Why people move to Magdeburg – and back to Berlin
A move from Berlin to Magdeburg leads to the largest city and state capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Many come for studies or a job at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität or the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, others for work in the state administration or simply for more space on the Elbe. 155 km on the A2: route, Elbe crossing and schedule
From Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to Magdeburg it is around 155 kilometres. The lorry takes the A100 and the AVUS (A115) to the Nuthetal interchange, a stretch of the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Werder interchange and then around 89 km on the A2. Shortly before the city the A2 crosses the Elbe on the Hohenwarthe Elbe bridge; immediately to the north lies the Magdeburg Water Bridge junction (Wasserstraßenkreuz Magdeburg). Whether we leave the motorway before or after it depends on whether your new address is east or west of the Elbe. Lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), so we reckon with approx. 2 hrs of driving time by lorry.
The moving day itself: loading at the old address, the drive on the A2, unloading and assembly at the destination on request. This process is the same in both directions – including the move from Magdeburg back to Berlin. Whether everything can be done in one day with your volume, we determine at the survey.
Arriving on the Elbe – or back in Berlin
Magdeburg has 40 districts. West of the Elbe lie districts such as Stadtfeld Ost and Stadtfeld West, Sudenburg and Buckau, plus the Altstadt and Alte and Neue Neustadt; east of the river lies Cracau, among others, not far from the Rotehornpark on the Werder island. Around Hasselbachplatz, in Otto-von-Guericke-Straße and Hegelstraße there are renovated Gründerzeit buildings with high ceilings; there we measure large furniture and the stairwell beforehand. In the prefabricated housing estates such as Neu Olvenstedt, on the other hand, we mainly ask about the lift and the floor.
Anyone going back from the Elbe to the Spree usually searches in Berlin for longer than expected – so we set the moving day according to your key handover, with interim storage if necessary. Outside the new Berlin building there is hardly any space without a loading zone; we file the application with the district office.

First comes the volume, then the distance of around 155 km on the A2 – it is short enough that one day is usually enough. After that, the floor and lift, the side of the Elbe of the new address, furniture assembly and the loading zone count. For just a few items a part load saves money.
