Who moves to Potsdam – and who moves back to Berlin
A move from Berlin to Potsdam is often a move into greener surroundings without leaving the city entirely behind: families look for more space in Babelsberg, Bornstedt or the Waldstadt, students and staff of the University of Potsdam are drawn to Golm, to the Am Neuen Palais campus next to Sanssouci Park or to Griebnitzsee. Anyone coming from the Berlin rental market often finds larger floor plans in the capital of Brandenburg – with furniture that then needs to be arranged anew.
The move from Potsdam to Berlin is just as common: a new job in the city centre, the cultural offer or the more frequent U-Bahn and S-Bahn services. For us it is the same route in the opposite direction – survey, fixed price, one team from door to door. We then apply for the parking restriction zone at the new Berlin place of residence at the district office, and on request we reassemble your furniture there straight away.
35 km from Moabit: route, driving time and the moving day
From our site at Stromstraße 21 it is around 35 kilometres to Potsdam. The lorry takes a short stretch of the A100 city motorway to the Funkturm interchange and then the AVUS (A115); after that, depending on the destination address, it continues on city streets, for Potsdam's city centre for instance via the Glienicke Bridge. Without traffic jams that is around half an hour of pure lorry driving time; in rush hour we plan more. Removal lorries over 3.5 t may only drive at 80 km/h on the motorway anyway (§ 18(5) StVO).
The day itself has three parts: loading with blankets and straps at the pick-up address, the short drive, then unloading and furniture assembly at the destination. Because the drive is so short, a move to Potsdam – or from Potsdam back to Berlin – as a rule fits into one day. How many helpers are needed and whether a parking restriction zone is required at one of the addresses we decide after the survey.
Arriving: Potsdam districts and Berlin neighbourhoods
Anyone moving to Potsdam chooses between very different locations: period buildings in Babelsberg and Potsdam West, housing estates in the Waldstadt or in Drewitz, newer quarters in Bornstedt and around the science location of Golm.
