FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions

Route, price, parking restrictions and registration – answers for Frankfurt (Oder) and the way back to Berlin.

Why people head to the Oder – and back to the Spree

Many who move from Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder) come for the European University Viadrina: re-founded in 1991, with roots going back to 1506. Others take up a job in the independent city, which has borne the epithet „Kleiststadt“ since 1999, or work across the border, because the Polish town of Słubice can be reached on foot via the town bridge – passport controls there have been discontinued since 2007. With the A12, Berlin remains easily reachable for commuters. Our team organises the move from Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder) at a fixed price after a survey, whether a shared-flat room or a family flat.

Conversely, many are drawn back to Berlin – after graduating from the Viadrina, for a new job, for more culture or training opportunities in the capital. We handle the move from Frankfurt (Oder) to Berlin with packing, transport and furniture assembly. For the often cramped inner-city locations in Berlin we plan parking and carrying routes in advance so that unloading goes quickly.

106 km to the Oder: route and schedule

From Moabit to Frankfurt (Oder) it is around 106 kilometres. After the A100 and A113, a short stretch of the Berlin ring road (A10) leads to the Spreeau interchange; there the A12 begins, part of European route E30, which connects Berlin via the Polish motorway with Poznań and Warsaw. Removal lorries over 3.5 t are limited to 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), so we reckon with approx. 1.5 hrs of driving – many lorries travel the A12 in east-west traffic.

On moving day we load first, secure all the furniture in the cargo area and then drive straight to the Frankfurt (Oder)-West or -Mitte exit, depending on the destination address. Then we unload and, on request, assemble right away, so that you can settle in on the same day.

Arriving in Frankfurt (Oder) – or back in Berlin

Frankfurt (Oder) lies on the west bank of the Oder, which forms the border with Poland here; the neighbouring town of Słubice emerged in 1945 from the former Dammvorstadt. The districts include Stadtmitte, Gubener Vorstadt, Altberesinchen, Neuberesinchen, Lebuser Vorstadt, Hansaviertel and Nuhnenvorstadt, plus localities such as Güldendorf, Lossow, Kliestow and Booßen. In Hansa Nord, on the Südring and in Neuberesinchen there are blocks of flats from the 1970s and 1980s – we clarify the lift and access beforehand.

Anyone moving back to Berlin will find a larger job market there, more culture and a dense public transport network, but also a tight housing market. We come from Moabit, apply for the parking restriction zone at the district office and make sure that the move to Frankfurt (Oder), like the return move to Berlin, runs without stress.
