From Berlin to Brandenburg an der Havel
Moving to Brandenburg an der Havel: cathedral, Havel and lakes
Guide
With around 74,000 residents, Brandenburg an der Havel is the third-largest city in the state of Brandenburg and, by area, its largest independent city. The three medieval town centres – Altstadt, Neustadt and Dom – lie between arms of the Havel, surrounded by lakes such as the Plauer See and the Beetzsee. Since 2014 Brandenburg has been a university city, with the Technical University of Applied Sciences and the Medical School. If you are planning a move to Brandenburg an der Havel, allow early for the narrow streets of the historic centres and the parking restriction.
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 83 km by lorry via the A10 and the A2 to Brandenburg an der Havel – just over an hour's driving time. Loading in Berlin and unloading on the Havel are therefore often possible on the same day. Whether you are moving from Berlin to Brandenburg or back to Berlin: we quote the fixed price after a survey. The route is described on the page Moving Berlin – Brandenburg an der Havel. If you are only taking a few pieces of furniture, a shared load is often cheaper. We build parking spaces at both addresses into the plan.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Brandenburg an der Havel
Districts of Brandenburg an der Havel at a glance
The three medieval town centres form the districts of Altstadt, Neustadt and Dom: cobbled streets, older buildings and the Cathedral Island with the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul. There are charming flats here, but also narrow access routes, for which a parking restriction and enough movers should be planned. In the north lie Görden and Hohenstücken, with the Asklepios specialist hospital in Görden.
Further west lies Kirchmöser on the Plauer See, with an industrial harbour and the former Reichsbahn railway works; then there are localities such as Wust and Gollwitz. For the move, the specific address matters more than the district: an older building without a lift in the Neustadt needs different planning from a house in one of the waterside localities.
Employers, universities and quality of life
We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition; compared with Berlin, Brandenburg an der Havel is considered cheaper. Major employers include the Riva Group's electric steelworks, mechanical engineering with ZF Friedrichshafen and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, and the University Hospital Brandenburg an der Havel. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Brandenburg (since 1992) and the Medical School Brandenburg (since 2014) bring students to the city.
Berlin is easy to reach via the A2 and regional trains, which is why many commuters move here. In Brandenburg an der Havel, quality of life means water above all: the Plauer See and Beetzsee, cycle paths along the Havel and water sports. Then there is the historic city centre with the cathedral, churches and town gates.
This is what a move really costs
Many customers wonder what a move costs. As a rule: the larger the flat, the greater the effort. For a 1-room flat we charge from €344, for 2 rooms from €615, for 3 rooms from €879 and for 4 rooms from €1,344. If you own a house or villa, we prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we calculate from €4.20/km. Arrange a free survey right away.
How your moving price is composed
Besides the volume of the furniture to be transported, the distance plays a major role – here we calculate from €4.20/km. The floor, lift and a possible parking restriction zone are also factored into the calculation. Extra services such as furniture assembly or a shared load can be added as options.
