Moving from Berlin to Dortmund: 493 km to the Hellweg

Moving company Berlin
To Westphalia's largest city: your move to Dortmund
All the way to the Ruhr
A move from Berlin to Dortmund is one of the longer routes on the A2: from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit it is around 493 km – via the Berlin ring road to the Werder interchange, then past Magdeburg, Hanover, Bielefeld and Hamm, over the Kamener Kreuz to the Dortmund-Nordost junction. You receive the fixed price from Beste Umzug Unternehmen after the survey; as a guide we quote from €2,020, in both directions. Whether you are moving to the Ruhr or from there back to the capital – we drive both ways with the same process.
We take care of the whole process: survey, packing, dismantling in Berlin, assembly in Dortmund – and storage if the new flat is still occupied. On the long A2 drive, driving time sets the pace: a good six and a half hours at the wheel means a mandatory 45-minute break (EU Regulation 561/2006), approx. 7.5 hrs in total. Whether we unload on the same day after loading – then with two drivers – or the morning after is settled after the survey.

We split a good six and a half hours of pure driving time on the A2 with the mandatory break. During the survey we look at the staircase, access and stopping place at both ends and calculate the fixed price from that, which is calculated in the same way for the opposite direction. Why people move to Dortmund – and back to Berlin
A move from Berlin to Dortmund is often about a new job or studies – TU Dortmund is one of several universities in the city. With around 600,000 inhabitants, Dortmund is the largest city in the Ruhr by area and population and the most populous in Westphalia. Anyone coming from Berlin will find twelve districts from Innenstadt-West to Mengede, Lake Phoenix in Hörde on the former Phoenix-Ost steelworks site and, in Signal Iduna Park, the largest football stadium in Germany.
On a return move from Dortmund to Berlin, it is often the capital's job market, ministries and authorities, a university place or family and friends that draw people back. We handle the move in both directions with the same process and a fixed price after a survey – whether it is from Berlin to Dortmund or back.
The route: 493 km on the A2 to Dortmund-Nordost
The roughly 493 kilometres between Moabit and Dortmund lead via the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Werder interchange and from there almost entirely along the A2: past Magdeburg, Hanover, Bielefeld and Hamm, over the Kamener Kreuz, where the A1 crosses, and past Kamen/Bergkamen and Lünen-Süd to the Dortmund-Nordost junction. The last kilometres run through the city. With the mandatory 45-minute break after four and a half hours of driving time, we calculate approx. 7.5 hrs driving time – excluding loading and unloading.
On moving day we first load in Berlin or Dortmund, secure furniture and boxes for the long route and then drive via the A2. After arrival we unload and assemble the furniture on request. Because the drive alone takes up most of the day, we decide during the survey whether to unload on the same day or the next morning.
Twelve districts: arriving in Dortmund – or in Berlin
Dortmund has twelve districts: Innenstadt-West, Innenstadt-Nord, Innenstadt-Ost, Eving, Scharnhorst, Brackel, Aplerbeck, Hörde, Hombruch, Lütgendortmund, Huckarde and Mengede. The Kreuzviertel, named after the Heilig-Kreuz church, is a late-19th-century quarter with around 10,000 residents; Hörde is home to Lake Phoenix, opened to the public in 2011. Dortmund's port at the start of the Dortmund-Ems Canal is regarded as the largest canal port in Europe. In densely built streets we check in advance where the lorry can stop.
On a return move to Berlin, many move to districts such as Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Neukölln and have to prepare for a tight housing market there. We apply for the parking restriction zone at the Berlin destination at the district office (Bezirksamt), and we plan moving day around your key handover.
