Plauen is a major district town (Große Kreisstadt) and the seat of the Vogtlandkreis district, lies in the valley of the White Elster and is known for Plauen lace (Plauener Spitze), a machine-embroidered lace that has been made here since around 1880. Since 2025 Plauen has held the title of university town. Anyone coming from Berlin moves to Saxony; on the way the lorry also crosses Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

A9 to Schleiz, then the B 282: how the lorry gets to Plauen
From Stromstraße 21 to Plauen it is around 309 kilometres. Via the A100 and the AVUS the route goes onto the Berlin Ring and at the Potsdam junction onto the A9 – over the Elbe bridge near Vockerode, past the Schkeuditz interchange and beyond the Hermsdorf interchange to the Schleiz junction. There the lorry leaves the motorway and drives on the B 282 via Mühltroff, Mehltheuer and Syrau to Kauschwitz on the edge of Plauen. Removal lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO); altogether that is approx. 4 hrs lorry driving time, arithmetically below the 4.5 hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break.
On moving day we load in Berlin in the morning, secure everything against slipping and unload swiftly in Plauen; on request we assemble the furniture straight away. Haselbrunn, Reusa, Neundorf: arriving in Plauen
Plauen is divided into urban areas with their own neighbourhoods: in the north, for example, Haselbrunn, Preißelpöhl and the village of Jößnitz, in the east Chrieschwitz and Reusa, in the west Neundorf.
