From Berlin to Leipzig
Moving to Leipzig: Gründerzeit, canals and floodplain forest
Guide
With around 616,000 inhabitants, Leipzig is the largest city in Saxony and the seventh-largest in Germany. The city is divided into 10 boroughs (Stadtbezirke) with 63 districts (Ortsteile) – from Gründerzeit quarters such as Gohlis, Schleußig and the Südvorstadt, via Plagwitz and Lindenau on the Karl-Heine Canal, to the large housing estates of Grünau and Paunsdorf. If you are coming for a job or to study, you will find very different residential areas here. Because many older streets are densely built up, we clarify access and the no-parking zone in advance.
We take care of the complete home move, from packing to furniture assembly – whether an older building in the Südvorstadt or a new build in Lindenau. From Berlin (Stromstraße 21) it is around 188 km via the A9 and a short stretch of the A14, about two and a half hours by lorry; so for normal flats one day is usually enough. We state the fixed price after a survey, including for the return journey from Leipzig to Berlin. Call us on 01625978461.

Survey, fixed price, fixed date
Whether you are moving from Berlin to Leipzig or from Leipzig back to Berlin: after a survey or a video appointment we state a fixed price that already includes volume, floors, access and the around 188 km. Any city fees for a no-parking zone are listed separately. More on long routes under Long-distance moves.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we handle for your move to Leipzig
A short route, carefully planned
Leipzig is growing, and with demand the pressure on the housing market is rising – one reason to fix the moving date early. We have no branch in Leipzig; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit, and the short route of around 188 km makes many things easier. We clarify access, floor and stairwell in advance – from the Waldstraßenviertel to the courtyards in Plagwitz. Our liability for your household goods is €620 per cubic metre under § 451e HGB; additional insurance is available for a piano, art or sensitive electronics. You will find places with their own pages under Locations.

Not much to move? Part load!
For smaller volumes or single items, a part load to Leipzig can be cheaper: your belongings share the load space with other consignments on the short route via the A9 to Saxony. In return, a time window applies instead of a fixed date; we clarify whether a trip fits when you enquire.

From
planning to assembly
If you are moving to Leipzig, think early about registering at the citizens' office, space for the removal van, and electricity and internet. The choice of district also affects rent, commute and everyday life – Leipzig has 63 of them, from Gründerzeit quarters to large housing estates. In many older streets parking space is scarce, and residents' parking areas restrict it further. If your new flat is not yet ready to move into, we store your furniture in Berlin and deliver on the agreed date. The city's information on registration and no-parking zones is given below.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Leipzig
Districts in Leipzig: from Gründerzeit quarters to large housing estates
Leipzig is divided into ten boroughs with 63 districts. In the west lie Plagwitz and Lindenau with converted factory buildings on the Karl-Heine Canal, and in the south the Südvorstadt and Connewitz with dense older housing. Schleußig lies between the Weiße Elster river and the floodplain forest (Auwald), Gohlis in the north is known for its Gründerzeit houses, and the Waldstraßenviertel borders the Rosental park. On the western and eastern edges of the city lie the GDR-era housing estates of Grünau and Paunsdorf. For the move, the areas differ mainly in stairwell, courtyard access and parking space: an older building without a lift needs more movers, a prefab block a free lift. If you are searching by location and budget, also look at tram lines and your commute; we do not decide this for you, but we plan the move to suit the address you choose. If the scope does not change, the price stays as stated in the quote.
Housing market, work and leisure in Leipzig
Leipzig has grown strongly, and the housing market is tight in popular areas. We do not quote specific prices per square metre, because they depend heavily on location and condition; the city's rent index (Mietspiegel) provides comparative values. Major employers include the Porsche and BMW plants, the DHL hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Leipzig University with its hospital and the HTWK university of applied sciences. Leisure options include the Gewandhaus and the opera, the floodplain forest and the lakes south of the city, such as Lake Cospuden and Lake Kulkwitz, which were created from flooded open-cast mines. If you search early and are flexible about location, you will find a flat more easily. It is best to plan giving notice in Berlin, registration and the no-parking zone backwards from moving-in day; the city's information on this is given below. If the new flat is not yet free, we store your furniture in Berlin in the meantime. What a home move includes is set out on the services page.
The moving price guide for your decision
Before you decide on a moving date, you should know the costs: 1-room flats start from €354, 2-room flats from €599, 3-room flats from €889 and 4-room flats from €1,279. For houses and villas there is always an individual quote. If you want to move to another city, we charge long-distance moves from €4.10 per kilometre. Feel free to use our free survey to get clarity on your individual costs.
What goes into the moving costs?
The moving costs take into account, among other things, the volume, the distance (from €4.10/km) and the floor with or without a lift. A parking restriction zone can also cause additional costs. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load are also possible.

Moving to Leipzig: planning registration at the citizens' office and a no-parking zone
In Leipzig you register your new residence at a citizens' office (Bürgerbüro). According to the city of Leipzig, you can visit the citizens' offices without an appointment during opening hours or book an appointment online in advance; current waiting times can be viewed online. According to the city, bookable appointments are available two weeks in advance. Every citizens' office is open to you regardless of where you live, and registering your address is also possible online via wohnsitzanmeldung.gov.de. The legal deadline is set by § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz): anyone moving into a home must register with the registration authority within two weeks of moving in.
On moving day, a clear space in front of the building is crucial. Under § 45 StVO, traffic signs are ordered by the road traffic authority. How exactly this is applied for in Leipzig is something to clarify with the city, for example via the citizens' telephone line 0341 115 (Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm). According to the city, the municipal traffic enforcement service of the public order office (Ordnungsamt) monitors stationary traffic in the city area. This is a reason not to reserve the space on your own initiative.
- Ask early: Clarify the conditions for a loading area as soon as the moving date is fixed.
- Give the street and house number: The more precisely the area is described, the more reliably the length can be planned.
- Clarify the signage: Ask the city by when and by whom the signs must be put up.
How we organise this is explained on our parking restriction zone page.
Leipzig: Plagwitz, Lindenau and Gründerzeit buildings when moving
If you live in a densely built-up district such as Plagwitz or Lindenau, the stairwell, courtyard access and street width determine the effort involved. The city of Leipzig lists the residents' parking areas on its website. If you live there, you should know that these zones can affect the parking space available for a removal vehicle. So clarify early where the lorry can stand.
- Older building with a stairwell: Measure the width and turns. Bulky furniture may need to be dismantled or moved via a window and courtyard.
- Converted commercial buildings: Ask about a goods lift, its dimensions and load capacity, and the times when it may be used.
- Rear building: Check whether the passageway is wide enough for a van or whether you should expect carrying distances from the kerb.
- New build: Ask the property management about requirements for the lift and entrance.
We record these points in the quote so that the staff and vehicle are right for the job. If you need help after a wrongly parked vehicle has been towed away, you will find the page "Auto abgeschleppt - wie weiter?" (car towed – what next?) on leipzig.de. If you would like to get to know Leipzig as a whole, read our guide Living in Leipzig. Our services for Leipzig are listed under Removal company Leipzig.
