Halberstadt on the edge of the Harz: 209 km via the A2 A14 and B81

From Moabit to the Gateway to the Harz: your move to Halberstadt
All the way to the edge of the Harz
A long-distance move from Berlin to Halberstadt does not end at the motorway: from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit, the lorry takes the AVUS and the Berlin Ring onto the A2, switches briefly to the A14 at the Magdeburg interchange and covers the last third on the B81. That is around 209 km and approx. 3 hrs by lorry. We pack, dismantle and reassemble – whether a single flat or a family household.
Halberstadt lies on the Holtemme river in the northern Harz foreland and is the county town of the Harz district. During the survey we clarify how the lorry will reach your new address and whether a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) is needed. Our liability is governed by the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of loading space); for valuables we can agree additional cover on request. This makes your long-distance move Berlin Halberstadt easy to plan.
Every move starts with a free survey in which we record the volume of your move – in your Berlin flat or by video. This results in a binding fixed price that does not change even if traffic grinds to a halt on the Berlin Ring, the A2 or around Magdeburg. We pad delicate furniture, electronics and keepsakes for the drive of around three hours. We plan the move from Halberstadt to Berlin following the same process.

Cathedral city of Halberstadt: there and back
Harz foreland instead of the big city: reasons for Halberstadt
A move from Berlin to Halberstadt is often about more living space, being close to the Harz or a new job in Saxony-Anhalt – Halberstadt is the largest town and county town of the Harz district and is called the “Gateway to the Harz” because of its old road links into the mountains. If you like being outdoors, the Spiegelsberge south of the town offer a landscape park with a Bismarck tower and a hunting lodge right on your doorstep. Our team plans the transport from packing in Berlin to assembly in the new flat, with a parking restriction zone at both addresses on request.
A move from Halberstadt to Berlin usually has other reasons: a job in the capital, a university place at a Berlin university or family who already live there. We handle the way back with the same process and the same fixed-price principle – survey, binding quote, one team door to door. We coordinate the date with your key handover in Berlin.
209 km via the A2, A14 and B81: route and process
From Moabit, the lorry takes the A100, the AVUS (A115) and the Berlin Ring (A10) to the Werder junction and then the A2 to the Magdeburg interchange. There it heads south for around 11 km on the A14 to the Magdeburg-Sudenburg exit, where the B81 begins. From Magdeburg, the federal road is initially a four-lane road; along the way it crosses the Bode twice and meets the B245 shortly before Halberstadt. In total it is around 209 km; since lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), we reckon with approx. 3 hrs lorry driving time.
The process: loading in Berlin with protection for furniture and fragile items, the drive via the A2 and B81, unloading and furniture assembly in Halberstadt. For a typical household this usually fits into one day; for large volumes we decide during the survey whether to plan two days. We run the same process in reverse for the move from Halberstadt to Berlin.
Arriving at the edge of the Harz – or back in Berlin
In Halberstadt, St Stephen's Cathedral and the Domplatz shape the town centre, more than 80 per cent of which was destroyed in the air raid of 8 April 1945; surviving half-timbered houses and new buildings therefore often stand close together. In the Burchardi Church, John Cage's organ piece “ASLSP” has been playing since 2001, designed to last 639 years. The town also includes neighbourhoods such as Ströbeck, Langenstein, Sargstedt or Emersleben. In narrow old-town streets we check access and parking space in advance and, if necessary, apply for a parking restriction zone from the responsible road traffic authority.
For a move back to Berlin, it pays to start looking for a flat early; we coordinate the moving date with your key handover, with storage in between if necessary. In Berlin's inner-city districts we apply for the parking restriction zone at the district office so that, after around three hours' drive, the lorry stops right outside the door.

B81 route, old town, floor: price factors for Halberstadt
First, what counts is how many household goods come along. Then the distance: around 209 km, the last third of it on the B81 (from €4/km). At the destination it matters whether the lorry can stop near the Domplatz or in a neighbourhood such as Ströbeck, which floor the flat is on and whether there is a lift. Furniture assembly and a parking zone come on top; small volumes travel more cheaply as a part load.
