The route: A2, Dortmund-Nordwest interchange, Ruhrschnellweg
From Stromstraße 21 we take the A100, AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Werder interchange, where the A2 begins. The lorry covers most of the roughly 515 kilometres on it – past Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld to the Dortmund-Nordwest interchange. Then follow a short stretch of the A45 and, from the Dortmund-West interchange, the A40, the Ruhrschnellweg, right through Bochum. According to the ADAC, the A40 between Dortmund and Essen has the most kilometres of congestion per motorway kilometre in Germany – we plan in buffers.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006): approx. 7.5 hrs of lorry time. Whether loading, driving and unloading take place in one day with two drivers or are spread over two days, we decide during the survey – likewise for the route from Bochum to Berlin.
Bochum neighbourhoods – and the return to Berlin
Bochum is divided into six districts from Mitte to Wattenscheid. Ruhr University lies in Querenburg in the Süd district; Ehrenfeld borders directly on the southern city centre, which is also home to the Schauspielhaus theatre. Weitmar belongs to the Südwest district, and Wattenscheid was a town in its own right until 1975. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive to the door in each of these neighbourhoods; we clarify access and parking beforehand and apply for a parking restriction if needed.
For a return move to Berlin it pays to start looking for a flat early and in parallel with planning the move. We set the date as soon as the tenancy agreement is signed.
