A move from Berlin to Halle (Saale) is often about studying: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, founded in 1694 as the University of Halle, is one of the oldest universities in the country; there is also the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design. With around 226,000 inhabitants, Halle is the second-largest city in Saxony-Anhalt, and the navigable Saale flows right through the city. Families and working people here often look for more space than in central Berlin.
The move from Halle (Saale) to Berlin is just as popular: many graduates are drawn to the capital after their studies because the job market is broader and the cultural scene bigger. From Stromstraße 21 to Halle (Saale) it is around 170 kilometres. Via the A100 and the AVUS (A115), the route goes onto the southern Berlin Ring (A10), at the Potsdam junction onto the A9 and around 102 km towards Leipzig – across the Elbe bridge near Vockerode and the Mulde near Dessau to the Halle (Saale) exit. From there the B 100 leads into the city. Lorries over 3.5 t drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway; that gives us approx. 2.5 hrs of driving time, and no mandatory break is required.
On moving day we load in Berlin or Halle in the morning, secure furniture and boxes and set off. At the destination we unload and, on request, assemble the furniture, so you are in your new flat by the evening. We run the move from Halle (Saale) to Berlin in exactly the same way, via the B 100 and A9 in the opposite direction.
Arriving in Halle (Saale) – and the way back to Berlin
Halle is divided into five urban districts. The Paulusviertel around St Paul's Church in the Nord district was built from around 1900 with houses in historicist and Art Nouveau style; there are also neighbourhoods such as Giebichenstein and Kröllwitz. Built quite differently are Silberhöhe in the south – prefabricated blocks from 1979 – and Halle-Neustadt, a separate town from 1967 to 1990. For the move, we check the stairwell, lift and parking space in advance.
When moving back to Berlin, you can expect a tighter housing market, but in return a wide choice of districts from Prenzlauer Berg to Neukölln and Spandau. We apply for the parking restriction zone outside the new address at the district office; registration in Berlin is due within two weeks.

Paulusviertel period building or Neustadt lift: price factors
Cubic metres determine the price most. On top of that come the 170 km on the A9 (from €4/km) and the situation at the destination: an Art Nouveau house in the Paulusviertel without a lift needs more carrying time than a new building with one. Furniture assembly and a parking zone are added; if you take little with you, a part load is cheaper.
