Into the French-speaking Jura: moving Berlin ↔ Delsberg
Move without stress
Delsberg, in French Delémont, is the capital of the canton of Jura – and thus the French-speaking end of a route that begins in Berlin-Moabit. A move from Berlin to Delsberg covers around 906 kilometres and crosses the Swiss customs border: your household goods are declared as removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) with form 18.44 and an inventory list. As Beste Umzug Unternehmen we carry out a survey beforehand, set the fixed price in writing and, on request, take care of packing, furniture assembly and the parking restriction in Berlin.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive with the same team right to your door in Delsberg – or, for the return move from Delsberg to Berlin, in the opposite direction. Approx. 13.5 hrs of lorry driving time including breaks is more than the nine hours of daily driving time under EU Regulation 561/2006, so two drivers drive or we stay overnight before the border. In Switzerland, lorries over 3.5 t may not drive at night from 10 pm to 5 am, and removal goods are cleared on working days. Liability is under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre), and higher cover is possible.

Berlin ↔ Jura: frequently asked questions
Into Switzerland's youngest canton: customs and language
Delsberg, in French Delémont, has been the capital of the canton of Jura since the canton was founded in 1979 and, with just under 13,000 inhabitants, is its largest municipality; in the 2000 census around 84% named French as their main language. Anyone moving from Berlin to Delsberg leaves the EU customs union with their household goods. Whatever you have been using for at least six months and will continue to use in the Jura may enter free of charges as removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) – declared with the signed form 18.44, a list of items and proof of the new residence such as a tenancy or employment contract. With the municipality and landlord you will usually speak French; the customs form is also available in German. We take care of packing, driving and assembly.
Anyone moving back from Delsberg to Berlin declares the export with a list and both addresses at the Swiss customs office; in Germany the removal goods are declared to customs and remain free of charges if you have lived outside the EU for at least twelve months. For this direction too, we write a fixed price after the survey, and liability is under the HGB.
Via Weil am Rhein, Hagnau and Aesch into the Birs valley
Once the lorry is loaded in Berlin, the A9 leads to the Hermsdorf interchange, then the A4 past Erfurt and Eisenach and, from the Kirchheim interchange, the A5 via Frankfurt, Karlsruhe and Freiburg to Weil am Rhein. Beyond the border we take the Swiss A2 through Basel to the Hagnau junction and the A18 through the Birs valley towards Aesch; for the last kilometres, main road 18 (Hauptstrasse 18) leads through the Laufental to Delsberg. Around 906 km in total, approx. 13.5 hrs of lorry driving time including breaks.
Lorries over 3.5 t drive at most 80 km/h on German motorways (§ 18 para. 5 StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory. One day's driving time is not enough, so two drivers drive or we stay overnight before Basel. The last kilometres are not motorway: main road 18 follows the Birs through the Laufental into the Delémont basin. The way back to Berlin follows the same route.
Prince-bishops' old town, station quarter: arriving in Delémont
Delsberg lies around 28 km south-west of Basel in the Delémont basin, on the Sorne shortly before it flows into the Birs. The town is mentioned as early as 737, has had town rights since 1289, and for a long time its castle was the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Basel. The old town has kept its medieval layout with figure fountains from the 16th century; below it, the station quarter grew up on the Basel–Biel line; in 2006 the town received the Wakker Prize for its urban renewal. After moving in, you register with the contrôle des habitants within 14 days, as required by the Jura law on residents' registration. For the lorry, access, parking space and floor at your address are what count.
If you are going back to Berlin, you deregister in Delsberg and, on the Spree, register at the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks – with your ID and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). We apply for the parking restriction signs in front of the Berlin building at the district office's road traffic authority; they are put up 72 hours beforehand. We set the loading day in Delémont around your flat handover.

Which points change the price for Delsberg
First comes the load in cubic metres. For the Jura, the good 906 km, the heavy vehicle charge on the Swiss kilometres, the customs declaration and two drivers or an overnight stop are added. In Delémont itself, floor, lift and whether the lorry can get close enough to the door in the old town are decisive. Optional: furniture assembly, parking restriction, cheaper by part load.
