Your questions about moving in Görlitz
A move within Görlitz starts from 339 euros for a one-room flat, from 584 euros for a two-room flat and from 899 euros for a three-room flat. The exact price depends on the floor, accessibility and the additional services required.
The process: moving in the border town on the Neisse
A move in Görlitz involves a few special features, which we at Praktik Transport und Umzüge from Berlin clarify with you in advance. Germany's easternmost town lies directly on the Neisse, which separates the historic Altstadt from Polish Zgorzelec – a location that can be quite relevant to planning a move, for example when furniture or boxes have to be transported across the town bridge. Görlitz belongs to the district of Görlitz and is well connected via the A4 (Görlitz junction) and the B6 towards Bautzen and Dresden. It is around 110 road kilometres to Dresden via the A4, and around 220 to our base in Berlin-Moabit.
With us, a move in Görlitz always begins with a free survey or a telephone estimate, followed by a transparent fixed-price quote. We then take care of packing, furniture assembly, transport and, if needed, setting up a parking restriction zone. Especially in the listed Altstadt with its narrow lanes around Untermarkt and Peterstraße, good advance planning is crucial so that the removal van can reach the front door at all.
The town's topography also plays a role: anyone moving from a period flat without a lift in the city centre to a detached house on the outskirts of Görlitz should discuss narrow stairwells and tight access with us in advance. We plan every trip individually, taking into account roadworks and events such as the Altstadtfest on the last weekend in August. That way your move in Görlitz runs smoothly, on schedule and without unpleasant surprises – whether it is a small student move or an entire household.
Nine districts and the localities on Lake Berzdorf
Görlitz is divided into nine districts – Altstadt, Innenstadt, Nikolaivorstadt, Südstadt, Rauschwalde, Biesnitz, Weinhübel, Königshufen and Klingewalde – as well as several formerly independent localities. They differ considerably when it comes to planning a move. In the Altstadt and Nikolaivorstadt, narrow streets and tall period buildings shape the picture, some directly on the Neisse; a parking restriction zone is often useful here. In Königshufen, Rauschwalde and Weinhübel there are mainly blocks of flats built by municipal and cooperative housing companies, in Königshufen predominantly WBS 70 prefabricated buildings. Biesnitz, at the foot of the Landeskrone, has more detached homes and villas.
In the south of the town lies Lake Berzdorf, a flooded opencast mine. It borders the rural localities of Hagenwerder and Tauchritz; Deutsch Ossig, Ludwigsdorf and Kunnerwitz also belong to the town.
| District | Character | What to note when moving |
|---|---|---|
| Altstadt | Historic buildings | Narrow streets, parking restriction often needed |
| Königshufen | WBS 70 prefab buildings | Clarify lift and access in advance |
| Biesnitz | Detached homes, villas | Quiet streets, hillside location |
| Rauschwalde | Blocks of flats in the west | Usually good access |
| Hagenwerder | Rural, on Lake Berzdorf | Longer approach |
Whether a private move in the Altstadt or a house move to one of the localities – we set the vehicle size and team after the survey.
Moving costs in Görlitz: transparent prices at a glance
Moving costs in Görlitz depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, accessibility and the additional services required, such as packing or furniture assembly. As many period buildings in Görlitz city centre have neither a lift nor convenient access, we calculate each move individually and give you a binding fixed-price quote in advance with no hidden costs.
| Flat size | Price from | Typical services |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €339 | Loading and unloading, transport, basic assembly |
| 2-room flat | from €584 | Plus packing materials, furniture protection |
| 3-room flat | from €899 | Full service incl. kitchen, electrical fitting |
| Long-distance move | from €4.25/km | Routes across Germany from Görlitz |
The biggest cost factors in Görlitz are above all the access situation in the Altstadt and the need for a parking restriction zone to avoid long carrying distances. Additional services such as a clearance before moving out, piano transport or part-load transport for smaller quantities also affect the final price.
We recommend arranging a free survey appointment early, so that we can realistically assess the actual effort. That way you avoid surprises and receive a quote that fits your move in Görlitz exactly – transparent, fairly calculated and with no hidden extra costs on moving day itself.
Planning a parking restriction in Görlitz's Altstadt
In Görlitz's Altstadt, with its narrow streets around Untermarkt, Brüderstraße and Peterstraße, a free space for the removal van cannot be taken for granted. So that no other vehicle blocks the space on moving day, a parking restriction zone in Görlitz can be useful. It is only valid with the city's prior permit; you will find the application, deadline and fee in the section on parking restrictions further down.
- Permit from the City of Görlitz before the signs are put up
- Put up the signs with the lead time the city specifies
- Take events such as the Altstadtfest on the last weekend in August into account
- Coordinate with neighbours and, if applicable, the property management
- Costs set out in the quote in advance
For a parking restriction zone our price list gives 30 to 100 euros per day, depending on location, duration and effort. On busy squares such as Wilhelmsplatz or Demianiplatz, planning is more involved than in quieter residential streets in Königshufen or Biesnitz.
Clear access shortens loading time, because the path between the vehicle and the front door is not blocked by parked cars. This matters especially for pianos or large wardrobes. It is best to get in touch two to three weeks before the date, so there is enough time for the application and signs. Give us the street, house number and floor at both addresses; if one of them is in Zgorzelec, we also clarify the parking space there with you in advance.
From Görlitz to Dresden, Leipzig or Berlin
Görlitz lies on the eastern edge of Saxony. The A4 Erfurt–Dresden–Görlitz runs through the north of the town and continues beyond the Neisse as the Polish A4 towards Wrocław; the B6 leads to Bautzen. For a move from Görlitz, the route runs via the A4 to Dresden and on to Chemnitz and Leipzig. Zgorzelec is just a few minutes away across the town bridge.
| Destination | Road kilometres from Görlitz |
|---|---|
| Dresden | approx. 110 km |
| Freiberg | approx. 155 km |
| Chemnitz | approx. 180 km |
| Leipzig | approx. 215 km |
| Zwickau | approx. 215 km |
| Plauen | approx. 250 km |
| Berlin-Moabit | approx. 220 km |
For long-distance moves our price list gives from 4.25 euros per kilometre, depending on moving volume, vehicle and stopovers; the binding figure is the fixed price after a survey. If you only want to transport a few pieces of furniture, you save with part-load transport, where the loading space is shared with other jobs.
For moves to Poland or the Czech Republic: both countries are in the EU, so there are no customs formalities for your household goods. Registering and deregistering, however, are still required. As our team travels from Berlin, we agree the date and loading time with some lead time.
Services from packing to piano transport in Görlitz
As a moving company from Berlin, we offer a comprehensive range of services for Görlitz that goes well beyond transport alone. The aim is to make the whole moving process as easy as possible for you – from the first planning to the last box.
- Private move for flats and houses throughout Görlitz and the surrounding area
- Office move for offices, practices and businesses
- Senior move with particular attention to accessibility
- Student move for flat-share rooms and small flats
- Clearance of household dissolutions and estates
- Piano transport for upright and grand pianos
- Part-load transport for smaller quantities
- Parking restriction zone for city-centre locations
Especially in Görlitz's Altstadt, with its partly listed stairwells, we clarify narrow corridors, spiral staircases and historic door frames before the date, so that movers and carrying routes fit. In the blocks of flats in Königshufen or Rauschwalde, access is usually easier; we ask in advance whether there is a lift.
On request we also take care of proper dismantling and assembly of furniture, installing kitchens and packing fragile items such as crockery, pictures or electronics. We check one-way streets, roadworks and dates such as the Altstadtfest before your moving day, because our team travels from Berlin – so your move runs smoothly, whichever district it takes place in.
Office moves between the Altstadt, Königshufen and Hagenwerder
Görlitz is known not only for its historic Altstadt but also as an important business location in eastern Saxony – with companies from rail vehicle construction, energy technology and numerous medium-sized businesses, for example on the industrial estate between Königshufen and the A4 or on the former power station site in Hagenwerder. An office move in Görlitz therefore needs particularly careful planning, so that operations are affected as little as possible.
We handle the complete office move of offices, practices and workshops – including dismantling and assembling office furniture, moving IT infrastructure, file storage and labelling systems for quick setting up at the new location. We prefer to work outside core working hours or at the weekend to minimise downtime for your company.
- Move planning including a schedule and floor plan
- Proper transport of servers, files and technical equipment
- Labelling system for boxes and furniture by department
- Setting up parking restriction zones for city-centre locations
- Optional clearance of old office space after moving out
We also plan offices, practices and start-ups around the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, with its campus in the town, with the same care. For businesses that also want to relocate individual pieces of furniture or machine parts, we offer flexible part-load transport. On request, after the move we also take care of the proper clearance of the old premises, so that the handover to the landlord is straightforward. That way we make your office move in Görlitz efficient, discreet and on schedule.
Student moves in Görlitz: process and easy booking
With the campus of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the middle of the town, the student move in Görlitz is a regular part of our services. Whether moving into a first flat-share room near the centre, switching between halls of residence or moving out after graduating – such moves usually have a manageable volume and a tight budget.
Our student move offer is deliberately uncomplicated: a quick arrangement, flexible scheduling including at weekends and a fair fixed price with no hidden costs. Many students also use our part-load transport to save costs when only a few boxes and a bed need to be moved.
- Free initial telephone estimate of the moving volume
- Flexible dates, including at short notice around the change of semester
- Transport of boxes, furniture and electrical appliances
- Optional packing service for fragile items
- Fair prices specifically for smaller moving volumes
As many student flats in Görlitz are in period buildings in the city centre, often without a lift, we realistically factor in the carrying and time required. If needed, we also clarify in good time for a student move whether a parking restriction zone is needed in front of the entrance, to avoid long carrying distances through the narrow lanes of the Altstadt.
Booking takes just a few steps: an enquiry by phone or online form, a non-binding quote, confirmation of the date and punctual completion on your preferred date. That way students lose no time organising the move and can concentrate fully on their studies and their new home in Görlitz.
Parking restriction for a move in Görlitz: fee 14 euros, signs 3 days ahead
In Görlitz you apply for parking restrictions for moves at the road traffic section, Hugo-Keller-Straße 14, room 254. According to the city, the administrative fee is 14.00 euros. You submit the application using the city's form (goe_2009_001_001 on fs.egov.sachsen.de); queries go to [email protected]. The city does not state a fixed application deadline, but the signs must be up at least 3 full days before the moving date and removed again afterwards.
- Permit first: according to the city, traffic signs are not valid without the authority's prior permit.
- Signs: they need an additional sign showing the date and time of the start and must comply with the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). Sign firms and haulage companies supply them for an extra charge.
- No home-made barriers: chairs, ropes or similar are not permitted.
- Office hours: Tuesdays 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 18:00, Thursdays 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00, Fridays 9:00 to 12:00; in urgent cases appointments outside these times are also possible.
In the Altstadt, a „UM“ no-parking zone, residents may only park within the arrow markings on the kerb, according to the city. Plan the length of the parking restriction with these spaces in mind and discuss the particular features of individual lanes with the section in advance. On request we take care of the application and signs; see parking restriction zone.
Moving from Görlitz to Zgorzelec: deregistration, zameldowanie and tolls
Zgorzelec lies on the other side of the Neisse in Poland. Two registration procedures apply to a move there. In Germany, under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (BMG), you deregister within two weeks of moving out if you are not moving into a new home in Germany. This is possible one week before moving out at the earliest.
In Poland, registration is called „zameldowanie“. According to gov.pl, EU citizens must register at the municipal office (urząd gminy) of their place of residence no later than the 30th day after moving in; this can also be done online. Registration itself is free of charge. You need a valid travel document or other identity document and proof of the accommodation, for example a tenancy agreement or land register extract. The certificate of temporary residence costs 17 złoty; the one for permanent residence is free.
Customs: according to German customs, you can bring goods for personal use from EU countries free of duty. For heavy lorries on toll roads, the Polish side refers to etoll.gov.pl, the electronic toll system for heavy goods vehicles; check how your vehicle is classified there.
