Moving from Berlin to Aachen (North Rhine-Westphalia) – and back

Moving company Berlin
From Moabit to Europaplatz: your move to Aachen
All the way to the western border
A move from Berlin to Aachen is one of the longest routes we drive within Germany: around 635 kilometres from Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to the border with Belgium and the Netherlands. By removal lorry that is approx. 9 h including a break, and the pure driving time is only just under the daily limit of nine hours. That is why we plan this move from the outset with two drivers or spread over two days – which option suits your volume we decide at the survey.
We then give you the fixed price in writing. Furniture assembly, packing and a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) can be added as needed; a piano or artwork is secured separately for the long journey. One contact person accompanies you from the first conversation to the last box. We come from Berlin and drive to your door in Aachen, whether in Burtscheid, Laurensberg or Brand.
A move from Aachen to Berlin works the same way: survey in Aachen, fixed price in writing, the same route via the A4, A1 and A2 in the opposite direction. Often it is RWTH graduates or professionals moving to the capital after a few years in the west. We calculate the price independently of the direction of travel; interim storage, part loads or special collection dates are included in the quote.
Our liability is governed by the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of load space), and additional cover for valuables is available on request. Our aim is a Berlin Aachen move in both directions where the date and price are fixed in advance. Call us on 01625978461 for advice with no obligation.

Why Aachen is a two-driver move
Your moving team for the A2, A1 and A4 – there and back
Around 635 km, approx. 9 h by lorry including a 45-minute break: for Aachen the pure driving time just about fits into one day, but loading in Berlin and unloading at the destination no longer do. That is why we drive this route with two drivers or spread the move over two days – the survey shows which is cheaper for you. After that the fixed price is set, and our liability for your goods is governed by the German Commercial Code (HGB). We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive to your door in Aachen – and just the same back to Berlin, whether you are moving from Haaren, Eilendorf or Richterich to the Spree.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Aachen
A move from Berlin to Aachen involves more than transport: registering your address within two weeks, parking restriction zones at both addresses and the question of whether the roughly 635 km are driven with two drivers or over two days. Then there is the shared load for small volumes, interim storage of furniture and the student move to RWTH Aachen. Anyone planning a move from Aachen to Berlin should keep an eye on the Berlin housing market early on. Our advice answers these questions before the quote.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why Berliners move to Aachen – and back again
A move from Berlin to Aachen often has to do with study or research: RWTH Aachen has been funded under the Excellence Initiative since 2007 and attracts students and skilled professionals. Then there is the location – Aachen borders Belgium and the Netherlands, and its cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. With around 264,000 inhabitants the city is much smaller than Berlin and is divided into seven districts, from Aachen-Mitte to Richterich. We organise the move on a fixed schedule so that the handover in Berlin and moving in in Aachen fit together.
A move from Aachen to Berlin often has other reasons: the end of a degree, a new job in the capital or the wish to live closer to family and friends again. Berlin's job market and start-up scene draw many former residents back. The same process applies in both directions, with a survey, a fixed price in writing and one team right up to the new door.
635 km via the A2, A1 and A4: route and driving time
From Stromstraße 21 to Aachen it is around 635 kilometres. Via the A100, AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) we head to the Werder interchange, then along the A2 past Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld to the Kamener Kreuz. There we switch to the A1 towards Cologne, at the Köln-West interchange onto the A4, which leads via the Kerpen interchange, Düren and Eschweiler to the Aachen interchange; the A544 takes us to Europaplatz. Lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 para. 5 StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving a 45-minute break is mandatory (Regulation (EC) 561/2006) – approx. 9 h on the road in total.
The driving time is therefore just under the daily limit of nine hours; with loading and unloading it becomes too much for one driver in one day. So we drive with two drivers or schedule an overnight stop and unload in Aachen on the second day. We plan the move from Aachen to Berlin the same way, via the A4, A1 and A2 in the opposite direction. That way the process is clear in advance in both directions.
Arriving in Aachen – and back in Berlin
Aachen is divided into seven districts: Aachen-Mitte with the cathedral and city centre, plus Brand, Eilendorf, Haaren, Kornelimünster/Walheim, Laurensberg and Richterich. Aachen-Mitte also includes Burtscheid, which was incorporated in 1897 and is known for its thermal springs. Flats near RWTH and in the centre are in demand, so it pays to start looking early. For the move we check in advance how the lorry can reach your new address and where it is allowed to stop.
When moving back to Berlin you can expect a tight housing market, especially in Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Neukölln. Parking space is scarce there – we apply to the district office for the parking restriction zone on your behalf. After moving in, you register in Berlin, as in Aachen, within two weeks. After their time in Aachen, many appreciate Berlin's cultural life and large job market; we accompany the change with the same team.
