From Berlin we drive via the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) onto the A9, which leads past Leipzig via Nuremberg to Munich. Via the A99 motorway ring we take the A8 towards Salzburg and cross the border at the Walserberg. At the Salzburg junction the Austrian A10 Tauern motorway begins; it leads through the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels into Carinthia and ends at the Villach junction. That is around 898 km and approx. 13.5 hrs of lorry driving including breaks.
On German motorways lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving a 45-minute break is mandatory. Because the route exceeds the daily driving time, two drivers take turns or we stay overnight on the way and unload the next day. In Austria the distance-based toll is payable for lorries over 3.5 t on motorways, and the section around the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels is additionally a special toll section, which lorries pay via the GO-Box. In Villach, registration comes first after moving in: in Austria the new residence must be registered within three days of moving in using the registration form (Meldezettel), also signed by the person providing you with the accommodation.
