Moving from Berlin to Hamm: 464 km on the A2 to the Lippe

Removal company Berlin
From Moabit to the Lippe: your move to Hamm
To the edge of the Ruhr
For the move from Berlin to Hamm, our lorry leaves Moabit (Stromstraße 21) via the A100, the AVUS and the southern Berlin Ring. From the Werder junction it stays on the A2 – past Magdeburg, Hannover and Bielefeld to the Hamm-Uentrop or Hamm exit, around 464 km in all. You receive the fixed price after the survey; as a guide price we quote from €1,880. We run the move from Hamm to Berlin with the same process, just in the opposite direction.
The driver sits at the wheel for a good six hours before the Lippe comes into view. Because lorries over 3.5 t may only drive at 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO) and a 45-minute break is mandatory after four and a half hours at the latest (EU Regulation 561/2006), we calculate approx. 7 hrs. Whether, after loading in Berlin, unloading takes place in Hamm the same evening or only the following day depends on the volume and is settled after the survey. We organise the parking restriction zones in Berlin and in Hamm, furniture assembly and storage; liability is governed by § 451e HGB.

What we pay attention to on the way to Hamm
From the Spree to the Lippe – and back
Our lorry starts at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit and drives to any address in Hamm – north of the Lippe in Heessen or Bockum-Hövel as well as south of it in Mitte, Pelkum, Herringen or Rhynern. Depending on the borough, we leave the A2 at the Hamm-Uentrop or Hamm exit. We look at the stairwell, access and parking space of both flats during the survey, after which the fixed price is set. Move
planning Berlin ↔ Hamm
For the move Berlin Hamm, we clarify in advance: where does the lorry stop at both addresses, and who applies for the parking restriction zone? How are the household goods secured for approx. 7 hrs of driving including a break? Is a part load enough, or is a lorry of your own needed? And what happens if the flat in Hamm or Berlin is not yet free? We record the answers during the survey – from packing to assembly.

A2, boroughs and the way back
Why people move to Hamm – and back to Berlin
Behind a move from Berlin to Hamm there is often a new job or a university place – for example at Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, a state university of applied sciences since 2009 with campuses in Hamm and Lippstadt. The city of around 179,000 inhabitants lies on the north-eastern edge of the Ruhr and belongs to the Arnsberg administrative region; the Lippe flows through the city from east to west, alongside the Datteln-Hamm Canal, opened in 1914. We bring your household goods from the Berlin flat to the new address, whether in Hamm-Mitte or in Bockum-Hövel.
A move from Hamm to Berlin has its own reasons: the capital's larger job market, studies or returning to family and friends. For us it is the same A2 in the opposite direction – with a parking restriction zone at the Berlin destination, furniture assembly and an arrival time that we calculate in advance with driving time and break.
464 km on one motorway: route, break and exits
From Moabit to Hamm it is around 464 kilometres. The lorry takes the A100 and the AVUS (A115) onto the southern Berlin Ring (A10) and joins the A2 at the Werder junction. After that it does not change motorway again: past Magdeburg, Hannover and Bielefeld, via Oelde and Beckum to the Hamm-Uentrop or Hamm exit – depending on the destination address.
Hamm lies between the A1 and the A2; we do not even reach the Kamener Kreuz, where the two meet. Pure driving time is a good six hours; with a speed of 80 and the mandatory break after four and a half hours of driving, we reckon with approx. 7 hrs. When unloading takes place, the same evening or the next morning, depends on the volume – and the same on the way back to Berlin.
Seven boroughs on the Lippe and the canal – or back to Berlin
Hamm is divided into seven boroughs: Mitte, Uentrop, Rhynern, Pelkum, Herringen, Bockum-Hövel and Heessen. A well-known sight is the Maximilianpark on the site of the former Maximilian colliery: for North Rhine-Westphalia's first state garden show in 1984, the Glass Elephant was built there, today a landmark of the city alongside St Paul's Church. In Uentrop stands the Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple, the largest Tamil Hindu temple in Europe. For the lorry, we check in advance how close it can get to your new door.
Anyone planning a move back to Berlin is moving to a city with a much tighter housing market – in inner-city neighbourhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg or Neukölln, a parking restriction zone is almost always part of it. We apply for it at the district office and schedule moving day around your key handover.
Guide prices for the Berlin–Hamm route
Hamm was founded in 1226 as a planned town – your price should be just as easy to plan. These guide prices apply to Berlin → Hamm and equally to the way Hamm → Berlin, with no subsequent surcharges:
| Household | Cubic metres (approx.) | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| One-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| Two-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| Three-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| Four-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| Detached house | from 60 m³ | after a survey |
For the roughly 464 km on the A2 we set a guide price from €1,880. You receive the binding price after the free survey, whether you are moving to Heessen, Uentrop or the town centre.
Floor, volume, side of the Lippe: what determines the price for Hamm
What counts most is the amount of your household goods in cubic metres. On top of that comes the distance of around 464 km, calculated from €4/km. Whether the new flat is on the ground floor or on the third floor without a lift, whether we need a parking restriction zone and whether furniture assembly is added changes the effort. For small volumes, a part load is the cheaper option.
