A move from Berlin to Hannover often has a professional reason: Continental has its headquarters in Hannover, major trade fairs take place on the exhibition grounds – according to Wikipedia the second largest in the world – and Volkswagen in Wolfsburg lies on the same axis. Families look for more space in neighbourhoods such as Kleefeld or Bothfeld than is affordable in central Berlin. For us that means: furniture for larger floor plans, sometimes a cellar or garden that has to be counted too.
The move from Hannover to Berlin is often chosen by young people starting university, entering the start-up scene or looking for the capital's cultural scene. Jobs in IT, media or the creative industries also draw many back to Berlin. We adapt packing, vehicle size and schedule to each situation – whether a shared-flat room or a family flat.
285 km via the A2: route, driving time and process
From Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to Hannover it is around 285 kilometres. The lorry takes the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin Ring (A10) to the Werder junction and joins the A2 there, which it only leaves again shortly before Hannover at the Hannover-Ost interchange. Moving lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), so we reckon with approx. 4 hrs of lorry driving time instead of the shorter car time. That is below the 4.5 hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break – if there is congestion, we plan one in anyway.
At the destination in Hannover or Berlin we unload swiftly and, on request, assemble the furniture. Thanks to the fixed price you know before departure what costs to expect – regardless of how busy the A2 is that day. Whether loading, driving and unloading can be managed in one day for your volume, we decide after the survey.
Arriving in Hannover – or back in Berlin
Anyone moving to Hannover will find many period flats with high ceilings in List, Linden or the Südstadt, and a mix of period and post-war buildings in neighbourhoods such as Vahrenwald or Kleefeld. For period buildings we check the stairwell and access in advance, as not every street has room for a large lorry. Those commuting to Continental, the trade fair or Wolfsburg often choose their neighbourhood by commute – we schedule the moving date around your key handover.
When moving back to Berlin, you can expect a tight housing market, especially in districts such as Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain. If you are flexible, you are more likely to find affordable housing in Lichtenberg or Spandau. In Berlin's inner-city neighbourhoods parking space is scarce – a parking restriction zone is almost always part of it there, and we apply for it for you at the district office.
