Berlin–Winterthur: moving to the garden city on the Eulach

Removal company Berlin
Via the A1 to Winterthur: a move with customs declaration
Across the customs border
Winterthur is the sixth-largest city in Switzerland and the second-largest in the canton of Zurich – for your move, above all, it lies beyond a customs border. On the move from Berlin to Winterthur your household goods are declared as removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut), with form 18.44 and an inventory list. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit), carry out the survey, record the volume and set a written fixed price. The same team loads in Berlin and unloads in Winterthur – or the other way round.
We plan packing, furniture assembly and the transport of a piano or art according to your wishes. At both addresses we organise the stopping area for the lorry: in Berlin via the district office, in Winterthur via the responsible office of the city. The roughly 831 kilometres exceed one day's driving time, so we drive with two drivers or over two days. If the move-in date does not fit, we provide interim storage – also on the return move from Winterthur to Berlin. Liability is under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre).

Moving Berlin ↔ Winterthur: quote with customs, toll and LSVA
We send a fixed-price quote for the Berlin–Winterthur move or the return to Berlin after a free survey – in your flat or by video. It lists packing, assembly, customs clearance, the Austrian lorry toll and the LSVA (Swiss heavy vehicle charge). A call on 01625978461 is enough. The basis is the volume, the route and the services you choose – for the way to the Eulach as well as back to the Spree.
Quotes are available individually depending on effort, availability of dates and the scope of services required.

Questions about the route via St. Gallen
To Winterthur and back: moving with removal goods
Anyone moving from Berlin to Winterthur transfers their residence to the canton of Zurich – around twenty kilometres north-east of the city of Zurich – and thus to a country outside the EU customs union. Household goods that you have used yourself for at least six months and continue to use in Switzerland can be imported duty-free as removal goods. The prerequisites are the signed form 18.44, an inventory list and proof of the change of residence such as an employment or tenancy contract. We prepare these documents with you and plan customs clearance into the moving day.
Anyone moving back from Winterthur to Berlin goes through the steps in reverse: when leaving Switzerland, the customs office receives a list of household goods with the old and new address, and in Germany you declare the removal goods to customs. There is a fixed price after the survey for this direction too; liability is under the HGB, with higher cover on request.
Procedure and route: around 831 km to Winterthur
The route runs via the A9 to Nuremberg, the A6 to the Feuchtwangen/Crailsheim interchange, the A7 to Memmingen and the A96 to Lindau. After a few kilometres on the Austrian A14 past Bregenz, we cross the border near Lustenau into the St. Gallen Rhine valley and drive on the Swiss A1 via St. Gallen to the Winterthur-Ohringen exit. Altogether that is around 831 km and approx. 12.5 hrs of lorry driving time including breaks.
On German motorways a lorry over 3.5 t is limited to 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel a 45-minute break is mandatory. For eastern Switzerland one day's driving time is not enough: two drivers relieve each other, or we stay overnight on this side of the border and clear customs on the next working day. Unloading takes place in Winterthur, and on the return move in Berlin – each time with furniture assembly.
City districts, junctions and registration in Winterthur
Winterthur is divided into seven city districts (Stadtkreise): Stadt, Oberwinterthur, Seen, Töss, Veltheim, Wülflingen and Mattenbach. The A1 runs west and north of the city, with junctions at Töss, Wülflingen, Ohringen/Veltheim and Oberwinterthur. For us, your exact address counts: we check access, stopping area, floor and carrying distances in advance. After moving in you register within 14 days – this applies to all municipalities in the canton of Zurich.
Back in Berlin you have two weeks to register at the registration office (Bürgeramt) – with your ID and the landlord's confirmation. We apply to the district office for the parking restriction outside the Berlin door; it is put up at least three full days beforehand. You hand over the flat in Winterthur after loading; if the move-in date is still missing, storage in Berlin bridges the time.

Which factors determine the price for Berlin–Winterthur
What counts most is the load volume. For Berlin–Winterthur the 831 kilometres come on top, the toll on the A14 and the LSVA on Swiss roads, customs clearance and the second driver or overnight stay. In addition, floor, lift and extras such as furniture assembly or a cordoned-off stopping place affect the price. If you take little with you, you save with a part load.
