Everything important about moving in Plauen
A move within Plauen starts from €359 for a one-room flat, from €599 for two rooms and from €915 for three rooms. The exact price depends on the floor, access and the additional services you want.
Moving in Plauen: hillside locations, period buildings and the process
A move in Plauen is more than just loading boxes – thanks to its topography and building stock, the Vogtland town brings a few special features that we at Praktik Transport und Umzüge clarify with you in advance. Plauen lies in the valley and on the slopes of the Weiße Elster and is characterised by gradients, dense buildings in the Altstadt and its historic heritage as the „lace town“. Many residential buildings date from the Gründerzeit period and have narrow stairwells without a lift, which is crucial when planning a private move.
A typical move in Plauen begins with a free survey by video or by arrangement, in which we record the floor, access routes and gradients at your address. We then prepare a transparent fixed-price quote covering packing, transport, furniture assembly and, if needed, a parking restriction application. On moving day the team travels from Berlin; access and parking space in the Altstadt or in the residential areas on the edge of town have already been clarified by then.
Especially in the winter months, the location in the Central Vogtland Hill Country plays a role: gradients up to higher districts require a suitable vehicle, and in snow we allow more time. We factor this into scheduling. Our aim is to make every move in Plauen as smooth as possible – from the first enquiry to the last task when assembling furniture in the new flat.
Five areas, 39 districts: residential areas in Plauen
Plauen is divided into five urban areas – Zentrum, Nord, Ost, Süd and West – with 39 districts in total. These also include incorporated localities such as Jößnitz, Kauschwitz, Großfriesen, Neundorf, Oberlosa and Straßberg. This makes a difference for a move: in the town centre, with the Altstadt, Bahnhofsvorstadt and Neustadt, buildings are dense, parking is scarce and a parking restriction zone is often useful, while moves to the outer districts are usually simpler.
- Zentrum: Altstadt, Bahnhofsvorstadt, Neustadt – dense buildings, a parking restriction is often needed
- Nord: Haselbrunn, Preißelpöhl, Reißig and Jößnitz
- Ost: Chrieschwitz, through which the Weiße Elster flows, Reusa with Sorga, Großfriesen
- Süd: Südvorstadt, Reinsdorf, Thiergarten and Oberlosa with the Culmberg (525 m)
- West: Neundorf, Syratal and Straßberg on the Weiße Elster
Plauen lies in the Central Vogtland Hill Country, and the town is characterised by wooded hilltops; its local hill is the Kemmler. That is why many routes go uphill, which affects the choice of vehicle and carrying distances. While a smaller removal van and a no-parking sign often make sense in the town centre, in quieter residential streets on the edge of town the van can usually stand directly in front of the door. The distance between the moving-out and moving-in addresses is also factored into the calculation – a move from Haselbrunn to Preißelpöhl is shorter than one right across town. We clarify access, parking times and staffing for your district in advance.
Moving costs in Plauen: transparent prices
Moving costs in Plauen depend on several factors: flat size, floor, whether there is a lift, the distance between the old and new address, and additional services such as packing or furniture assembly. So that you can get a realistic estimate in advance, we state our guide prices transparently.
| Flat size | Price from |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | €359 |
| 2-room flat | €599 |
| 3-room flat | €915 |
These prices apply to a standard move within Plauen with normal access, for example in Neundorf or Chrieschwitz. If, on the other hand, your flat is in a period building in the town centre without a lift or with a narrow stairwell, we factor the extra effort fairly and openly into the quote. Special items such as a grand or upright piano also require special equipment – for this we offer dedicated piano transport.
If you want to sort out furniture or household goods as part of the move, you can book our clearance at the same time – this saves time and ultimately reduces the total cost, as less volume has to be transported. Additional cost factors can be a parking restriction zone, a floor surcharge from the third floor without a lift or an express date at the weekend. We discuss all these points during the free survey, so that in the end there is a binding fixed price with no hidden costs. That way you keep track of the budget for your move in Plauen at all times.
Parking restriction in Plauen town centre
In Plauen town centre, with its narrow streets, there is rarely enough space in front of the door on moving day. So that the removal van can stand close to the entrance and long carrying distances are avoided, a parking restriction zone is often useful – especially in the Altstadt, the Bahnhofsvorstadt or other densely built areas.
According to the city, the civil engineering department is responsible; the application for no-parking signs is expressly intended for private individuals as well. The city does not state deadlines or fees on its website, so ask before choosing the date. For a parking restriction zone our price list gives 30 to 100 euros per day, depending on the zone and duration; it depends among other things on how many metres of road must be kept clear.
- Submit the application to the civil engineering department early
- Only put up the signs after approval
- Useful in the town centre, but also in narrow residential streets
- Avoid fines with properly approved zones
Even in districts with wider streets, a parking restriction zone can help if a lot of furniture is being moved or several vehicles are loading at the same time. We clarify during the survey whether one is needed. For this, give us the street, house number, floor and preferred date at both addresses – and we will tell you how much lead time you should allow for the application. More on the process and costs on our parking restriction zone page.
From Plauen via the A72 to Zwickau, Chemnitz or Hof
Besides moves within the town, we also plan moves from Plauen to other cities in Saxony and throughout Germany. The A72 Hof–Chemnitz runs through the south-east of the town; at the Hochfranken interchange the A93 branches off south towards Regensburg, and you reach the A9 via the A72 at the Bayerisches Vogtland interchange. The B173 connects Plauen with Zwickau and Hof.
| Destination | Road kilometres from Plauen | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Berlin-Moabit | approx. 309 km | A72/A9 |
| Dresden | approx. 148 km | A72/A4 |
| Leipzig | approx. 150 km | A72 |
| Chemnitz | approx. 75 km | A72 |
| Zwickau | approx. 43 km | A72/B173 |
| Hof (Bavaria) | approx. 31 km | A72/B173 |
For long-distance moves our price list gives from 4.10 euros per kilometre, depending on moving volume, route and date; the binding figure is the fixed price after a survey. If you only want to transport a few pieces of furniture, you can use part-load transport, where the loading space is shared with other jobs.
Within Saxony we plan routes between Plauen and Zwickau, Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden, as well as to Freiberg or Görlitz. We agree the route, stopovers and loading time with you in advance, so that your move from Plauen is predictable and transparently calculated.

Office moves in the lace town of Plauen
Plauen has historically been strongly shaped by the textile and lace industry and is now home to numerous small and medium-sized companies, for example on the industrial estate near Neuensalz on the edge of town. An office move in Plauen places different demands than a private change of flat: it involves IT infrastructure, filing, machinery and often tight time windows, so that ongoing operations are affected as little as possible.
With an office move with Praktik Transport und Umzüge, we start with an inventory by video or by arrangement, in which we record workstations, server rooms and sensitive documents. We then draw up a moving plan, which is often carried out in stages over a weekend or in the evening hours so as not to disrupt customer traffic and production. For businesses on industrial estates with larger halls or workshops, we also plan the transport of machinery and shelving systems with suitable equipment.
- Dismantling and assembling office furniture, partition walls and reception counters
- Safe transport of IT equipment, servers and filing cabinets
- Labelling and systematic organisation for quick reassembly
- Flexible scheduling outside business hours
- Combination with clearance when closing old locations
For doctors' practices, law firms and shops in Plauen town centre, we also plan for narrow access and limited parking in advance – here we often combine the office move with a short-term parking restriction zone. The aim is to get the business up and running at the new location as quickly as possible, whether the move is within Plauen or to another Saxon city such as Zwickau or Chemnitz.
Student moves in Plauen: process and booking
With the Staatliche Studienakademie Plauen, part of the Berufsakademie Sachsen (Saxony University of Cooperative Education), the town is also a location for students who often switch between a flat-share room, a hall of residence and their first own flat. A student move is usually characterised by a smaller moving volume, tight budgets and short-notice dates – and that is exactly what we have tailored our offer in Plauen to.
For students we offer lean packages based on actual needs: often a smaller van with two helpers is enough to move rooms near the town centre or in residential complexes on the edge of town. Where the budget allows, the move can also be organised as part-load transport, which saves costs particularly for moves between places of study such as Plauen, Zwickau or Leipzig.
The booking process with us is deliberately kept simple:
- Non-binding enquiry by phone, email or online form
- Brief discussion of moving volume, floor and preferred date
- Transparent fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- Confirmation of the date and, if necessary, organisation of a parking restriction zone
- The move carried out, including assembly and dismantling by arrangement
Especially at the start and end of the semester in Plauen, short-notice dates are in demand, which is why we recommend booking early, particularly for moves at the end of the month or at weekends. Senior citizens planning a move to a smaller flat also benefit from a similarly structured process – for this we recommend our senior move. Whether a student, young professional or family: booking a move in Plauen with us always follows the same dependable principle – clear, transparent and without surprises.
Applying for a parking restriction in Plauen: civil engineering department at Unterer Graben
For the removal van in Plauen, the parking restriction goes through the civil engineering department of the City of Plauen, which also houses the road traffic authority. The city's forms section has the application for no-parking signs and containers, which is expressly intended for private individuals as well, for example for a move. If a street has to be partly closed for the move, you can submit the application online; the forms are available via the Saxon form service.
You can reach the department on +49 3741 291-1680 or at [email protected], Stadt Plauen, Unterer Graben 1, 08523 Plauen. Opening hours according to the city: Monday 9 am–3 pm, Tuesday 9 am–6 pm, Thursday 9 am–5 pm, Friday 8 am–12 noon by appointment only; closed on Wednesdays.
The department's page does not state deadlines or fees. So ask directly before fixing the moving date. Have the street, house number, date, time and the length required for the van ready. The city administration also refers newcomers to these online applications and the department for a partial closure or a parking restriction when moving. If you also need a container, the same type of application is used. How we align our working hours with the approved period is described under parking restriction zone.
Plauen: re-registration, yellow bags and waste when moving in
According to the city, anyone moving to Plauen must register their main or secondary residence within two weeks of moving in. The passport and registration office is at Unterer Graben 1 (tel. +49 3741 291-2888). You book an appointment online. You must bring your ID card or passport and, if renting, the landlord confirmation; owners present proof of ownership. Registration is free of charge.
For everyday life, the city lists further points of contact: you get yellow recycling bags at the citizens' office. Owners register their waste collection with the waste management office in Oelsnitz. Electricity and gas are supplied by Stadtwerke Plauen; for owners, the Zweckverband Wasser und Abwasser Vogtland is responsible for water and wastewater. Town hall opening hours: Monday 9 am–3 pm, Tuesday 9 am–6 pm, Thursday 9 am–5 pm, Friday 8 am–12 noon by arrangement, closed on Wednesdays. If you have a dog, you register it with the city and pay dog tax. For children, the Kita-Ticket serves as written proof of registration. For flat hunting, the city names WBG Plauen and the AWG Wohnungsgenossenschaft among others as points of contact.
Residential areas and typical costs are presented in the guide to moving to Plauen. An overview of our service area in the Free State is on the page on moving companies in Saxony.
