Long-distance move Berlin – Hallein: Route Process & Deadlines

From Berlin to Hallein
Long-distance move to Hallein: 736 km to the Salzach
Tips & costs
A move to Hallein is a long-distance move to another EU country: around 736 km from Berlin via the A9 to Munich, the A99 and the A8 to Salzburg and the last few kilometres on the Austrian Tauern motorway. By lorry, that is about eleven and a half hours including breaks – more than a driver's daily driving time, so we plan two days. There is no customs duty on household goods within the EU; the Austrian lorry driving bans and the short registration deadline are more important. For your long-distance move we clarify the date and parking space in advance.
We start in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), load on the first day and deliver to Hallein on a working day – because, according to the Business Service Portal of the Republic of Austria, lorries over 7.5 t are off the road on Saturdays from 3 pm and on Sundays. On Austrian motorways, vehicles over 3.5 t pay the distance-based GO toll. We quote the fixed price after a survey; we also handle the return route from Hallein to Berlin. The route is described in detail under Moving Berlin – Hallein.

Your move to Hallein: what we do
From Moabit to Hallein
We are a Berlin moving company from Moabit and handle moves to Hallein without having a branch there. That is why we clarify access, floor and carrying distances before moving day – for a flat in the old town just as for a house on the Dürrnberg. The municipality of Hallein has no dedicated online entry on parking restrictions for removals (Übersiedlungen) – so we clarify the parking space for the lorry with the town office (Stadtamt) in advance. You receive a fixed price after a survey; liability is under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. More about the private move.

Common questions
No customs, but a three-day registration deadline
Like Germany, Austria is part of the European Union. For household goods and personal belongings there is therefore no customs declaration and no import duty when moving from Berlin to Hallein. An inventory list still makes sense – for yourself and for liability during transport.
The registration deadline is much stricter than in Germany: you register your main residence with the municipality's registration office within three days of moving in, with the registration form (Meldezettel) and ID; the accommodation provider (Unterkunftgeber) must also sign the Meldezettel. EU citizens staying longer than three months must additionally apply for a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) within four months. In Germany you deregister within two weeks of moving out.
Route, driving time and driving bans to Hallein
From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 736 km to Hallein: via the A9 to Munich, the A99 and the A8 to the border at Salzburg, then a few kilometres on the A10 Tauern motorway. For the lorry we allow about 11.5 hours including breaks. Because this exceeds the daily driving time, we load on the first day and deliver on the second. We do not give flat-rate average prices; you receive the fixed price after the survey.
In Austria, a night-time driving ban and a weekend driving ban apply to lorries over 7.5 t – so we schedule delivery for a working day. Vehicles over 3.5 t pay the GO toll on motorways. We clarify the parking space in front of the new address with you and the Hallein town office before the lorry sets off.

What does the moving price depend on?
How much your move costs depends primarily on the volume of your household goods and the distance to be covered, which is charged from €3.80/km. The floor and whether a lift can be used also play a role. If you need a parking restriction zone, this also has an effect. Furniture assembly and part loads can be booked as options.

More destinations from Berlin-Moabit
We plan moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) for private and business customers – including to other EU countries such as Austria. What counts for cross-border moves is explained under International move; long routes can be found under Long-distance moves. We also plan the route from Hallein back to Berlin with you.
Removal van in Hallein: parking restriction, town office and lorry driving times
If you are moving from Berlin to Hallein, you need a parking space at the destination where the removal lorry can be loaded and unloaded undisturbed. The municipality of Hallein's overview of official procedures lists the registration office, registry office, building authority, town treasury, criminal record certificate and housing office; we cannot find a dedicated entry there on parking restrictions for removals. So clarify the parking space directly with the Hallein town office (Stadtamt), Schöndorferplatz 14, 5400 Hallein, telephone +43 6245 8988 0, email [email protected]. According to the town, public opening hours are Mondays from 8 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm, and Tuesdays to Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon.
Innsbruck and Linz show how Austrian towns handle such cases: both describe an exemption permit under § 45 StVO for parking restrictions, loading zones and driving bans. So in Hallein, expect to submit an application and allow sufficient lead time. The town does not state a deadline or fee online, so we do not give any figures here. More about setting one up can be found under our Parking restriction zone.
For the journey: according to the Republic's Business Service Portal, lorries over 7.5 t may not drive between 10 pm and 5 am daily. The weekend driving ban applies on Saturdays from 3 pm to midnight and on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 pm, likewise for lorries with trailers if the lorry or trailer weighs more than 3.5 t; there are exceptions mainly for local supplies. So schedule the delivery date for a working day. The town publishes road closures and roadworks on its home page, and it is worth taking a look shortly before moving day.
Registration and bulky items in Hallein: registration office and recycling points
After moving in, you have three days in Hallein to register your main residence. The municipality's registration office lists the completed registration form (Meldezettel) and a passport or identity card as the documents required. Important: the accommodation provider (Unterkunftgeber) signs at the bottom left, and a tenancy agreement does not replace this signature; owners who move in themselves sign both fields. Online registration is possible with ID Austria via oesterreich.gv.at. A change of registration within one month is only necessary if a secondary residence becomes the main residence. If you keep your previous main residence and register a secondary residence, you need a separate Meldezettel, which the accommodation provider must also sign. The town does not state any fees on this page.
For waste from your move, Hallein has four recycling collection points: Gamp, Rehhof, Rif and Wirtschaftshof, reachable on +43 6245 8988 300 or, for the Wirtschaftshof, on +43 6245 8988 330. The town's website also announces a section on bulky waste and bulky items with collection, recycling centre, fees and contacts. The town offers the waste calendar for your address as a download. Check opening times and conditions before the move so that cardboard and old furniture are not left behind.
