A move from Berlin to Suhl leads to the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest, where the Lauter and Hasel rivers meet. Suhl has been an independent town (kreisfreie Stadt) since 1967 and from 1952 to 1990 was the capital of the GDR district of Suhl. The town calls itself „Waffenstadt Suhl“ (gun town Suhl): hunting weapons have been made here for a long time, the Weapons Museum in the historic Malzhaus tells the story, and the vehicle manufacturer Simson was also based here. The town has ten districts, including Heinrichs, Mäbendorf and Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig. Families and working people find a manageable town in the middle of the forest here.
The return move from Suhl to Berlin often has to do with studies, work or family – some are drawn back to a familiar Berlin neighbourhood. Via the A9, A4 and A71 through the Rennsteig Tunnel
From Stromstraße 21 to Suhl it is around 359 kilometres. The lorry takes the A100 and AVUS (A115) to the Berlin ring road (A10), at the Potsdam junction the A9 to the Hermsdorf interchange and then 67 km of the A4 to the Erfurt interchange. There the A71 begins: 48 km past Arnstadt, Ilmenau and Gräfenroda, through the Rennsteig Tunnel (7,916 m) and the Hochwald Tunnel to the Suhl/Zella-Mehlis junction. Removal lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO); the pure driving time is therefore over four and a half hours, after which EU Regulation 561/2006 prescribes a 45-minute break. We reckon with approx. 5.5 hrs of lorry driving including the break.
On moving day we load in Berlin in the morning and secure everything against slipping. In Suhl we unload at the new address and assemble the furniture on request. Whether that can be done in one day for your volume is decided during the survey. The same process applies in the opposite direction for the return move from Suhl to Berlin.

The decisive factor is the volume, because the roughly 359 km are the same for every household. Floors without a lift, long paths from the lorry to the door – not unusual in a valley town with steep side streets – as well as booked furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone make it more expensive. Small quantities travel more cheaply as a part load.
