Moving from Berlin to Wuppertal: 525 km to the valley of the suspension railway

Moving company Berlin
Your move Berlin – Wuppertal into the Bergisches Land
Into the Bergisches Land
We are a Berlin moving company based at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit and take families, students and companies around 525 km into the Bergisches Land. Unlike most cities in the Ruhr, we leave the A2 as early as the Kamen interchange and drive via the A1 past Hagen to Wuppertal. The city lies in a valley with steep slopes; that is why at the survey we clarify exactly how far it is from the parking space to the door. Furniture assembly, piano transport and packing come from a single source; for damage we are liable under the HGB – more cover on request.
The fixed price is set after a free survey, in person or via video call. The guide price from €2,150 gives an orientation; volume, floors and extras are added, but no fees after arrival. We look at your Wuppertal address in advance using photos and details – slope, stairs, access, parking rules – so that the move to Wuppertal, like the way back to Berlin, stays predictable.

A Berlin team for Wuppertal's hillside locations
From the Spree to the Wupper and back
Our moving company comes from Berlin-Moabit and drives with its own team right up to your door in Wuppertal. Wuppertal is considered the German city with the most public stairways – at some addresses the carrying distance is longer than in Berlin, and we plan for that at the survey. The fixed price is not increased afterwards if there are traffic jams on the A2 or A1. Your goods are covered under the HGB, and we apply for parking restriction zones in both cities.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Wuppertal
With a move Berlin Wuppertal, the topography comes on top of the long journey: the city ranges from 101 m on the Wupper near Müngsten to 350 m at Lichtscheid. We therefore clarify access, stairs and the parking space in advance, dismantle and reassemble furniture, pack delicate items such as a piano or art and apply for parking restriction zones at both addresses. Storage, clearance of the old flat and final cleaning are available on request. A clearance beforehand also reduces the volume and therefore the costs.

Studies, work, family: reasons for Berlin – Wuppertal
A move from Berlin to Wuppertal often has a specific reason: a new job in the largest city of the Bergisches Land, studies at the University of Wuppertal (Bergische Universität Wuppertal) or family in the region. Wuppertal only came into being in 1929, when Elberfeld, Barmen, Ronsdorf, Cronenberg and Vohwinkel were merged; the city has carried its current name since 1930. We handle the logistics from packing in Berlin to assembly in Wuppertal.
The return move from Wuppertal to Berlin often follows a new job in the capital, the end of studies or family reasons. The same planning applies in this direction: a survey of the Wuppertal flat, a separate fixed price, parking restrictions at both addresses and liability under the HGB.
The route: A2 to Kamen, A1 via Hagen, A46 into the city
After loading in Berlin, the route runs via the A100, A115 and the Berlin ring road to the Werder interchange and on the A2 via Magdeburg, Hanover and Bielefeld to the Kamen interchange. There we switch to the A1, which leads via the Westhofen interchange and past Hagen for around 45 km to the Wuppertal-Nord junction. We drive the last few kilometres on the A46, which crosses Wuppertal lengthwise, with exits such as Oberbarmen, Wichlinghausen, Barmen and Elberfeld. Altogether it is around 525 km.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at a maximum of 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO); after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006). This results in approx. 8 hrs by lorry. Whether loading, the journey and unloading take place in one day with two drivers or are spread over two days, we decide at the survey. The return move to Berlin runs on the same route in the opposite direction.
Wuppertal: ten city districts in the valley – and back to Berlin
Since 1979 Wuppertal has been divided into ten city districts, including Elberfeld, Barmen, Vohwinkel, Cronenberg and Ronsdorf. The city stretches a long way through the valley of the Wupper, and many residential streets lie on the slopes above it. Since 1901 the suspension railway (Schwebebahn) has run for around thirteen kilometres with 20 stations from Vohwinkel to Oberbarmen – it does not carry removal goods, of course, but it shows how the city follows the river. We come from Berlin and drive to the door in every city district; we clarify the parking space and carrying distances in advance.
If you are making the journey the other way round, start your flat search early for the return move to Berlin; the Berlin rent index (Mietspiegel) provides current figures. We fix the moving date as soon as the tenancy agreement is in place. Berlin period buildings with a rear courtyard and side wing are part of our everyday work – we plan the unloading accordingly.
Guide prices for Berlin – Wuppertal
Tom Tykwer calls his home town the “San Francisco of Germany” – we factor in stairs and slopes honestly. These guide prices apply to Berlin → Wuppertal and to the return move to Berlin:
| Flat | Load volume (approx.) | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| small apartment | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| two rooms, kitchen, bathroom | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| three rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| four rooms | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| house on a hillside | from 60 m³ | quote after a survey |
For the roughly 525 km via the A2, A1 and A46 we quote a guide price from €2,150. The fixed price is contained in the written quote after the free survey – including the carrying distances in Elberfeld, Barmen or Ronsdorf.
What determines the price of your move to Wuppertal
The decisive factor is the volume. We set the distance of around 525 km from €4/km. In Wuppertal the way from the parking space to the door is often added – over stairs or up a steep street on the hillside. Floor, lift, a parking restriction zone and extras such as furniture assembly also count. For single items, a part load pays off.
