Moving from Berlin to Saarlouis (Saarland) – and back

Removal company Berlin
To the town on the Großer Markt: your move Berlin ↔ Saarlouis
All the way to the middle Saar
For a move from Berlin to Saarlouis we drive around 741 kilometres – from our site at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to the middle Saar, to the district town of the Saarlouis district. We come from Berlin and stay with the same team from loading to setup, whether your new address is in the town centre, in Roden, Fraulautern or Lisdorf. At the survey we determine volume, floors and additional services and give you a written fixed price.
The route is longer than a working day at the wheel: almost ten hours of pure driving time exceed the nine hours that EU Regulation 561/2006 allows one driver per day; the extension to ten hours is only permitted twice a week and would leave no buffer for traffic jams or loading. We therefore drive with two drivers taking turns or stay overnight on the way. We apply for parking restriction zones (Halteverbotszonen) at both addresses, dismantle furniture in Berlin and reassemble it in Saarlouis. Liability is under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre); higher cover is possible on request – in both directions.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Berlin – Saarlouis in both directions: how we plan
The move from Berlin to Saarlouis begins with a survey, in person or by video call. We record volume, floors, special items and access at both addresses and decide whether two drivers or an overnight stop are planned. This produces the written fixed price. On moving day we pack and load in Berlin, drive the roughly 741 kilometres to the Saar and reassemble your furniture in the new flat.
For the return move from Saarlouis to Berlin we reverse the order: loading in Saarlouis, the drive via the A8, A6, A63, A5, A4 and A9, unloading at your Berlin address, where we apply for the parking restriction at the road traffic authority of the district office. Liability, process and planning are the same in both directions.
The route: around 741 km via the A63 and finally the A8
From Moabit we go via the AVUS and A10 onto the A9 heading south to the Hermsdorf interchange, via the A4 past Erfurt and Eisenach and via the Hattenbach interchange onto the A5 to Frankfurt. Short stretches of the A3, A67 and A60 take us across the Rhine near Mainz; from the Mainz-Süd interchange the A63 follows to the Kaiserslautern interchange, then the A6 to the Neunkirchen interchange. We drive the last 39 km westwards on the A8, past Heusweiler and Saarwellingen, to Saarlouis. Around 741 km, approx. 11.5 hrs of lorry driving time including breaks.
On German motorways lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h (§ 18(5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving a 45-minute break is mandatory. The pure driving time is above the daily limit of nine hours, hence two drivers taking turns or an overnight stop on the way. On the return move the same route applies from Saarlouis via the A8 in the opposite direction.
Arriving in Saarlouis: neighbourhoods, parking restriction, registration
Saarlouis was founded in 1680 under Louis XIV as a fortress town, to plans by Vauban. The hexagonal layout of the fortress still shapes the town centre today; its centre is the Großer Markt, the former parade ground, and the surviving casemates now house restaurants. The district town is the fifth-largest town in the Saarland and includes neighbourhoods such as Fraulautern, Roden, Lisdorf, Beaumarais, Picard, Neuforweiler and Steinrausch. Whether old town or neighbourhood: we check access and parking area in advance and apply for the parking restriction at the responsible road traffic authority.
After moving in you register with the registration office in Saarlouis within two weeks. On the return move to Berlin the same deadline applies at the Bürgeramt, with your ID and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). We apply for the Berlin parking restriction at the district office, and the signs go up 72 hours beforehand. That way the handover in Saarlouis and moving in in Berlin dovetail.
