Ulm on the Danube: 618 km via the A7 without a detour via Stuttgart

Removal company Berlin
Berlin – Ulm via Feuchtwangen and Aalen
Ulm or Neu-Ulm
A move from Berlin to Ulm leads around 618 kilometres south from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit – to the Danube, which at Ulm forms the border between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. We set the fixed price after a free survey, in your flat or by video. We pack in Berlin, dismantle furniture, load, drive and reassemble at the destination. Whether your new address is in Ulm or opposite in Bavarian Neu-Ulm, we clarify beforehand – each town is responsible for its own parking restrictions and registration.
The lorry drives along the A9 to the Nuremberg-East interchange, a stretch on the A6 to the Feuchtwangen/Crailsheim interchange and then on the A7 past Ellwangen, Aalen and Heidenheim to the Ulm/Elchingen interchange. Because removal lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway, we reckon with approx. 9 hrs including a break. We are liable for damage under the HGB, and optional additional insurance is available on request. We plan the return move from Ulm to Berlin on the same pattern.

Between the Spree and the Danube lie around 618 km; for that we set a lower limit from €2,480, and the same on the way back. Planning
Berlin – Ulm
Around your Berlin-Ulm move we take on more than the drive: packing, furniture dismantling and assembly, the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) at both addresses and, on request, storage or house clearance. For the roughly 618 km we plan in the drivers' driving time. Important in advance: if the new flat is in Neu-Ulm, you are moving to Bavaria – registration and parking restriction are then handled by the town of Neu-Ulm instead of Ulm.

A7, Danube, two federal states
University, Minster, Danube: why Berliners move to Ulm
Many who plan a move from Berlin to Ulm have a job or a university place in their pocket. Ulm University, founded in 1967, is on the Oberer Eselsberg; large employers such as the Wieland Group are also based in the city. With around 130,000 inhabitants Ulm is considerably smaller than Berlin and, together with Bavarian Neu-Ulm on the other bank of the Danube, forms a twin centre. We handle the organisation from packing in Berlin to assembling the furniture at the new address.
We drive the return move from Ulm to Berlin in exactly the same way: after graduating, for a new job in the capital or back to family. We come from Berlin and plan floor, stairwell and parking restriction for the buildings with rear courtyards and side wings that many people move back into. Fixed price and liability under the HGB apply equally in both directions.
618 km: the A9, A6 and 93 km of the A7
From the yard in Moabit we take the A100, AVUS and the Berlin ring road onto the A9, past Leipzig, Hof and Bayreuth to the Nuremberg-East interchange. Unlike destinations around Stuttgart, the lorry stays on the A6 for only around 77 km; at the Feuchtwangen/Crailsheim interchange it switches to the A7 heading south. This leads around 93 km past Ellwangen, Aalen, Heidenheim and Langenau to the Ulm/Elchingen interchange, from where a short stretch of the A8 brings the lorry into the city. Around 618 km in total.
For lorries over 3.5 t a speed limit of 80 km/h applies on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving at the latest a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006). That adds up to approx. 9 hrs of driving. With loading in Berlin and unloading on the Danube that is too much for one driver – we drive as a pair or over two days. The same planning applies on the way back.
Ulm or Neu-Ulm: arriving on the Danube
Ulm lies mostly north of the Danube; the river is the state border here. Opposite on the right bank lies Neu-Ulm, a major district town (Große Kreisstadt) in the Bavarian administrative region of Swabia. For you this means: with an address in Neu-Ulm you register there, and we apply for the parking restriction at the Neu-Ulm authority instead of in Ulm. In Ulm itself the districts range from the Eselsberg with the university via Söflingen and Böfingen to Wiblingen with its baroque monastery; we clarify gradient, floor and parking space in advance.
On a return move to Berlin we plan just as carefully: parking restriction via the road traffic authority of the district office, an appointment at the Bürgeramt within two weeks of moving in. We do not quote specific rents – they change constantly; start your flat search early, and we set the moving date as soon as the tenancy agreement is signed.
Guide prices: Berlin – Ulm
We see what your move costs after the survey. In advance, the table shows roughly where households start – for a move to Ulm just as for the route from Ulm to Berlin:
| Flat size | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
On top comes the route to the Danube of around 618 km; for that we start from €2,480, whether you are moving there or coming back. If the destination is in Neu-Ulm, that changes nothing in the price. We put the fixed amount in the quote after the free survey.
What the price to Ulm depends on
The decisive factor is the volume. Then comes the distance of around 618 km, calculated at a price per kilometre. At the destination, floor, lift and carrying distance count – often longer in the Fishermen's Quarter. Extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction are listed separately in the quote; a part load saves money if you have little to move.
