According to the state capital, Dresden is divided into ten urban districts (Stadtbezirke) and nine localities (Ortschaften). The districts are Altstadt, Neustadt, Pieschen, Klotzsche, Loschwitz, Blasewitz, Leuben, Prohlis, Plauen and Cotta. If you move between two districts, for example from the Neustadt to Blasewitz, you usually need a separate parking restriction for moving out and moving in, because the two addresses are on different streets and each area is applied for individually.

You handle registration matters at the citizens' offices (Bürgerbüros) of the districts. According to the city, you can deal with passport and registration matters there, among other things. Have your ID and landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) ready. Matters concerning your own district are handled by the district offices, and the district advisory councils represent local residents.

In period buildings with narrow stairwells, a furniture lift or inclined lift can be useful. Like the parking restriction, the City of Dresden treats it as requiring a permit, so you should state it in the application with its dimensions. The application form asks for the location, duration and whether a parking restriction should also be set up.

We discuss with you in advance which access suits your building. If you are new to Saxony's capital, you will find more orientation in the guide for newcomers. For planning a complete move, also read our page on the private move.

Always one step ahead.
