Moving Berlin – Steyr: 636 km to the Enns and Steyr rivers and back

Removal company Berlin
To the Enns and Steyr: your move Berlin ↔ Steyr
The last stretch on the B309
Around 636 kilometres separate Stromstraße 21 in Moabit from Steyr. We do not have an Austrian branch: the same lorry with the same crew drives from Berlin via Dresden and Prague, past České Budějovice and over the Wullowitz border crossing into Upper Austria, through Linz onto the A1 and finally along the Enns into the town on the B309. We discuss volume, lorry size and loading day at the survey. Our liability for damage to your belongings is under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre of cargo space), and optional additional insurance is available on request. We drive the way back to Berlin in the same way.
This includes packing, dismantling and assembly of your furniture and a written fixed price after a survey, in which tolls and parking restriction are already included. There are no customs formalities between Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria – all three are in the EU; what needs planning is driving times, breaks and the registration deadline in Steyr. You have a fixed contact person from the enquiry to unloading. That makes the move from Berlin to Steyr or the other way round plannable.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
To Steyr and back: moving to the Upper Austrian Alpine foothills
Anyone moving from Berlin to Steyr changes country but not the single market: furniture and household goods need no customs papers, but a registration deadline applies in Austria. Steyr is the third-largest town in Upper Austria after Linz and Wels and lies at the confluence of the Enns and Steyr rivers on the border with Lower Austria. Since 2010 the town has been connected to the West Autobahn via the Steyrer Straße B309 – for us the final stage. What access looks like at your new address, we clarify at the survey.
We drive the return move from Steyr to Berlin in exactly the same way, just in the opposite direction: collection in Steyr, via Linz, České Budějovice and Prague to Dresden, unloading and assembly in Berlin. On request we take care of the parking restriction zones at both addresses and storage if the Berlin flat is not yet free.
The route: around 636 km via Prague, České Budějovice, Linz and the B309
After the A100 and A113 come the A13 (around 151 km to Dresden), briefly the A4 and the A17 to the Czech border. Via the D8 we go to Prague, then via the I/3 and the D3 past České Budějovice to the Wullowitz border crossing. In Upper Austria the B310, S10 and the Mühlkreis Autobahn A7 (29 km) lead through Linz; at the Linz junction we take the A1 (11 km) to Enns-West and the Steyrer Straße B309 along the Enns to Steyr. Altogether around 636 kilometres, approx. 9 h by lorry including breaks.
On German motorways lorries over 3.5 t are limited to 80 km/h (§ 18 para. 5 StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel the EU prescribes a 45-minute break. At around nine hours the journey comes close to the daily driving-time limit – which is why we often load in Berlin the day before or use a second driver. The decision is made with you at the survey; the way back to Berlin uses the same roads.
Arriving in Steyr: registration form and districts
Anyone moving into Steyr has three days to register. You need the registration form (Meldezettel), signed by the person providing the accommodation, and a travel document; with ID Austria or EU Login it also works online via oesterreich.gv.at. The town lies on several levels: down at the confluence the Innere Stadt with the Stadtplatz – one of the best-preserved old-town ensembles in the German-speaking world – as well as Steyrdorf and the Wehrgraben with its historic canal system; up on the high terrace the Tabor, plus Ennsleite, Münichholz, Gleink and Christkindl. Flights of steps connect the quarters between the levels; for the lorry, access and parking space are what count, and we check them beforehand.
On the way back to Berlin you deregister in Steyr within three days before or after moving out; in Berlin registration at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) is due within two weeks. We apply at the district office for the parking restriction zone outside the new address, whether in Pankow, Neukölln or Wilmersdorf; on request we provide storage until you move in.

What the price of a move to Steyr depends on
The volume weighs most: it determines the lorry size and crew. On the route to Steyr there are also the distance (around 636 km), the lorry tolls of two countries and the question of whether we load the day before. The floor, lift, furniture assembly and a parking restriction zone also play a part. If you are taking little, a part load is cheaper.
