We use the right vehicle, including for bulky furniture or a piano. Why Berlin – Oberhausen: work, family, industrial history
The move from Berlin to Oberhausen often has professional reasons – a new job in the western Ruhr area between Duisburg and Essen – or family ones. Oberhausen calls itself the “cradle of Ruhr industry”: in 1758 the St. Antony ironworks, the first ironworks in the Ruhr area, started operating on what is now the city's territory. We take on the logistics from packing in Berlin over the around 541 km to setting up in Oberhausen, on request with packing service and final cleaning of the old flat.
We plan the return move from Oberhausen to Berlin in the same way, for example after studies, for a new job in the capital or to be back with family. For this direction we survey your Oberhausen flat in person or by video and prepare a separate fixed price; the liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) is the same.
The route: from the Werder junction to the Oberhausen interchange
The route between Berlin and Oberhausen is around 541 kilometres long. After the A100, the AVUS and the Berlin Ring the lorry joins the A2 at the Werder junction and stays on it to the very end: via Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld, past the Kamen interchange and through the northern Ruhr area to the Oberhausen interchange in the Sterkrade forest. Since the renumbering in 1992 the A2 begins exactly here. We drive the last 7 kilometres or so on the A3.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006): approx. 8 hrs lorry driving time. Whether loading, driving and unloading take place on one day with two drivers or are spread over two days, we decide at the survey. For the return move from Oberhausen to Berlin we drive the same route in reverse.
Arriving in Oberhausen: three city districts – and back to Berlin
Since 1975 Oberhausen has been divided into three city districts: Alt-Oberhausen, Osterfeld and Sterkrade. On top of that comes the Neue Mitte, planned at the beginning of the 1990s and today something like a fourth centre. Right on the Rhine–Herne Canal stands the 117-metre-high Gasometer, built from 1927 to 1929 and an exhibition hall since 1994. We come from Berlin and drive right up to the door in every neighbourhood; we clarify access and parking space beforehand and apply for a parking restriction if needed.
Anyone deciding on a move back to Berlin should start the flat search early; the Berlin rent index (Mietspiegel) provides current figures. We set the moving date as soon as the tenancy agreement is signed and provide interim storage if needed. That way the change between the Ruhr area and the capital works in both directions.
Costs for your move to the end of the A2
Oberhausen lies where the A2 stops – but the price depends above all on your household. Rough guide prices for Berlin → Oberhausen and for the way back to Berlin, with no hidden items:
| Your flat | Loading volume approx. | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| small, 1 room | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| medium, 2 rooms | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| family, 3 rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| large, 4 rooms | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| house | from 60 m³ | on request |
For the route itself, around 541 km, we set a guide price from €2,220. It becomes binding with the written quote after the free survey – floor, lift and extras are listed there individually.
Sterkrade, Osterfeld or Alt-Oberhausen: price factors
The decisive factor is the volume; the around 541 km are a fixed calculation. After that come the floor and lift at your new address – whether in one of the three city districts or around the Neue Mitte with CentrO and the Gasometer –, extras such as furniture assembly and a parking restriction zone. With only a few pieces of furniture, a part load lowers the price.
Services for Oberhausen: private, company, assembly
For the journey to the Emscher we put together what you need:

- Company move – practice, office or shop space
- Furniture transport – individual heavy pieces, well padded

- Move with assembly – furniture dismantled and reassembled
