Moving from Berlin to Kiel (Schleswig-Holstein) – and back

Moving company Berlin
With a mandatory break to the fjord: your move to Kiel
To the Kiel Fjord
On a move from Berlin to Kiel of around 346 km, the break is mandatory by the numbers alone – unlike to Hamburg, Lübeck or Neumünster: at 80 km/h for lorries over 3.5 t, the pure driving time exceeds four and a half hours, after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break. We therefore reckon with approx. 5.5 hrs of driving time including the break. The route runs via the A24 and A21, passing east of Hamburg, to the Kiel Fjord. After the survey we turn the guide price from €1,420 into a binding fixed price; we are liable under the German Commercial Code, from loading in Berlin to unloading in Kiel.
Whether you are moving to the Baltic coast for work or want to return from Kiel to Berlin – we handle the move in both directions with the same care. On request we dismantle and reassemble furniture, kitchen and electrical appliances, so you do not have to worry about anything. For narrow stairwells or high floors – in Kiel as in Berlin period buildings – we provide a furniture lift if needed. That way your long-distance move Berlin Kiel runs smoothly, on schedule and without nasty surprises.

Why Kiel needs its own schedule
Your long-distance moving partner in both directions
We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive right to the door in Kiel. On a long-distance move of 346 km, planning is what counts: around four and a half hours of driving time are reached before Kiel, so the break is a fixed part of the schedule, and with loading and unloading it becomes a long day. FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why people are drawn to the fjord – and back to Berlin
Kiel is the state capital and, with around 252,000 inhabitants, the largest city in Schleswig-Holstein. Many make a move from Berlin to Kiel for a job in administration, the port or research – Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität) was founded in 1665, and there are also the University of Applied Sciences and the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts. Others look for life by the water: the city lies in a horseshoe around the Kiel Fjord, and ferries leave from here for Scandinavia and the Baltic states. We organise this long-distance move with a fixed price, careful packing and a safe drive via the A24 and A21.
We equally handle the return move from Kiel to Berlin – for example after studying at the CAU, for a new job in the capital or because Berlin's cultural life is calling again. Outward or return: we plan both moves with the same care, the same fixed-price principle and liability under the German Commercial Code.
Via the A24 and A21 to Kiel – with a mandatory break
From Stromstraße 21 to Kiel it is around 346 kilometres. Via the A111 (19 km) and the Berlin ring road, the lorry reaches the A24, stays on it for 215 km to the Schwarzenbek/Grande interchange and takes the B 404 to the Bargteheide interchange. There the A21 begins: 63 km past Bad Oldesloe and Bad Segeberg to Klein Barkau; the last kilometres into the city run along the B 404 again. Hamburg is thus bypassed to the east. At 80 km/h for lorries over 3.5 t (§ 18 (5) StVO), the driving time exceeds four and a half hours – after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break. This results in approx. 5.5 hrs of driving time including the break.
On moving day we load in Berlin, drive to Kiel with a break and unload there, with furniture assembly on request. With loading and unloading it becomes a long day; whether it is enough or we plan two days, we decide at the survey. The return move from Kiel to Berlin works the same way, just in the opposite direction.
Arriving in Kiel – or back in Berlin
Kiel has 30 districts on the west and east banks of the fjord – from Düsternbrook, Brunswik and Ravensberg via the Wik and Holtenau, where the Kiel Canal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal) enters the fjord through its locks, to Gaarden, Elmschenhagen and Schilksee, the northernmost district on the open Baltic Sea. During Kiel Week (Kieler Woche) – held since 1882, with sailing regattas, a parade of ships and a funfair – the city is full; a moving date that week needs careful planning. We check access and parking space at your new address and apply for the parking restriction zone at the responsible road traffic authority in Kiel.
On a return move to Berlin, parking space is scarce in neighbourhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg or Charlottenburg; there we apply for the parking restriction zone at the district office. If you start your flat search early and coordinate the date with us, things are easier – if necessary, we store your furniture until you move in.
