In Bielefeld you apply for a moving-day parking restriction to the traffic office (Amt für Verkehr), Traffic Safety and Regulations team, Technisches Rathaus, August-Bebel-Straße 92, by email to [email protected], in writing or by fax. The legal basis is § 46 StVO: there must be a special reason such as moving house, and there must be no other stopping or parking options nearby. According to the city, the processing time is 14 days; the permit is only valid for the period applied for.

The city states these fees: 16.50 euros for the first day, plus 7.50 euros per day from the 2nd to the 5th day, 115.00 euros for the 6th to the 20th day and 170.00 euros for the 21st to the 30th day. Payment is by bank transfer.

The office does not lend barrier material. The signs are lent by the city's Umweltbetrieb (Bauhof Ost, Am Wiehagen 75) on presentation of the closure permit; the application for this should be made online at least one week before the hire date. The Umweltbetrieb does not put the signs up. The signs must be in place at least four full days before the parking restriction begins. Bulky waste: The city offers standard collection online via its service portal; a BundID account is required. When booking, you choose the maximum volume: 25 euros up to 4 m³, 50 euros up to 8 m³, 75 euros up to 12 m³ and 100 euros up to 16 m³. The items must be on the pavement by 7 am on the agreed day, stacked no higher than 1.5 m. Electrical appliances and metal parts are put out separately.
