Moving Berlin – Karlsruhe: right across Thuringia and Hesse
With a plan over 676 km
A move from Berlin to Karlsruhe starts with us at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit and ends around 676 kilometres further south-west, in the city of the Federal Court of Justice and the Federal Constitutional Court. We set the fixed price after a free survey – at your home or by video. During it we clarify volume, floors and carrying routes at both addresses and tell you whether two drivers take turns or we spread the move over two days. Beste Umzug Unternehmen handles packing, dismantling, transport and assembly from a single source.
The route does not go via Nuremberg but via the A9 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz, the A4 past Erfurt and Eisenach and, from the Hattenbach junction, via the A5 past Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Heidelberg to Karlsruhe. Because a lorry over 3.5 t may drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway, that is approx. 10.5 h of driving time with a break. Our liability for damage is governed by the HGB; optional additional insurance is available on request. Whether a move to Karlsruhe or a return move to Berlin – the process is the same.

We are a moving company from Berlin-Moabit and drive your household goods right to your door in Karlsruhe. With a good nine hours of pure driving time, the route is longer than one driver may drive in one day under EU law – that is why we plan two drivers or an overnight stay and tell you this before the move, not afterwards. We give you the fixed price after the survey; our liability for damage is governed by the HGB, and more cover is possible on request. Whether the new address is in Durlach, the Südstadt or Mühlburg: we clarify access and stopping space beforehand.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Karlsruhe
A Berlin–Karlsruhe move involves more than the drive: notice in Berlin, a parking restriction zone at both addresses, dismantling and assembling furniture, and on request storage or clearance. For the long route via the A9, A4 and A5 we also plan in the driving times – two drivers or two days. The lorry no longer needs an environmental badge in Karlsruhe; the low-emission zone was lifted in March 2023. After moving in, you register with the registration authority within two weeks.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why Berliners move to Karlsruhe – and back again
Anyone moving from Berlin to Karlsruhe often has a new employment contract: at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the oldest and largest of the city's nine universities, at one of the federal authorities or at companies such as EnBW and dm, which are headquartered here. The Federal Court of Justice has worked in Karlsruhe since 1950 and the Federal Constitutional Court since 1951 – hence the nickname “residence of law”. The location on the Upper Rhine, with the southern Palatinate and northern Alsace as neighbours, also speaks for the city for many. We bring your household goods over the roughly 676 kilometres, packed and on the agreed date.
The return move from Karlsruhe to Berlin often follows the end of a doctorate at the KIT, a fixed-term project or the wish to live closer to family and friends again. For us that is home ground: Berlin older buildings with a fourth floor without a lift are part of our everyday work. We organise the way back just like the outward move – with a survey, fixed price, transport and furniture assembly.
The route: 676 km via Thuringia and the long A5
On moving day the route goes from Moabit via the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road onto the A9, past Leipzig to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz. There the lorry changes to the A4 heading west, past Jena, Erfurt and Eisenach to the Kirchheim junction near Bad Hersfeld. A few kilometres south, at the Hattenbach junction, the A5 begins: via the Frankfurter Kreuz, Darmstadt, the Bergstraße and Heidelberg to Karlsruhe – around 676 kilometres in total.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO). The pure driving time is therefore a good nine hours – more than EU Regulation 561/2006 allows one driver per day; in addition, a 45-minute break is mandatory after four and a half hours. We calculate approx. 10.5 h of driving including a break and decide during the survey whether two drivers drive or the move takes two days. The same applies from Karlsruhe to Berlin.
Arriving in Karlsruhe – or back in Berlin
Karlsruhe is divided into 27 districts, eight inner and 19 outer. To this day the city centre follows the plan of 1715: 32 streets and avenues radiate out from the palace, and the built-up south resembles a fan – hence the name “Fächerstadt” (fan city). Formerly independent places such as Durlach, Mühlburg or Knielingen are older than the city itself. Important for the lorry: the Kaiserstraße is a pedestrian zone, and an environmental badge has no longer been needed since March 2023. From the A5 we reach the city via the Karlsruhe-Nord, Karlsruhe-Durlach or Karlsruhe-Mitte exits, depending on the address.
If you are moving from Karlsruhe back to Berlin, for example to Pankow, Friedrichshain or Charlottenburg, we apply for the parking restriction in front of your new front door at the district office. We come from Moabit and see every day how tight Berlin streets get on moving day; you should start your flat search in Berlin early.

What determines the price of your move to Karlsruhe
The biggest factor is the volume. With a long-distance move Berlin–Karlsruhe the distance also counts (around 676 km via the A9, A4 and A5, with two drivers or two days). Other factors: floor, lift and additional services such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone. With a part load you save even more on small quantities.
