Moving from Berlin to Leipzig (Saxony) – and back

Removal company Berlin
Moabit – Leipzig: one moving day via the A9
Right to your door in Leipzig
A move from Berlin to Leipzig is one of the short long-distance routes: from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit the lorry takes the city ring and AVUS onto the Berlin ring road, joins the A9 at the Potsdam interchange and passes Dessau, Bitterfeld-Wolfen and the Halle interchange on the way to the Schkeuditzer Kreuz. It covers the last stretch on the A14 into the north of Leipzig. In total that is around 188 km, approx. 2.5 hrs of driving time with the removal lorry. We decide the vehicle size and the number of helpers after the survey – in your Berlin flat or by video.
At Beste Umzug Unternehmen the fixed price you receive in writing after the survey applies – even if traffic stalls on the A9 near Dessau or before the Schkeuditzer Kreuz. We are liable under the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of cargo space required); for antiques, art or sensitive electronics we agree additional protection on request. We come from Berlin and drive right to your door in Leipzig, whether in Gohlis, Connewitz or Reudnitz-Thonberg.

Why 188 km fit into one moving day
Your long-distance moving partner in both directions
We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive right to your door in Leipzig – whether a flat in Gohlis, in Reudnitz-Thonberg or in Schleußig. At approx. 2.5 hrs by lorry, the route stays well under the 4.5 hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a break. For a typical flat, loading in Berlin, the drive and unloading in Leipzig can therefore usually be done in one day; for houses or a lot of assembly we plan more time. What applies is set out in the fixed price after the survey, liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) included.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Leipzig
A move to Leipzig often involves more than transport: furniture assembly in the new flat, packing crockery and pictures, and storage if moving out in Berlin and the key handover in Leipzig do not fall on the same day. Anyone switching to Leipzig University for the start of term usually travels most cheaply with a part load. For offices we plan dismantling, the drive via the A9 and reassembly so that operations pause as briefly as possible. Which of these services you need we discuss at the survey – they are then listed individually in the quote.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why people move to Leipzig – and back to Berlin again
With around 616,000 inhabitants, Leipzig is the largest city in Saxony. Anyone moving there from Berlin often has a specific reason: studying at the university founded in 1409, a job in the trade-fair city whose fair tradition dates back to 1190, or the wish to live closer to green spaces with children. In Leipzig, green mainly means the floodplain forest (Auwald) that runs through the city from north to south along the rivers, and the Neuseenland lake district, which was created on former lignite mining land. We handle the move from packing in Berlin to assembling the furniture in Leipzig.
The move from Leipzig to Berlin often follows the job market: a new job in the capital, starting a career after university, or family living in Berlin. The same conditions apply in this direction – a survey in Leipzig, a fixed price, liability under the German Commercial Code and a team that stays until the new door in Berlin. Where you will live plays a bigger role in the planning than the direction.
188 km via the A9 and A14: route and procedure
From Stromstraße 21 to Leipzig it is around 188 kilometres. In Berlin the lorry takes the city ring (A100), AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Potsdam interchange; then the A9 leads through Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt into Saxony as far as the Schkeuditzer Kreuz, which opened in 1936 as Europe's oldest motorway interchange. There it switches to the A14 into the north of Leipzig. Removal lorries over 3.5 t may drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), so we calculate approx. 2.5 hrs of driving time rather than the car time. That is well under the 4.5 hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break. We drive the return move from Leipzig to Berlin along the same route in the opposite direction.
In Leipzig we unload swiftly, carry the furniture into the flat and reassemble it on request. For a typical flat, loading, the drive and unloading usually fit into one day. For large households or narrow stairwells we use a furniture lift or plan more time – we decide that at the survey.
Leipzig neighbourhoods and the way back to Berlin
Leipzig is divided into ten city districts and 63 neighbourhoods. People coming from Berlin move, for example, to Gohlis in the Nord district, to the Südvorstadt or to Connewitz in the south, to Plagwitz and Schleußig in the south-west, or to Reudnitz-Thonberg in the south-east. What counts for us at the new address is where the lorry can stop, how long the carrying distance is and whether there is a lift – we clarify this in advance and, if needed, apply for the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) at the responsible road traffic authority in Leipzig.
Anyone moving from Leipzig back to Berlin often ends up in inner-city neighbourhoods where parking is scarce; in Friedrichshain, Neukölln or Prenzlauer Berg the parking restriction zone is almost always part of it. We apply for it at the district office, coordinate the date with your key handover and store items if needed until the Berlin flat is free.
