To Wels on the Traun: 702 km via Passau

Berlin → Hausruckviertel
Upper Palatinate, Inn, Welser Heide: your way to Wels
From Suben to the Wels junction
If you move to Wels, you do not get a subcontractor from Upper Austria from us, but the team from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we have no branch in the country. We leave Munich aside: the shorter route runs via the A9 to just before Hof, then via the A93 right across the Upper Palatinate to Regensburg and on the A3 down the Danube to Passau. On the Inn near Suben the Innkreis Autobahn begins, which, coming from the north, merges directly into the Welser Autobahn A25 at the Wels junction. At the survey in Berlin we estimate the cubic metres, furniture assembly and access at your Wels address – the result is a written fixed price.
A good 9.4 hours of pure driving time, around 11 hrs with the mandatory breaks: for a single driver who has also helped with loading in Berlin beforehand, that cannot be done in one day under EU Regulation 561/2006. We therefore send two drivers taking turns or stay overnight on the way; which solution is cheaper, you see side by side in the quote. Liability is under the HGB, specifically § 451e at €620 per cubic metre; optional additional insurance can be arranged on request. Whether a family flat in the Neustadt, an office near the exhibition grounds or just a sofa – this procedure also applies on the way from Wels back to Berlin.

Your price for Wels

Long-Distance Move

No-Parking Zone

Moabit ↔ Wels without reloading
The same people pack, drive and carry
It is around 702 kilometres to Wels; the border lies on the Inn between Passau and Suben. Within the single market, household goods need no declaration there; more demanding are the driving-time rules, two toll systems and one parking restriction each in Berlin and on the Traun. We start in Moabit (Stromstraße 21), and the lorry is not reloaded on the way – whoever closes the boxes at your home also opens them again in Wels. After the survey you get the fixed price in writing; liability is under the HGB, and higher cover can be booked. A piano, kitchen assembly or a few weeks of storage can be added on request, also on the way back from Upper Austria to Berlin.

Planning
Berlin ↔ Wels
For the move to Wels we coordinate with you: the stopping place outside the Berlin flat via the district office and at the Wels address via the city, dismantling and assembly of the kitchen and wall unit, transport of a piano or aquarium, storage in case the flat on the Traun is not yet free, and the question of two drivers or an overnight stay. After that, in Austria: register your residence within three days of moving in, with the registration form (Meldezettel) at the municipal office (Magistrat). Anyone returning from Wels to Berlin deregisters there and has two weeks in Berlin for the registration office (Bürgeramt).

Wels: statutory city on the Traun, the second-largest city in Upper Austria
Wels lies in the Hausruckviertel on the left bank of the Traun, in the middle of the flat Welser Heide. After Linz it is the second-largest city in Upper Austria and, as a statutory city (Statutarstadt), also its own district administration; it is known as a trade-fair and industrial location and as a transport hub. The West Autobahn A1, the Welser Autobahn A25 and the Innkreis Autobahn A8 form a ring around the city. Anyone moving from Berlin to Wels stays within the EU single market; furniture and household goods cross the border without forms. For us something else counts: whether the lorry can stop at your building, how many flights of stairs there are and whether a lift is available – that is part of the survey.
We drive the move from Wels to Berlin in the same way: loading on the Traun, back via the Innkreis Autobahn, Passau, Regensburg and Hof, unloading and assembly in Berlin. What determines the price is the volume, floors, assembly and the roughly 702 kilometres, not the direction. We take care of parking restrictions at both addresses; if the Berlin flat has not been handed over yet, we provide storage.
The route: Upper Franconia, Upper Palatinate, Inn
In the morning we load in Berlin and take the A9 via the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin Ring. Around 250 kilometres later we leave it just before Hof and switch via a 13 km stretch of the A72 to the Hochfranken interchange. There the A93 begins: 177 km through Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate, past Weiden to the Regensburg interchange. We continue on the A3, 137 km along the Danube to Passau and the Inn; beyond the bridge near Suben lies Austria. The Innkreis Autobahn (A8) runs 61 km through the Innviertel to the Wels junction, where it merges into the A25. Altogether around 702 km, approx. 11 hrs with breaks.
Heavy lorries in Germany drive at no more than 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel at the latest a 45-minute break is due. Because the whole route plus loading does not fit into one driver's shift, two drivers take turns at the wheel, or we stop for a night and deliver in Wels the next morning. In the opposite direction the day starts on the Traun and ends at your Berlin address.
Ledererturm, Stadtplatz, districts: arriving in Wels
The landmark of Wels is the Ledererturm on the Stadtplatz, parts of which have been a pedestrian zone since around 2000; the Mühlbach with its many small bridges runs through the city. Emperor Maximilian I died in Wels Castle in 1519. The city is divided into nine districts, including Innere Stadt, Neustadt, Vogelweide, Pernau, Lichtenegg and Puchberg. For addresses around the pedestrian zone we clarify access times and carrying distances particularly early. After moving in you register your residence within three days at the municipal office; the Meldezettel is also signed by whoever provides you with the flat, and you present an ID document – with ID Austria it can be done online.
If you later move back to Berlin, you deregister in Wels within three days before or after moving out, and register at the Berlin Bürgeramt within two weeks. Search in Berlin in good time; if the new flat is not yet free, your goods stay with us in storage until the handover. We apply to the district office for the parking restriction outside the Berlin address.
Price range for the move to Wels
Outbound to Wels or return to Berlin – in the end there is a written fixed price, with no additional charges on the way. As a first ballpark figure these guide prices help:

These points move the price for Wels
The decisive factor is first the volume. For Wels the roughly 702 kilometres come on top, a good 60 of them subject to toll in Austria, plus the choice between two drivers and an overnight stay. Floor, lift, the distances from the lorry to the door and extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone also count. Small quantities become cheaper with a part load.
