Changing motorways five times: your move to Oldenburg
All the way to the Hunte
A long-distance move from Berlin to Oldenburg is one of our long trips to the north-west: from Stromstraße 21 in Moabit it is around 434 km. After the ring and the A2 the lorry swings north onto the A7 at the Hanover-East interchange, takes the A27 towards the Weser from the Walsrode junction, briefly the A1 at the Bremen interchange and from the Stuhr junction the A28, which leads past Delmenhorst and over an elevated road into the Oldenburg motorway ring. Packing, driving, carrying and assembly are handled by one team. That way your household goods get from the Spree to the Hunte or back – as a move from Berlin to Oldenburg at a fixed price.
The fixed price is set after the survey; a jam at the Hanover-East interchange or before the Bremen interchange changes nothing after that. For the approx. 6.5 hrs lorry drive including the mandatory break we factor in loading and unloading and decide beforehand whether unloading takes place the same evening or the next morning. We are liable under the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of loading space); more protection can be agreed for valuables. You can add furniture assembly, boxes and interim storage, in case the flat on the Hunte or on the Spree is not yet free. Advice on 01625978461.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Oldenburg
Here is what makes up the long-distance move from Berlin to Oldenburg and the move from Oldenburg to Berlin: five motorways, driving time and rest stops, loading zones at both buildings and two very different housing markets. On top of that come part load, furniture assembly and interim storage. Registration is due no later than two weeks after moving in (§ 17 Federal Registration Act, Bundesmeldegesetz): on the Hunte at the municipal registration office, on the Spree at a Berlin citizens' office (Bürgeramt). That way you are prepared for either direction.

Oldenburg and Berlin in both directions
Who moves to Oldenburg – and who moves back
The move from Berlin to Oldenburg often has a professional reason: the energy supplier EWE has its headquarters here, and the Carl von Ossietzky University teaches and researches at its Haarentor and Wechloy sites. Families appreciate the lower rents, the greenery and the calmer atmosphere on the Hunte compared with the capital. For them we plan the long-distance move so that boxes, lorry and furniture assembly suit the new flat.
Conversely, after final exams or for a job at an international company people often head back to the capital. For the move from Oldenburg to Berlin we look at the household goods on the Hunte, quote the fixed price and apply for the loading zone in front of the new Berlin building at the district office.
Changing motorways five times: from the AVUS to the ring around Oldenburg
After loading in Berlin the route goes via the AVUS and the Berlin Ring onto the A2 to the Hanover-East interchange, north on the A7 to the Walsrode junction, via the A27 past Verden and Achim to the Bremen interchange, a short stretch of the A1 to the Stuhr junction and finally on the A28 via Delmenhorst to Oldenburg – within the city as an urban motorway with junctions such as Osternburg and Eversten. By lorry the around 434 km take approx. 6.5 hrs including the 45-minute break that is required after four and a half hours of driving time (EU Regulation 561/2006).
The city is enclosed by the A28, A29 and A293; depending on the neighbourhood we choose the right exit so that the lorry does not have to go right through the centre. Because the drive takes up a large part of the day, we decide at the survey whether unloading takes place the same evening or the next morning. Back to Berlin we take the same motorways in reverse order.
Arriving in Oldenburg – neighbourhoods & housing market
Oldenburg has many neighbourhoods with their own character: Osternburg south of the Hunte, Eversten and Bloherfelde in the west, Haarentor and Wechloy around the university, Nadorst, Bürgerfelde and Ofenerdiek in the north and Kreyenbrück in the south. Many people find the housing market in Oldenburg less tight than in Berlin, but small flats around the university are let quickly. Inside the Wallring lies the pedestrian zone, regarded as the oldest area-wide one in Germany – for addresses there we clarify in advance from where we are allowed to carry.
In the opposite direction the Berlin market is the bigger hurdle: in Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Charlottenburg the search often takes months. We set the moving day for your flat handover so that there is no gap between moving out on the Hunte and moving in on the Spree.
Guide prices for the long-distance move to the Hunte
What the journey to Oldenburg costs is decided first of all by the amount of your household goods – the direction you travel does not matter. For orientation:
| Household size | Volume approx. | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| one room or shared-flat room | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| two-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| three rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| four rooms, family | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| brick or detached house | from 60 m³ | quote after a survey |
For the around 434 km from Moabit to the Hunte the guide price starts from €1,700, there and back. It becomes binding after a free survey.
Route, volume, rest stop: what determines the price to Oldenburg
At the very top is the volume, closely followed by the route: for the around 434 km we calculate from €4/km, and because of the mandatory break the lorry is on the road longer than on short routes. On top of that come floor, lift, furniture assembly and the loading zone. With only a few items, the part load saves money.
