Moving in Bochum: no-parking zone two weeks ahead Mitte to Wattenscheid

A move in Bochum comes with some particularities that are typical of the Ruhr area. According to the City of Bochum, you need a permit for a no-parking zone in front of your flat in Bochum. The responsible office is the Tiefbauamt (civil engineering office), traffic regulations section. You submit the application via the online service "Issuing a permit to set up a no-parking zone" on the city's service portal. According to the city, submit it at least two weeks before the desired date.

The city grades the permit fees by duration:

• one day: 17 euros,
• two to three days: 22 euros,
• four to seven days: 38 euros,
• eight days to one month: 55 euros.

According to the city, later changes to the permit cost 11 euros. You pay the fee by bank transfer to the City of Bochum. In the application, state the street, house number, period and required length of the space, and coordinate the date with the setting up of the signs. The no-parking signs must be put up by a traffic management company you commission, and its costs are added on top.

For your move this mainly means: check early which district your new address is in, because access, parking spaces and building types can differ greatly from street to street. After moving in, according to the City of Bochum:

• Registration is required within two weeks of moving in; it is not possible before you actually move in.
• Since 1 August 2024, the city has offered registration as an online service via wohnsitzanmeldung.gov.de.
• For a visit to the Bürgerbüro you need an appointment, which you book online, in person or by phone via 115.
• You need a completed landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) and an identity document. Registration itself is free of charge.

For bulky waste before the move, USB Bochum offers a collection for households, which you book by phone or online. Allow some lead time for this. It is best to book your Bürgerbüro appointment before moving day, because registration before you actually move in is not possible.
