Moving Berlin – Duisburg: the A2 to its end then over the Berliner Brücke

Moving company Berlin
From the Spree to the mouth of the Ruhr: moving to Duisburg
The A2 from start to finish
Anyone moving from Berlin to Duisburg drives the A2 along its entire length: it begins at the Werder interchange on the Berlin ring road and ends at the Oberhausen interchange, a few kilometres before Duisburg. From our base at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit it is around 547 kilometres to the city where the Ruhr flows into the Rhine. We dismantle your furniture in Berlin and reassemble it in Duisburg, pack crockery and electronics for the long motorway drive and apply for the parking restriction zones at both addresses. That way your move Berlin Duisburg becomes a day you can plan rather than a nail-biter.
Whether port logistics in Ruhrort, the university campus or family in Rheinhausen: we quote the fixed price after a free survey, in person or by video. The drive takes approx. 8 hrs lorry driving time with a mandatory break; team size and vehicle size depend on your volume. Liability is under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of loading space, and on request we provide additional cover for art and antiques. The return move from Duisburg to Berlin runs east along the same A2.

From Moabit to the Rhine and Ruhr
From Moabit to the mouth of the Ruhr
We are a Berlin moving company based in Moabit and drive your move right to the front door in Duisburg. We are not based in Duisburg – that is why we clarify access, floor, lift and stopping place at your new address in advance during the survey, based on your information and photos. If the flat is on the left bank of the Rhine, for example in Rheinhausen or Homberg, we factor in the extra Rhine crossing straight away. The fixed price is set after the survey, and liability is governed by the HGB. We plan the move there and the return move to Berlin with the same care.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Duisburg
A move of around 547 kilometres begins weeks before moving day: with giving notice in Berlin, the survey and a schedule that honestly includes driving time and the break. Then come the parking restriction zones at both addresses, a furniture lift for high floors without a lift and securing the piano, art or glass. A clearance beforehand reduces the volume and thus the price. If the new flat is not yet free, storage bridges the time – also on the return move to Berlin. For students and small households a part-load is another option.

Port city, A2, the way back
Why Duisburg? Port, university and Rhine location
Duisburg lies where the Ruhr flows into the Rhine and, with around 500,000 inhabitants, is one of the large cities of North Rhine-Westphalia. The ports in Duisburg-Ruhrort are regarded as the largest inland port in the world – and there are correspondingly many jobs in logistics and trade. Others move here to study at the University of Duisburg-Essen or because their partner or family lives and works in the Ruhr. For your move from Berlin to Duisburg we take care of packing, transport, furniture assembly and, on request, the final cleaning of the old flat.
The return move from Duisburg to Berlin often follows the next career step or family. As a Berlin company we know the old buildings with side wings and rear courtyards in Moabit, Wedding or Neukölln from everyday work and adapt the vehicle size, carrying distances and schedule to your new Berlin address. The route is the same – just in the opposite direction.
The route: A2 to the Oberhausen interchange, then the A59
From Stromstraße 21 we take the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin ring road (A10) to the Werder interchange. That is where the A2 begins – and on the way to Duisburg we drive it to its end: past Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld, over the Kamener Kreuz and Dortmund to the Oberhausen interchange. The last kilometres lead briefly via the A3 and A42 to the Duisburg-Nord interchange and then onto the A59, which runs through the city as a north–south road. For addresses in the city centre it crosses the port, the Ruhr and the Rhine-Herne Canal on the Berliner Brücke. In total it is around 547 kilometres.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO); after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006). That gives approx. 8 hrs lorry driving time. Whether loading, the drive and unloading take place in one day with two drivers or spread over two days is decided during the survey. The return move from Duisburg to Berlin runs back along the same route.
Right or left of the Rhine: arriving in Duisburg
Duisburg is divided into seven boroughs: Walsum, Hamborn, Meiderich/Beeck, Homberg/Ruhrort/Baerl, Mitte, Rheinhausen and Süd. The city centre and most of the city lie on the right bank of the Rhine; Rheinhausen and large parts of Homberg, Ruhrort and Baerl lie on the left. For these addresses a Rhine bridge is added, which we take into account in the schedule. Former industrial sites such as the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord or the converted inner harbour show how much the city has changed. We come from Berlin and drive right to your door – we apply for the parking restriction in front of the building in advance.
On a return move to Berlin the destination is often an old building with a narrow staircase and rear courtyard. Buildings like these are everyday work for us: we plan carrying distances, furniture lift and the parking restriction via the responsible district office so that unloading goes smoothly. We view your new address in Berlin beforehand if needed.
Guide prices and fixed price for Duisburg
Whether a job at the port or studies: the following guide prices help with initial planning, whether you are heading to Duisburg or from Duisburg back to Berlin:
| Size | Volume (m³) | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1 room | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2 rooms | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3 rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4 rooms | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House | from 60 m³ | individual |
We calculate the drive itself – around 547 km, almost all on the A2 – with a guide price from €2,260. You receive the fixed price after a free survey of your flat; floor, lift and extras such as packing are then listed individually in the quote.
Right bank or left bank: price factors in Duisburg
First the volume counts, then the route of around 547 km. In Duisburg the side of the Rhine also plays a part: Rheinhausen and Homberg lie on the left bank, reached via a Rhine bridge. Floor, lift, furniture assembly and parking restriction are added; smaller quantities become cheaper by part-load.
