Moving to Halle (Saale): Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Halle (Saale)
Moving to Halle (Saale): city on the Saale between old buildings and Neustadt
Planning from Berlin
A move to Halle (Saale) takes you to the second-largest city in Saxony-Anhalt, which together with Leipzig forms a conurbation of over a million people. Halle was not extensively destroyed in the Second World War – so there are correspondingly many old buildings, for example in the Paulusviertel or in Giebichenstein. Halle-Neustadt is quite different: this new housing estate was a town in its own right from 1967 to 1990. For your private move we therefore clarify in advance whether a stairwell without a lift or a tower block with a lift awaits you.
The route is easy to plan: around 170 km, mostly via the A9, about 2.5 hours by lorry including a break. We load in Berlin, drive to Halle (Saale) and reassemble everything there – in one day, depending on the volume. In Halle (Saale) you register within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG); your landlord issues the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). You receive the fixed price after the survey; background information on the route can be found under Moving Berlin – Halle (Saale).

Moving to Halle (Saale): arrange a survey
170 km, one contact person, one fixed price
For your move to Halle (Saale), one call on 01625978461 is enough: we survey your flat by video or on site, ask about the floor and access at the destination and calculate the 170 km route. You then receive a written fixed price in which the parking restriction, assembly or storage are listed as separate items.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How your move to Halle (Saale) works with us
170 km, one team, one fixed price
Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no base in Halle (Saale) itself. That makes us plan all the more precisely beforehand: floor, lift, walking route and parking space, for example for a Gründerzeit period building in the Paulusviertel or a prefabricated block in Halle-Neustadt. Whether and how a parking restriction is set up in front of the new address is something we clarify according to the requirements of the city of Halle (Saale). After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details of the private move can be found here.

Moving
& transport from one provider
A move to Halle (Saale) raises many questions: which borough suits you, where do you register, do you need a residents' parking permit and how does bulky waste collection work? This guide presents the five boroughs Mitte, Nord, Ost, Süd and West and sums up what the city says about its citizens' service, residents' parking and bulky waste. On top of that come the differences between Gründerzeit period buildings and Halle-Neustadt and the journey of around 170 km via the A9. That way you are prepared before the first box is packed.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Halle (Saale)
Boroughs and districts of Halle (Saale)
Halle is divided into five boroughs: Mitte, Nord, Ost, Süd and West. According to the city, these contain 34 districts, of which Trotha, Ammendorf, Neustadt and Lettin are further subdivided into quarters. Many districts were once separate places: Giebichenstein, Trotha and Kröllwitz became part of the city in 1900, Ammendorf in 1950.
Close to the city centre are Gründerzeit quarters such as the Paulusviertel and Giebichenstein – often four or five storeys without a lift. In the west, Halle-Neustadt with its housing blocks and tower blocks shapes the picture; on the outskirts lie former villages such as Dölau, Lettin or Reideburg, which were incorporated in 1950. For the move, the specific address is therefore what counts: we clarify floor, lift and parking space during the survey. Our private move service adapts to it.
University, Leopoldina and the Francke Foundations
Halle is a centre of science: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is one of the oldest universities in the country, joined by the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design and the Protestant University of Church Music. The city is home to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the state administration office and the German Federal Cultural Foundation. We do not quote specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
Culturally, the city is shaped by the Francke Foundations, founded in 1698, Handel's birthplace and the State Museum of Prehistory with the Nebra Sky Disc. If you are moving in at the start of the semester at the university, fix the moving day early so that registration and, if needed, a residents' parking permit fit into the first two weeks. Long routes from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
Your move – our prices
No matter how big your flat is, we have the right rate: 1-room flats from €344, 2-room flats from €594, 3-room flats from €909 and 4-room flats from €1,299. Houses and villas are calculated separately – you always receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves a price from €4.15/km applies. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away to clarify all the details.
How your moving price is made up
Besides the volume of the furniture to be transported, the distance plays a major role – here we calculate from €4.15/km. The floor, lift and a possible parking restriction zone also feed into the calculation. Additional services such as furniture assembly or part loads can be booked as options.

Registration, citizens' service and residents' parking in Halle (Saale)
If you move to Halle (Saale), you must register within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 of the Federal Registration Act, BMG). The city of Halle (Saale) points out that registering or changing a residence can be done online, so a personal visit is not necessary in every case. If you need an appointment, you book it via the city's online appointment system, which can be booked separately for each of the three locations.
- Citizens' service at Am Marktplatz 1 (06108 Halle), with online appointment booking.
- Citizens' service at Am Stadion 6 and Am Reileck; according to the city, only card payment is possible at Am Reileck.
- Citizens' hotline 115 for general questions about administrative services.
For car owners, the residents' parking permit is important: the city writes that in some parts of the city a residents' parking permit is needed for residents to park. It can be applied for online. Before the move, check whether your new street is in such an area.
A parking restriction for the removal van is ordered by the city's road traffic authority. You can find out there which deadlines and fees apply; we recommend submitting the application several weeks before the moving date so that the signs are in place in time. How we plan this with you is explained under Parking restriction zone.
Halle's boroughs and bulky waste collection
According to the city, Halle (Saale) is divided into five boroughs (Mitte, Nord, Ost, Süd and West) and 34 districts. Four larger districts, namely Trotha, Ammendorf, Neustadt and Lettin, are further subdivided into a total of 12 quarters. In addition, there are area names for 24 urban neighbourhoods. The city's 2025 district catalogue (Stadtteilkatalog) provides statistical information on all districts and quarters, which can help when choosing where to live.
For clearing out before the move, it is worth looking at the bulky waste collection of the local waste disposal company (website hws-halle.de). According to the company, bulky waste from private households is collected free of charge once a year, up to two cubic metres per person living in the household. You request the collection via its online form. The company also collects large or heavy old electrical appliances from private households free of charge, such as fridges and large household appliances; these are also booked online. The website gives no information on lead time, so book the collection early.
On moving day, also allow extra time for stairwells and access, and check the parking space on site. Read more about the city on our page Moving company Halle (Saale) and in the guide for newcomers.
