Moving to Vienna: 684 km via Dresden Prague and Brno

Berlin → Danube
Through Bohemia and Moravia to the Danube
Border at Drasenhofen
The fastest lorry route to Vienna does not lead through Bavaria but through Czechia: the A13 to Dresden, the A17 through the eastern Ore Mountains to the border, the D8 to Prague and the D1 via Jihlava to Brno. Beyond Mikulov we reach Lower Austria at Drasenhofen and drive through the Weinviertel into the city. Our base is Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we have no office in Austria. At the survey we determine the volume, lorry size, assembly and access at your Vienna address, and only then is the fixed price set.
A good nine hours of pure driving time, approx. 10.5 hrs with breaks: together with loading in Berlin, that does not fit into one driver's daily shift under EU Regulation 561/2006. For Vienna we therefore use two drivers who take turns, or stop for a night and unload the next morning. Liability is under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; we arrange more cover on request. Piano transport, a fitted kitchen and interim storage can be booked in addition; the same applies to the move from Vienna to the Spree.

Fixed price for Vienna
Tolls in three countries and stopping places included
We give you the fixed price for your move to Vienna after a survey – at your home in Berlin or in a video call, reachable on 01625978461. Listed are the toll costs of all three countries, a driver change or overnight break, and the parking restrictions outside both buildings. Especially in Vienna, where parking is charged almost everywhere, the stopping place is part of the planning. We calculate the way back in exactly the same way.
Quotes are available individually depending on effort, availability of dates and the scope of services required.

Long-Distance Move

No-Parking Zone

One lorry from the Spree to the Danube
No reloading, no outside company on the way
To Vienna it is around 684 kilometres and two borders – into Czechia in the Ore Mountains and into Austria at Drasenhofen. Because all three countries belong to the single market, household goods are not declared at any border. What needs planning is driving times, three toll systems and a stopping place in a city with area-wide parking management. The start is our yard at Stromstraße 21, and your goods stay in the same lorry. After the survey you receive the fixed price in writing; we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

Part load to Vienna
A sofa, a bed and a few boxes to Vienna? That is what the part load is for: the pieces travel along in a lorry that is heading towards the Danube anyway, and cost only their share of the cargo area. Whether such a trip is coming up, you find out after your enquiry.

Planning
Berlin ↔ Vienna
Before the lorry leaves for Vienna, it is settled: where it may stop in Berlin and where in the Vienna district, which kitchen and which wardrobes are dismantled, whether a piano or safe is coming along, storage in case the flat is not yet free, and a two-person team or an overnight stay. From the day you move in, a three-day deadline runs in Austria for the registration form (Meldezettel) – at one of the municipal district offices (Magistratische Bezirksämter) or online. Anyone returning from Vienna to Berlin deregisters there and registers in Berlin at the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks.

Vienna: federal capital with 23 municipal districts
Vienna is both a city and a federal state, has over two million inhabitants and since 1954 has been divided into 23 municipal districts (Gemeindebezirke). The Gürtel separates the inner districts 3 to 9 from the outer districts; the Ringstraße with the Opera, Parliament and City Hall runs around the old town. For planning, your address counts: can the lorry stand outside, how tall is the Gründerzeit building, is there a lift? Anyone moving from Berlin to Vienna stays within the EU single market; Czechia, through which the route runs, also belongs to it. Furniture and household goods therefore need no papers, but you yourself do need to register within three days.
We also drive from Vienna to Berlin: loading in the district, heading north via Brno, Prague and Dresden, unloading at your Berlin door. Cubic metres, floors, assembly and 684 road kilometres make up the price – whichever direction. We take care of both parking restrictions.
The route: Elbe valley, Bohemia, Moravia, Weinviertel
In the morning we load in Berlin and take the A100 and A113 onto the A13, which reaches Dresden after 151 km. After a short stretch of the A4, the A17 (44 km) leads through the eastern Ore Mountains to the Czech border. In Czechia we take the D8 to Prague and beyond the city the D1 via Jihlava to Brno. South of there we continue via Mikulov to the Drasenhofen border crossing, then through the Weinviertel into the city. In total around 684 km, approx. 10.5 hrs with breaks.
In Germany lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel a 45-minute break is mandatory. In Czechia heavy lorries pay an electronic distance-based toll with an on-board unit, while vans up to 3.5 t have needed an electronic vignette since 2021. Because driving and loading together exceed a daily shift, two drivers take turns, or we stay overnight and unload in Vienna the following day. On the way back to Berlin the same applies in reverse order.
Arriving in Vienna: registration service, districts, parking
You have three days from moving in to register. This can be done at any of the 19 municipal district offices with the completed Meldezettel, signed by the person who provides you with the flat, and a travel document; online it works with ID Austria. Whether you move to the Leopoldstadt between the Danube and the Danube Canal, to Mariahilf or Neubau, where a 30 km/h limit has applied almost everywhere since 2019, to Favoriten or to the Donaustadt: we check access, stopping place and carrying distances in advance. Parking in Vienna is generally subject to a charge, so a reserved space for the lorry is always part of it.
If you later go back to Berlin, you deregister in Vienna from three days before to three days after moving out, and register in Berlin at the Bürgeramt within two weeks. We apply to the district office for the parking restriction outside your new Berlin address – whether in Friedrichshain, Schöneberg or Weißensee – and schedule the unloading for your handover date.
Cost range for the move to Vienna
Whether you are moving to the Danube or back to the Spree: in the end there is a written fixed price that does not change on the way. These guide prices serve as a rough classification:
| Flat size | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
For the roughly 684 km to Vienna we set a guide price from €2,510, in both directions. Tolls in three countries and a second driver or overnight stay are listed individually in the quote. The price after your free survey is binding.
These points make up the price for Vienna
The most important item is the volume. For Vienna the roughly 684 kilometres through three toll systems come on top, plus the choice between two drivers and a night's stop. Also counting are the floor, a lift in a period building, carrying distances through courtyards and extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone. For a few pieces a part load saves money.
What we do for your move to Vienna
For Vienna you get everything from one team, from packing in Berlin to assembly in the district:
- Private move – period building, new build or council housing (Gemeindebau)
- Company move – office, agency or practice
- Furniture transport – single pieces padded and strapped
- Part load – a ride along on a tour via Prague
- Move with assembly – kitchen and wardrobes dismantled and set up again
- Clearance – cellar and box room empty beforehand
