Your questions about moving in Oberhausen
In all three city districts: Alt-Oberhausen with Lirich and Styrum, Sterkrade with Buschhausen and Königshardt, and Osterfeld with Klosterhardt. We clarify the approach and parking for every address before the moving date.
Moving in Oberhausen: the process between the CentrO and the canal
Oberhausen lies at the heart of the Ruhr, directly on the border with Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr and Bottrop, and administratively belongs to the Düsseldorf administrative district (Regierungsbezirk). The city is shaped by structural change: a stronghold of the coal and steel industry has become a modern location with the CentrO shopping centre, the landmark Gasometer and the Rhine-Herne Canal as a green recreational axis. For a move, this means that cramped city-centre locations in Alt-Oberhausen meet spacious residential areas in Sterkrade or Osterfeld – each location places its own demands on vehicle size, parking and scheduling.
The connections via the A2, A3, A42 and A516 make Oberhausen a good starting point for moves within the Ruhr as well as for long-distance moves. From our location on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit, it is around 541 road kilometres, almost entirely via the A2; with the lorry we allow about eight hours including a break – an aspect that plays a role in nationwide part loads and furniture transport.
A typical process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge looks like this:
- Free survey by video or by arrangement
- Individual quote with a fixed price
- Professional packing of household goods, furniture and special items
- Travelling from Berlin and transport, with traffic on the A2 and A42 factored into the schedule
- Furniture assembly and connecting appliances in the new flat
As some streets in Alt-Oberhausen and Sterkrade are narrow or cobbled, we plan stopping areas and approach routes in advance. This way your private move in Oberhausen runs smoothly, whether it is an old flat in the city centre or a new build on the edge of town.
3 city districts: residential areas in Oberhausen
Oberhausen is divided into the three city districts of Alt-Oberhausen, Sterkrade and Osterfeld, with numerous neighbourhoods in total that present removal companies with very different challenges. Anyone moving from an old flat in Alt-Oberhausen or Lirich into a terraced house in Königshardt or Schmachtendorf will notice clear differences in parking, stairwells and approach routes.
- Alt-Oberhausen & Styrum: dense city-centre buildings, often without their own parking spaces – parking restriction zones are often worthwhile here
- Sterkrade: established residential areas with apartment buildings and good public transport links, some narrow side streets
- Osterfeld: a mix of industrial history and quiet residential streets, many semi-detached houses
- Klosterhardt & Buschhausen: popular family areas with detached houses and gardens
- Tackenberg & Lirich: close to the centre, many blocks of flats from the 1960s
- Holten & Schmachtendorf: more rural neighbourhoods in the north with larger plots
For older people who want to move from a large house in Königshardt into a smaller, low-barrier flat in the Neue Mitte, we offer a considerate senior move with support for dealing with the authorities and reducing furniture. Household clearances after an inheritance are also not uncommon in many of these neighbourhoods – here our house clearance helps quickly and discreetly.
If your new home is in a neighbouring city such as Duisburg, Essen or Gelsenkirchen, we also handle the complete move across the city boundary from a single source.
Moving costs in Oberhausen: prices and influencing factors
The moving costs in Oberhausen depend on the flat size, floor, distance and additional services such as packing or furniture assembly. As many residential buildings in Lirich, Styrum or Alt-Oberhausen have no lift, we calculate floor surcharges realistically and transparently, with no hidden costs.
| Type of move | Guide price |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €359 |
| 2-room flat | from €594 |
| 3-room flat | from €879 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €4.25/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These figures are guide values for a standard move within Oberhausen or to neighbouring cities such as Bochum or Dortmund. The final price depends on the following factors, among others:
- Living space and number of rooms
- Floor and whether there is a lift
- Distance between the old and new address
- Additional services such as piano transport or kitchen assembly
- Need for a parking restriction zone for unobstructed loading and unloading
For smaller quantities, such as just a few boxes or single pieces of furniture, a part load is often worthwhile instead of a complete move – this saves costs if the route runs via the A2 or A3 anyway. On request, we prepare a binding fixed-price quote after a free survey so that you can calculate your move in Oberhausen clearly from the start.
Parking restriction zone and parking for your move in Oberhausen
Especially in the densely built city centre around Alt-Oberhausen, in Lirich or near the Neue Mitte with the CentrO, parking is often scarce on moving days. Narrow streets, residents' parking and busy areas around the main station make loading and unloading even harder. A parking restriction zone planned in good time helps so that your removal van can stand right outside the front door.
The following must be clarified in advance:
- Application to the City of Oberhausen (see the section further below for the procedure)
- Signage with sufficient lead time – the permit states the exact time
- Coordination with residents and property managers in narrow residential areas such as Styrum or Sterkrade
- Documentation in case vehicles are still parked in the restricted area
For a parking restriction zone, our price list states 30 and 100 euros per day, depending on the length of street and duration. This investment usually pays off quickly, as long carrying distances, circling for parking and waiting times for the removal van are avoided – particularly relevant in neighbourhoods with historic buildings, where lorry access is often restricted.
For moves into commercial areas, for example near the motorway junctions on the A42 or A3, we also check the approach for larger vehicles in advance. If you are moving from Oberhausen to a neighbouring city such as Duisburg or Essen, you should check the rules of both cities, as responsibilities and deadlines differ from city to city. This way you ensure a smooth process on moving day, without any stress over traffic signs or fines.
From Oberhausen to Berlin or across NRW
With the A2, A3 and A42, Oberhausen is a good starting point for long-distance moves throughout Germany. Whether you are moving to Berlin (around 541 road kilometres, almost entirely on the A2), to the south or within the neighbouring Ruhr – we decide on the vehicle and team after the survey.
Destinations in NRW with their own location page:
- Bielefeld via the A2
- Bonn via the A3
- Düsseldorf via the A3 or A59
- Hamm via the A2/A42
- Hagen on the edge of the Sauerland
We calculate the costs of a long-distance move transparently from 4.25 euros per kilometre, graded according to moving volume and vehicle capacity. If you do not need to transport your entire household, you can also book a part load: your furniture then travels together with other consignments on a route that is already planned, which is often cheaper than a dedicated transport, especially on routes along the A2 heading east.
For long-distance moves, we also build in buffer time for roadworks and traffic jams on the Ruhr motorways. This keeps your moving date reliably plannable even on long routes, including stopovers for storage or partial deliveries if the handover dates of the old and new flat do not coincide exactly.
Services for your move in Oberhausen
Praktik Transport und Umzüge offers a comprehensive range of services in Oberhausen, which we tailor after the survey to your address between the Neue Mitte, Sterkrade and Osterfeld. From a classic flat move to the careful transport of delicate items, we cover every area.
- Private move for flats and houses of every size, including packing service
- Company move for offices, practices and commercial premises in industrial and commercial areas
- Part load for smaller quantities or single pieces of furniture on planned tours
- House clearance of cellars, lofts and entire flats, for example for household liquidations
- Parking restriction zone for smooth loading and unloading in narrow city-centre locations
- Piano transport for grand pianos, pianos and other bulky valuables
- Senior move with particularly considerate support and organisation
- Student move for small budgets and tight time windows
We clarify the particular features of your residential location in advance: narrow old stairwells in Alt-Oberhausen, multi-storey blocks of flats in Tackenberg or detached houses in Königshardt each require different vehicles, aids and schedules. That is why we use suitable equipment such as furniture lifts, pallet trucks and protective blankets depending on the property.
Combinations are also possible: a company move can, for example, be combined with a subsequent clearance of the old office space so that you can hand over the premises on time and swept clean to the landlord or next tenant – a frequent request in the commercial areas along the A42.
Office and company moves in Oberhausen: Neue Mitte and commercial areas
As a business location in the Ruhr, Oberhausen is characterised by a mix of retail around the Neue Mitte, medium-sized businesses in commercial areas and service providers in the city centre. A company move here has its own requirements: IT infrastructure, file archives and equipment must be moved in such a way that business operations are interrupted as little as possible.
Our approach to office and company moves in Oberhausen typically includes:
- A preliminary inspection of the old and new business premises, including in multi-storey office buildings in the city centre
- Drawing up a moving plan with time windows outside core working hours
- Proper dismantling and assembly of office furniture, server cabinets and filing shelves
- Labelling and inventory for a complete set-up at the new location
- Organising a parking restriction zone in front of office or shop premises with limited parking
Especially in commercial areas near the A2, A3 and A42 motorway junctions, short waiting times for lorries are important so as not to obstruct the ongoing operations of neighbouring companies – we fix these time windows in advance. For companies moving from Oberhausen to a neighbouring city such as Duisburg, Bochum or Gelsenkirchen, we also take care of the complete logistics including interim storage if the new and old leases do not dovetail seamlessly.
On request, we also offer a clearance of old office space so that it can be returned to the landlord on time – useful when the lease on the old premises ends.
Student moves in Oberhausen & booking
With universities within reach, such as the Hochschule Ruhr West in Mülheim an der Ruhr and Bottrop, students move within Oberhausen or from neighbouring cities such as Essen and Duisburg at the change of semester. For small budgets and usually modest amounts of furniture, we offer a specially tailored student move that saves time and money.
Typical of student moves in Oberhausen are tight time windows between the end of semester and the start of a tenancy, as well as shared-flat rooms in old buildings in the city centre, where narrow stairwells are common. Our team lends a hand where it is needed, without unnecessary effort for a few boxes and single pieces of furniture.
The general booking process with Praktik Transport und Umzüge is straightforward:
- Get in touch by phone, email or online form with rough details of the flat size and preferred date
- Free assessment or on-site survey, often possible by video for smaller moves
- Binding fixed-price quote, transparently broken down by service
- Confirmation of the date including planning of any parking restriction zone
- Carrying out the move on the agreed day, including dismantling and assembly
We recommend that students book early, as many dates in Oberhausen and across the Ruhr are in high demand around the change of semester. If you only want to transport single pieces of furniture, our part load is also an affordable alternative to a complete removal van.
Parking restriction for your move in Oberhausen: individual exemption permit via the service portal
In Oberhausen, the city lists parking restrictions for moves and haulage under the exemption permits of its traffic and roadworks management (Verkehrs- und Baustellenmanagement). The city's service portal has the "Antrag auf Einzelausnahmegenehmigung für Halteverbote" (application for an individual exemption permit for parking restrictions) for this. The application form is available to download; the online service requires you to log in to the portal and is marked as subject to a fee.
On costs, the service portal states two amounts: 20 euros for one week and 60 euros for more than one week. The page does not state a specific application deadline. As a guide, the nationwide service description on fimportal.de states that the application should be made at least 14 days before the start of the move and that the parking restriction should be signposted at least four days beforehand. As the Oberhausen page says nothing about this, we plan generously and recommend submitting the application as early as possible.
You can clarify open questions, for example about the signs or the exact area, via the city's contact form for this service. We then coordinate our moving date so that the vehicle and carrying team are at the address on time. You can find more on the topic on our page on the parking restriction zone and in the moving guide for Oberhausen. The page does not give a postal address for the application; the route is via the portal and contact form. Feel free to give us your address, and we will estimate how much space the removal vehicle needs.
Oberhausen: the city districts of Alt-Oberhausen, Sterkrade and Osterfeld, and free bulky waste collection
Since the merger of 1929, Oberhausen has consisted of three city districts: Alt-Oberhausen in the south, Sterkrade in the north and Osterfeld in the east. According to the city, Sterkrade includes the neighbourhoods of Alsfeld, Barmingholten, Biefang, Buschhausen, Holten, Königshardt, Schmachtendorf, Schwarze Heide, Sterkrade-Mitte, Tackenberg and Walsumermark. Osterfeld includes Eisenheim, Klosterhardt, Osterfeld-Heide, Osterfeld-Mitte, Rothebusch, Stemmersberg, Vondern and Vonderort. Depending on the location, access and carrying routes change, which we take into account in the quote.
When it comes to bulky waste, Oberhausen is particularly customer-friendly: according to the city, every private household can have it collected free of charge. The appointment is made online or by phone and is usually within 14 days. Bulky waste may be put out at the earliest at 6 pm the evening before; it is better to put it out only by 7 am on the collection day. It belongs at the edge of the pavement without obstructing pedestrians or wheelchair users. If you are in a hurry, you can use the express service: 75 euros for collection on the next working day, 55 euros for the working day after that; booking is by phone.
If you want to bring larger quantities yourself, you can drop off bulky waste free of charge at the recycling centre at Buschhausener Straße 142. For moves to neighbouring cities, see the pages on Duisburg and Essen.
