Moving to Hallein: 736 km to the Salzach in the Tennengau

Berlin → Tennengau
Salt town on the Salzach: Hallein from Berlin with one team
Exit 16 in Gries
We load your belongings for Hallein in Berlin, where our only base is located: Stromstraße 21, Moabit. We do not have an office in the Salzburg region; the same crew that packs in Berlin also drives the lorry. The route runs south on the A9, along the A99 ring motorway east of Munich and on the A8 along the Chiemsee to Bad Reichenhall; just beyond the Saalach bridge lies the Walserberg border crossing. Whether a furniture lift or a smaller vehicle is needed, we decide after the survey – only then is the fixed price set.
Pure driving time is around 9.8 hours, with the mandatory breaks about 11.5 hrs: EU Regulation 561/2006 limits daily driving time to nine hours, and with loading in Moabit and unloading on the Salzach this does not fit into one working day for a single driver. For Hallein we therefore use a two-driver team or plan an overnight stop and unload the following day. Liability is governed by § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; if you want more cover, we can arrange optional additional insurance. We calculate the way back from Hallein to Berlin in the same way.

One price all the way to the Salzach
Tolls in two countries, driver changes and parking restrictions are listed in the quote in advance
What the move to Hallein costs is settled after a survey – in your Berlin flat or by video call; arrange a date on 01625978461. The fixed price includes tolls in Germany and Austria, a two-driver team or overnight stop and both parking restrictions. We calculate the way back in exactly the same way.
Quotes available individually, depending on the work involved, availability and the scope of services required.

One team from Moabit to Hallein
Over the Walserberg on the way there, and the same way back
Around 736 kilometres separate Moabit and Hallein; the national border lies between Bad Reichenhall and Salzburg, and household goods cross it within the EU without export papers. The planning work lies more in driving times, toll sections and two parking restrictions in two countries. We set off from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), and whoever packs at your home also carries the boxes back in in Hallein. You receive the fixed price in writing after the survey; we are liable for damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and more cover is available on request. Kitchen, piano or interim storage can be booked as extras – also for the way from the Tennengau back to Berlin.

On the way from Hallein back to Berlin, registration at the registration office (Bürgeramt) follows within two weeks.

What shifts the price

Walserberg, Meldezettel, old town
Hallein: the second-largest town in the state of Salzburg
Hallein lies about 15 kilometres south of the state capital in the Hallein basin, is the district capital of the Tennengau and has around 21,600 inhabitants. The Salzach flows from south to north right through the town; to the west stands the Göll massif of the Berchtesgaden Alps, to the east the Adneter Riedl, to the south the Tennengebirge. Anyone moving from Berlin to Hallein changes country, but not the single market: furniture, books and appliances travel across the border without an export declaration. What we need to know in advance is more practical – whether the lorry can stop outside your house, how many floors there are, whether there is a lift.
If you are moving from Hallein to Berlin, we load on the Salzach and take the same route in reverse: Tauern motorway, Walserberg, A8, A99 and A9 to your Berlin front door. The roughly 736 kilometres, the volume, the floors and the assembly effort determine the price; the direction makes no difference. We apply for parking restrictions at both ends, and if the Berlin flat is still occupied, your household goods wait in our storage.
The route: Saalach bridge, Walserberg, Gries
Loading takes place in Berlin at first light. Via the A100, the AVUS and the Berlin Ring we get onto the A9, which carries us around 520 kilometres to the north of Munich. The A99 ring motorway (27 km) leads east of the city to the A8; on it follow 114 kilometres along the edge of the Alps, partly with tight bends, to Bad Reichenhall. Directly beyond the Saalach bridge lies the Walserberg border crossing. In Austria we drive only a short stretch of the West motorway; at the Salzburg interchange the Tauern motorway branches off, and after 13 km we reach exit 16 Hallein in the Gries district. Altogether that is around 736 km, approx. 11.5 hrs including breaks.
Lorries over 3.5 t are limited to 80 km/h on German motorways (§ 18 (5) StVO); after 4.5 hours at the wheel at the latest, a 45-minute break follows. Because the total route goes beyond one day's shift, two drivers take turns, or we stay overnight and unload in Hallein the next morning. In the opposite direction the day begins on the Salzach and ends in Berlin.
Old town, Pernerinsel, Dürrnberg: arriving and registering
The face of the town is shaped by the old town in the Inn-Salzach architectural style, which has been a listed ensemble since 1978; the Kothbach and Almbach streams flow through it into the Salzach. On the Pernerinsel stands the Old Saltworks, today a venue of the Salzburg Festival, and above the town the Dürrnberg with the salt mine, which ceased extraction in 1986. The town area includes cadastral municipalities such as Gamp, Taxach, Burgfried, Au and Gries. In the old town we check in advance how close the lorry can get to your house. After moving in you have three days to register your residence with the municipality; the Meldezettel needs the signature of your accommodation provider plus an ID document – with ID Austria also online.
If you later go back to Berlin, you deregister in Hallein (from three days before to three days after moving out) and register at the Berlin Bürgeramt within two weeks. For unloading in Berlin we apply for the parking restriction at the district office; if the new flat has not yet been handed over, we store your belongings in the meantime and deliver on the day you get the keys.
What Hallein roughly costs
Whether the way to Hallein or the way back to the Spree: at the end there is a written fixed price that no longer changes en route. These guide values serve as a rough classification:
| Flat size | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
Specifically for the roughly 736 km to the Salzach we set a guide price from €2,580, whichever direction. We list tolls, a two-driver team or an overnight stop separately. Only the price after your free survey is binding.
What the price for Hallein depends on
The volume in cubic metres carries the most weight. For Hallein there are also the 736 kilometres, of which only the last 15 or so are on Austrian motorways, and the question of two drivers or one night. Floor, lift and carrying distances in the old town count as much as extras: furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone. If you take little with you, a part load is cheaper.
