From Moabit to the 2025 Capital of Culture: moving to Chemnitz
Via the A13 and A4
A long-distance move from Berlin to Chemnitz needs good planning above all. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen the lorry starts at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit, leaves the city via the A100 and A113, then drives around 151 km on the A13 to the Dresden-Nord interchange and finally around 74 km on the A4 past Dresden to the Chemnitz junctions. That is around 266 km and approx. 3.5 hrs by lorry. You receive your fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for damage under § 451e HGB – to your new home in Chemnitz or back to Berlin.
From the first survey through packing to final assembly in the new flat, we take care of every step of your move Berlin Chemnitz. Our team packs boxes, secures fragile furniture and loads the removal van so that nothing shifts over the roughly 266 kilometres. We are also happy to check short-notice dates – whether they are possible depends on availability. That way your long-distance move between the capital and south-west Saxony becomes easy to plan.

Why Chemnitz usually fits into one moving day
Moabit in the morning, Chemnitz in the afternoon – or the other way round
We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive right to your door in Chemnitz – whether a Gründerzeit flat on the Kaßberg, an old building on the Sonnenberg or a house in Rabenstein. At around 266 km and approx. 3.5 hrs by lorry, the route stays below the driving time limit after which a break is required; whether loading, driving and unloading can be done in one day for your volume, we decide at the survey. The fixed price is then set in writing, and we are liable for damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB). This applies to a small Chemnitz flat just as much as to the move back to a large old Berlin flat.

Moabit – Chemnitz: there and back
Capital of Culture, university and engineering: who moves to Chemnitz
Chemnitz was European Capital of Culture 2025 and is the third-largest city in Saxony. A move from Berlin to Chemnitz often has to do with studying or working at TU Chemnitz, with a job in industry and mechanical engineering, for which the city was already called the "Saxon Manchester" in the 19th century, or with proximity to the Ore Mountains, on whose northern edge the city lies. Many look at flats in the Gründerzeit quarters of Kaßberg and Sonnenberg. Our team organises the move from packing in Berlin to assembly in the new Chemnitz flat.
Conversely, a new job, the cultural scene or family lead many to make the move from Chemnitz to Berlin. We handle this move with the same fixed-price principle: survey, written quote, one team from door to door.
266 km via the A13 and A4: route and process
From Stromstraße 21 to Chemnitz it is around 266 kilometres. The lorry leaves Berlin via the A100 and A113, then drives around 151 km on the A13 to the Dresden-Nord interchange and around 74 km on the A4 westwards – past Dresden via the Nossen interchange, Hainichen and Frankenberg to the Chemnitz-Ost, Chemnitz-Glösa or Chemnitz-Mitte junctions, depending on the destination address. Lorries over 3.5 t may drive at most 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 para. 5 StVO), so we expect approx. 3.5 hrs of lorry driving time.
At the loading point we first pack and load, then comes the drive to Chemnitz or, the other way round, to Berlin. At the destination we unload and, on request, reassemble the furniture straight away. For a typical household this usually fits into one day; for a large volume we decide at the survey whether to plan two days.
Hillsides and Gründerzeit grids: Chemnitz addresses
Residential areas in Chemnitz differ considerably: the Kaßberg, the Sonnenberg and the Brühl were built as residential quarters in the last third of the 19th century; the Kaßberg is regarded as a Gründerzeit quarter. Then there are districts such as Schloßchemnitz, Bernsdorf or the Yorckgebiet, and on the outskirts Rabenstein and Einsiedel. In Gründerzeit streets we check access and parking in advance, because not every street has room for a large lorry. We do not quote specific rents – they change and depend on the location.
Anyone deciding on the move back to Berlin should start looking for a flat early. In the inner-city districts parking space is scarce; we apply for the parking restriction zone there at the district office so that the lorry stands right in front of the door after around three and a half hours of driving.
Guide prices for the 266 km to Chemnitz
Whether you are moving from Berlin to the Chemnitz river or from Chemnitz back to the Spree: the price comes from the load and the effort, not from flat rates. The table shows starting prices by flat size:
| Flat size | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
For the Moabit – Chemnitz route of around 266 km via Dresden we set from €910, whether there or back. What you actually pay is stated as a fixed price in the quote after the free survey.
Kaßberg stairwell or lift: what moves the Chemnitz price
What counts most is how many cubic metres go on the lorry. Then there are the 266 km via the A13 and A4 and the question of whether a Gründerzeit stairwell without a lift awaits on the Kaßberg or Sonnenberg. If you hand over the furniture assembly or need a parking restriction zone, you pay extra for it; small quantities travel more cheaply as a part load.
What we take on between Moabit and Chemnitz
Depending on what is to arrive in Chemnitz, combine these modules:
- Private move – the whole flat, from the Berlin cellar to the old Kaßberg building
- Company move – office, laboratory or practice, with assembly at the weekend where possible
- Furniture transport – a sofa, a wardrobe, a piano via the A13
- Part load – a few cubic metres on a tour towards Saxony
- Move with assembly – dismantling in Berlin, assembly in the Chemnitz flat
- House clearance – whatever is not coming along, we clear out beforehand
