Moving to Delémont: your new home in the Jura

Tips and deadlines

Unsere Firma handles moves from Berlin to Delémont: survey, fixed price, packing and the journey from a single source.

Delémont (German: Delsberg) is the capital of the canton of Jura and lies in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The old town (Vieille Ville), with its Hôtel de Ville, fountains and narrow lanes, shapes the townscape; around it lie residential quarters such as Gros-Seuc and newer developments near La Communance. Many newcomers commute to Basel, which can be reached by train in around 40 minutes. If you are coming from Germany, you also need to plan customs, registration and health insurance – this guide explains the steps.

We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 906 km via the A9, A4 and A5 to Basel, then via the A2 and A18 to Delémont; by lorry that is roughly thirteen and a half hours including breaks, so with two drivers or an overnight stop. Your household goods are declared at the border as household removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) with form 18.44. We quote the fixed price after the survey, with the LSVA (heavy vehicle charge) and customs clearance listed in it. The route in detail: Moving Berlin – Delémont.

FROM BERLIN

What we take care of when you move to Delémont

From Berlin to the Vieille Ville

We have no branch in Switzerland; instead we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and parking space in advance – whether it is a narrow lane in the Vieille Ville, a flat in Gros-Seuc or a new build near La Communance. We put the inventory list for customs together with you during the survey; you sign form 18.44 yourself. We quote the fixed price after the survey; for your household goods we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible.

Packing service

We pack crockery, books and electronics for the roughly 906 km to the Jura and label every box by its destination room in Delémont – with our packing service.

Office move

Practice, office or law firm: we plan the office move to Delémont so that files, IT and furniture arrive within a fixed time window.

Senior moves

For a senior move to Delémont we pack calmly, take only selected items and set up the bedroom and kitchen first.

Furniture transport

Wardrobe, piano or display cabinet travel padded and strapped, even into a narrow stairwell in Delémont – with furniture transport.
FIXED PRICE AFTER A SURVEY

Our moving services at a glance

With us, clear agreements count – from the survey to the last box in your new flat in Delémont. We set the fixed price down in writing, with route, LSVA and customs clearance as separate items, so that you can concentrate on your fresh start.

01

Loading time and arrival planned

Departure in Berlin and arrival in Delémont are fixed in writing in advance, so that the landlord, property management or caretaker is ready with the keys on moving day.
02

Address checked in advance

Whether a flat in the Vieille Ville or a house in Gros-Seuc: we clarify floor, lift and distance to the lorry before the date, so that nothing comes as a surprise on moving day.
03

Parking zone in good time

The lanes in Delémont's Vieille Ville are narrow – we clarify with the town in advance where the lorry may stop and which parking zone applies, so that carrying distances stay short.
04

Schedule from moving in

We work backwards from your move-in date in Delémont: when the boxes arrive, when packing, loading and driving take place – so no step is left open.
05

Storage to bridge a gap

If your new flat in Delémont is not yet free on moving day, we put your belongings into interim storage in Berlin and deliver them on the new date.
06

First night sorted

We set up beds and kitchen first so that your first night in Delémont is restful; after that there is time to register with the Contrôle des habitants.
A FEW ITEMS

Save with a part load

Small move, small price
For single pieces of furniture, boxes or one room, a part load is often enough: your things share the lorry to Delémont with other jobs on the same route. You only pay for your share of the load space and allow for a flexible delivery day in return – ideal if the exact day does not matter.

Your
move, our craft

Well planned and reliable

A move to Delémont raises many questions: which quarter suits you, how do I register with the Contrôle des habitants, and what applies at customs? Flat hunting in Delémont is usually more relaxed than in Basel or Zurich, and there are new developments near La Communance, for example. You should also plan early for registering children at nursery and school, Swiss health insurance within three months and parking in the Vieille Ville. We tell you what needs doing before and after moving day and plan the journey, customs office and assembly so that you can move in on arrival day.

Planning safely and calmly

Planning early makes things easier: fix the date, schedule the parking restriction, pack boxes in good time. That keeps your private move, senior move or student move to Delémont easy to keep track of.

Furniture, boxes, carrying routes

With a packing service, careful furniture transport and an approved parking restriction, furniture reaches your new home in Delémont without long carrying distances, even in the Vieille Ville or Gros-Seuc.

Costs, timing and special cases

Whether an office move, a business move or just a part load for single pieces of furniture: for Delémont, volume, access to the flat and date are what count – they determine the fixed price after the survey.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about moving to Delémont

Costs, route, districts, parking restrictions and registration – answered briefly.
Demand in Delémont is lower than in Basel, so the housing market is considered more relaxed and rents lower. We do not quote specific amounts because they change quickly – current offers can be found on Swiss property portals and with management companies. For many commuters to Basel, Delémont is therefore an alternative.

Districts and residential areas in Delémont

The old town (Vieille Ville) impresses with its historic buildings, cafés and short distances to the administration and shops – ideal for singles and couples who appreciate an urban feel. If you prefer things quieter, you will find family-friendly residential areas with green spaces, playgrounds and good access to schools in Fontenette and Gros-Seuc.

The Etangs quarter scores with its proximity to recreation areas and the well-known ponds, while Battentin and La Communance are becoming increasingly attractive thanks to new building projects. Rents vary greatly depending on location but are well below the level of Basel or Bern overall, which makes Delémont an attractive option for price-conscious movers.

Employers, quality of life and appeal

As the cantonal capital, Delémont is home to numerous public administration employers, the Hôpital du Jura and various industrial and commercial businesses. The proximity to Basel, around 40 minutes away by train, also opens up access to one of the largest job markets in Switzerland and to institutions such as the University of Basel and the FHNW.

The quality of life in Delémont convinces with its combination of a compact town structure, the Jura landscape on the doorstep and a lively cultural offering, such as the Festival of the Jura People (Fête du peuple jurassien), held every year in Delémont since 1948. Anyone looking for peace, nature and still urban amenities will find Delémont a balanced environment for families and working people alike.

Moving costs explained clearly

Registering in Delémont (Delsberg): deadlines and documents

Anyone moving to Delémont registers with the residents' registration office (Contrôle des habitants) in the town hall, Place de la Liberté 1. According to the town of Delémont, a deadline of 14 days applies on arrival from another municipality or from abroad. A move within the municipality must be reported within 30 days. According to the town, the office is open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 17.00, on Thursdays until 18.00 (telephone +41 32 421 91 00).

Depending on where you come from, the town lists different documents:

  • Swiss nationals: certificate of origin (Heimatschein), family record book if you have children, tenancy agreement, health insurance card and a copy of the household contents/fire insurance.
  • Foreign nationals arriving from abroad: passport or identity card plus an assurance of residence or return guarantee from the foreigners' service.
  • Foreign nationals from another canton: deregister with the old municipality first, plus passport or ID, residence permit, tenancy agreement, health insurance card and a copy of the household contents insurance.

Registration can optionally be done online via eDéménagementCH; according to the town, this costs no more than at the counter. The page does not state specific fees. Our long-distance moving guide for Delémont gives an overview of arriving and the long-distance move. Everyday topics are covered in Living in Delémont.

Parking in the Vieille Ville and household removal goods in Delémont

According to the town, Delémont offers more than 1,900 free parking spaces (around 1,200 in the white zone, 700 in the blue zone) and more than 1,600 paid spaces. For residents of the Vieille Ville there are season tickets, which are managed by the town police. According to the town, tradespeople can obtain parking permits for CHF 10 per day or CHF 40 per week. For questions about stopping and parking options outside your destination address, the Police administrative can be contacted (Place de la Liberté 1, +41 32 421 91 40, [email protected]). The town's page does not show a specific rule for removal vehicles, so we agree the parking spot with you during the survey.

When moving from Germany, Swiss customs is involved. According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), moving your place of residence to Switzerland is the most important condition for importing household removal goods duty-free. The items must have been used by you personally for at least six months. On import you present form 18.44 to the customs office of entry; EU and EFTA nationals can prove the change of residence with, for example, an employment contract, tenancy agreement or deregistration certificate.

Additional information can be found under international move. You can reach the BAZG information centre on +41 58 467 15 15.

Always one step ahead.
