Arriving in Frankfurt (Oder): University City on the Border
Life on the Oder
Frankfurt (Oder) – not to be confused with Frankfurt am Main – is an independent city in Brandenburg with 56,586 inhabitants (end of 2025). It lies on the west bank of the Oder; opposite is the Polish town of Słubice, which was created in 1945 from Frankfurt's Dammvorstadt district and can be reached on foot via the town bridge. Since 1999 Frankfurt has borne the epithet “Kleist town”, and since the re-founding of the European University Viadrina in 1991 it has once again been a university city. This guide shows what newcomers take care of in the first weeks: registration at the Bürgerservice, flat hunting, resident parking, trams and buses.
From our location in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) it is around 106 km via the A12, about an hour and a half by lorry. Whether a flat in the city centre, a prefab block in Neuberesinchen or a house in Kliestow: we plan the home removal at a fixed price after a survey and usually complete it in one day. The route is described on the page Moving Berlin – Frankfurt (Oder).

A Fixed Price for Your Start on the Oder

How we prepare your move
Planning from Berlin-Moabit
We have no location on the Oder; we drive in by lorry from Berlin-Moabit – around an hour and a half via the A12. That is why we clarify beforehand what matters on arrival day: the lift in a prefab block in Neuberesinchen, Hansa Nord or on the Südring, access in the city centre around St Mary's Church and the Oderturm, a house in Lossow or Booßen. We apply to the city for the parking restriction outside the new address. For your belongings we accept liability under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of load space; additional insurance is available. We set the date so that you can register within two weeks.

By Shared Load to Frankfurt (Oder)
If you are moving to study at the European University Viadrina and are only furnishing one room, you can save with a shared load: your things travel together with other consignments towards the Oder. For this you need some flexibility on the delivery day. We clarify on the phone whether this is worthwhile over around 106 km or whether a small transport is cheaper.

If you live in a neighbourhood with a resident parking zone, you can apply to the City of Frankfurt (Oder) for a resident parking permit. According to the city, it is only valid in the designated resident parking zone and does not guarantee a particular parking space; depending on the zone, it may apply at certain times or around the clock.
Requirements according to the city:
- you are registered at an address in the zone (main or secondary residence) and actually live there,
- you do not have a private parking space,
