Moving from Berlin to Linz (Austria) – and back

Removal company Berlin
Via Prague and České Budějovice: your move Berlin ↔ Linz
All the way to the Danube
We drive from Berlin to Linz – our base is Stromstraße 21 in Moabit; we have no branch in Upper Austria. The route leads via the A13 to Dresden, the A17 to the Czech border and the D8 to Prague. South of Prague we continue via road I/3 and the D3 past Tábor and České Budějovice (Budweis) to the Wullowitz border crossing, then via the Mühlviertel expressway S10 and the Mühlkreis motorway A7 into the city. At the survey we determine volume, lorry size and assembly – this gives the fixed price.
At approx. 8.5 hrs by lorry, including the 45-minute break that EU Regulation 561/2006 requires after four and a half hours of driving, the drive to Linz stays under the daily driving time of nine hours. With loading in Berlin and unloading in Linz it is still a long day – for large flats we therefore load the day before; we decide that at the survey. We are liable for the removal goods under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre); higher cover is possible on request. We apply for the parking restriction zones in Berlin and Linz.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
To Linz and back: moving to the capital of Upper Austria
Anyone moving from Berlin to Linz changes country but stays in the EU: no customs papers are needed for furniture and household goods, but Austria has a registration obligation. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and, after Vienna and Graz, the country's third-largest city; it lies on both banks of the Danube, with Urfahr to the north and the city centre to the south. For our planning, what counts above all is access, a stopping place for the lorry, floor and lift at your new address – we clarify that at the survey.
We drive the return move from Linz to Berlin in just the same way: collection in Linz, the same route via České Budějovice and Prague in the opposite direction, unloading and assembly at your Berlin address. Volume, floors, assembly and the roughly 592 kilometres determine the price, not the direction of travel. We apply for the parking restrictions at both addresses for you.
The route: around 592 km via Prague, České Budějovice and Wullowitz
From Berlin we go via the A100 and A113 onto the A13 (around 151 km to Dresden), briefly along the A4 and then via the A17 (44 km) to the Czech border. The D8 leads to Prague; south of the city we drive via road I/3 and the D3 past Tábor and České Budějovice to the border at Dolní Dvořiště. Beyond the Wullowitz border crossing we continue via the B310 and the Mühlviertel expressway S10 onto the Mühlkreis motorway A7 to Linz. In total it is around 592 km and approx. 8.5 hrs by lorry including the break.
On German motorways lorries over 3.5 t may drive at a maximum of 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after four and a half hours of driving time a 45-minute break is required. The drive stays under the daily driving time of nine hours; with loading and unloading, however, the day gets long, so we decide at the survey whether we load the day before. For the return move from Linz to Berlin everything applies in reverse.
Arriving in Linz: Meldezettel and districts
After moving into Linz you register your residence within three days. For this you need the Meldezettel, signed by the person providing your accommodation, and a travel document; online it works via oesterreich.gv.at with ID Austria or EU Login. Whether you move to Urfahr north of the Danube with the Pöstlingberg, to the city centre around the Hauptplatz, to Kleinmünchen or to the largest district, Ebelsberg, south of the Traun: we check access, parking and carrying distances in advance.
For the return move to Berlin you deregister in Linz within three days before or after moving out and register in Berlin within two weeks at the registration office (Bürgeramt). In Berlin we apply for the parking restriction at the district office of your new address, whether in Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg, and coordinate the unloading date with the flat handover.

What determines the price of the Berlin–Linz move
The biggest factor is the volume. For the Berlin–Linz move the distance (around 592 km) and the lorry tolls in the Czech Republic and Austria also count. Other factors: floor, lift and additional services such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone. With a part load you save even more on small loads.
