Moving from Berlin to Cologne: 574 km to across the Rhine

Moving company Berlin
Your move Berlin – Cologne via the A2 and A1
Via the A2 to Cologne
For a move from Berlin to Cologne, we take on more than the transport: we dismantle your furniture in Berlin and reassemble it in Cologne, transport the piano on request and apply for the parking restriction zones at both addresses. We start at our base at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; from there it is around 574 kilometres, most of it on the A2 via Hanover and Bielefeld. We pack crockery, pictures and electronics so that they cope well with the long motorway drive. That way your move Berlin Cologne stays predictable instead of becoming an ordeal.
The fixed price is set after a free survey – in person or by video call – and it stays that way, even if traffic stalls at the Kamen interchange or on the eastern ring. Liability is governed by the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of cargo space); for antiques or art, optional additional insurance can be taken out. Around seven and a half hours of pure driving plus the mandatory break come to approx. 8.5 hrs for the lorry. We arrange the date, also for the route from Cologne to Berlin, on 01625978461.

From the Spree to the Rhine and back
We are a Berlin moving company from Moabit and drive your move right to the door in Cologne. How we plan the Berlin – Cologne route
For us, transparency means: driving time, parking restrictions and price are fixed before the first box is packed – from the survey in Berlin to the last unloaded crate in Cologne or, the other way round, in Berlin.
Reliable moving service
Careful handling
Clear communication
Structured move planning
Flexible support
Quality as standard
Shared load via the A2
A shared-flat room in Sülz, a few pieces of furniture, some boxes: for quantities like these there is the shared load. Your things travel along on a tour already planned via the A2 and A1 to the cathedral city or from Cologne to Berlin, and you pay for the space they take up. There are no fixed departure days – the date is set as soon as a tour in your direction is planned.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Cologne
A move of around 574 kilometres begins long before moving day: with giving notice in Berlin, the survey and a schedule that honestly includes driving time and the break. What matters are the parking restriction zones at both addresses, a furniture lift for high floors without a lift and securing fragile items such as a piano or art. Clearing things out beforehand reduces the volume and thus the costs. By the way: on 1 January 2008, Berlin and Cologne were among the first German cities with a low-emission zone (Umweltzone) – important if you also rent a van yourself.

Eastern ring, banks of the Rhine, way back
For media, studies or family: Berlin – Cologne
A move from Berlin to Cologne often has professional reasons: with WDR, RTL and many agencies, the cathedral city is a media hub. Others come to study at the University of Cologne or move as a family to districts such as Nippes or Ehrenfeld. We take care of the complete logistics – from packing in Berlin via the around 574 km to furniture assembly in Cologne and, on request, final cleaning of the old flat.
The return move from Cologne to Berlin is just as frequent a topic: a new job in the capital, in politics or administration, or family reasons. Many returners look again in neighbourhoods such as Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg. As a Berlin company, we know these period buildings with rear courtyards and side wings from everyday work and adapt vehicle size and schedule to your address.
The route: A2 to Kamen, A1 to Leverkusen, eastern ring
From Stromstraße 21 the route runs via the A100, AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Werder junction. There the A2 begins, on which the lorry covers most of the around 574 kilometres – past Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld to the Kamen interchange on the edge of the Ruhr area. Then comes the A1 (around 86 km) to the Leverkusen interchange and finally a short stretch of the A3, Cologne's eastern ring (Ostring), past Köln-Mülheim. Here the A3 runs on the right bank of the Rhine; however, almost two thirds of Cologne's residents live on the left bank – so for Ehrenfeld, Sülz or the Südstadt the route crosses one of Cologne's Rhine bridges.
Lorries over 3.5 t may drive no faster than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO). With the 45-minute break that is mandatory after four and a half hours of driving time (EU Regulation 561/2006), this results in approx. 8.5 hrs of lorry time. Whether loading, driving and unloading take place with two drivers on one day or are spread over two days, we decide at the survey. For the return move from Cologne to Berlin, the same planning applies in the opposite direction.
Arriving in Cologne and Berlin: districts and parking space
Cologne is divided into 9 boroughs with 86 districts. People coming from Berlin often end up in neighbourhoods such as Ehrenfeld with its creative scene, student-oriented Sülz near the university, Nippes or Deutz on the right bank with a view of the cathedral. Popular areas such as the Südstadt or Lindenthal are taken quickly, so it pays to start the flat search in parallel with planning the move. We come from Berlin and drive right to your door in Cologne – including narrow streets of period buildings, for which we apply for the parking restriction in advance.
On a return move to Berlin, a large, dynamic housing market awaits you, with neighbourhoods in high demand such as Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Neukölln. Many returners appreciate the capital's international atmosphere and cultural life. Berlin period buildings with rear courtyards and narrow stairwells are part of our everyday work – we plan the unloading with foresight accordingly.
Guide prices for Berlin – Cologne
Cologne Cathedral took 632 years to build; your quote takes considerably less time. The guide prices apply to Berlin → Cologne and to the return move to Berlin, with no hidden surcharges:
| Type of home | Approximate volume | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1 room | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2 rooms in the neighbourhood | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room period flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4 rooms and more | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| Terraced house or villa | from 60 m³ | Quote after an appointment |
For the around 574 km via the A2, A1 and A3, we set a guide price from €2,290. It becomes binding with the written quote after the free survey – whether Ehrenfeld, Nippes or Deutz.
What determines the price of your move to Cologne
The decisive factor is first of all the volume. We calculate the route of around 574 km from €4/km. If your new flat is on the left bank of the Rhine, the drive over one of the Rhine bridges is added; floor, lift, a parking restriction zone in a narrow street of period buildings and extras such as furniture assembly also count. Small households save with a shared load.

- Furniture transport – piano, display cabinet or designer piece
