Moving from Berlin to Weimar (Thuringia) – and back

To the city of the classics: moving from Berlin to Weimar
Arriving on the Ilm
A move from Berlin to Weimar covers around 283 kilometres to Thuringia: from Stromstraße 21 in Moabit the lorry takes the city ring, the AVUS and the Berlin Ring onto the A9, switches to the A4 at the Hermsdorf interchange and then heads west past Jena to the Weimar junction. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we quote a guide price from €1,060 for this; the fixed price after a survey is binding. Dismantling, packing, transport and assembly come from a single source, and liability is governed by the German Commercial Code (HGB).
We also handle the move from Weimar to Berlin – for instance after graduating from the Bauhaus-Universität or the University of Music Franz Liszt. In both directions we allow approx. 4 hrs of lorry driving time via the A4 and A9 and plan vehicle and team so that everything travels in one trip. Whether a student room or a detached house: the fixed price after the survey applies regardless of the direction of travel and the traffic on the route. We come from Berlin and drive right to the door in Weimar.

Four hours to Weimar, honestly planned
Your long-distance moving partner in both directions
We come from Berlin-Moabit and allow approx. 4 hrs of lorry driving time for the roughly 283 km – just under the 4.5 hours of driving time after which a 45-minute break becomes mandatory; with a traffic jam on the A9 or roadworks on the A4 we therefore plan it in from the outset. In Weimar we check access and the stopping place in advance, because an address in the old town has different requirements from one in Weimar-West or Schöndorf. Parking restriction zones (Halteverbotszonen) in both cities, furniture assembly and storage can be added as needed – everything is set out in the fixed price.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Bauhaus, classics, music: why people head to Weimar
With around 66,000 inhabitants, Weimar is the fourth-largest city in Thuringia and lies roughly halfway between Erfurt and Jena, its old town on a bend of the Ilm. Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites shape the city: the Bauhaus (since 1996, together with Dessau and Bernau) and "Classical Weimar" (since 1998). With the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the University of Music Franz Liszt it has two universities that attract students from Berlin as well; on top of that there are jobs in the cultural and museum sector. In 1999 Weimar was European Capital of Culture. We accompany the move from the first box in Berlin to the furnished flat on the Ilm – at a fixed price after a survey.
The move from Weimar to Berlin often follows graduation: anyone who has studied architecture or design at the Bauhaus-Universität finds a large job market in the capital. Others move back for family reasons. The same conditions apply in this direction – a survey in Weimar, a written fixed price, liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) and the same care as on the outbound trip, regardless of the direction of travel.
Via the A9 and A4 to Weimar: route and procedure
From Stromstraße 21 to Weimar it is around 283 kilometres. The lorry takes the Berlin Ring onto the A9 heading south to the Hermsdorf interchange and there onto the A4 heading west – over the Teufelstal Bridge, past Jena, through the 3,074 m Jagdberg Tunnel and past Apolda to the Weimar junction. For the loaded lorry, which may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway, we allow approx. 4 hrs of driving time; if traffic jams make it longer than 4.5 hours, a 45-minute break is mandatory.
On moving day the procedure starts with loading in Berlin, including dismantling and securing delicate items. After the drive comes unloading in Weimar, whether in the old town or one of the outer districts; we clarify access and the stopping place beforehand. Whether this can be done in one day with your volume, we decide at the survey. For the move from Weimar to Berlin everything runs in the opposite direction.
Weimar's districts and the way back to Berlin
In Weimar the residential areas lie close together, but they differ markedly for a move. The old town (Altstadt) on the bend of the Ilm has many listed buildings and narrow streets. Weimar-Nord (from 1962) and Weimar-West (from 1978) are prefab housing estates, as is Schöndorf with the Waldstadt north of the city on the Ettersberg. Oberweimar lies south of the old town on the Ilm, Tiefurt with its palace and park also on the Ilm, Ehringsdorf in the south-east; then there are Nordvorstadt, Westvorstadt and Südstadt. For us, what counts at every address is where the lorry can stop and what the stairwell is like – we clarify that before moving day.
On the move back to Berlin a much larger housing market awaits you, where good flats are let quickly. Parking space is scarce in the inner-city districts; we apply to the district office for the parking restriction zone on your behalf. We coordinate moving day with your key handover and provide storage if needed.
